Impossible for this app to make you fluent. It's OK to start you off with a new language though. However you need a proper language learning plan such as Refold (Free).

Go to refold.la/ and click on Quickstart and select your Target language. Don't bother with their course unless you really need your hand holding through the process.

    1. Get lots of comprehensible input - So use material that is just above your level. use CEFR language levels to assess your grade. If new you will be at A1.
    2. The material you need to use is videos and books. Listen to as much of your target language as possible. So if your level is A1 then pick videos that are A1 level and also read books which are A1 level.
    3. Refold explains the whole process and has lots of free resources.
    4. Do not study grammar at the start of the process. Remember the way we learn language is through comprehensible input, the reason people study grammar in the past is because if there were no target language speakers they didn't have the videos, books etc as freely available. Grammar is important of course but don't put in massive efforts to learn it. You will pick it up naturally from comprehensible input and also speaking with native speakers / tutors.
    5. Language Reactor which is a Netflix / YouTube viewing browser extension is remarkably good and this is recommended by Refold.
    6. Vocabulary learning, there's various ways to do this Anki is popular but don't get trapped trawling through many cards. Refold don't recommend this afaik but The Goldlist Method is very effective for learning vocabulary.

The Goldlist Method explanation here >

FREE 40 page PDF of the method (I recommend reading it as it is much more in depth than the video) >

There is no one way to learn a language but the wrong way is to say I have a 365 streak on DuoLingo! Because unless you did all of the above then you wasted a lot of time. You don't need apps to learn a language, you can do it all for free. It takes a lot of effort. Languages in the same group as yours will be easier to learn. Languages such as Russian, Arabic, Mandarin etc will be a lot harder and require 1000-2000+ hours to get to B2 level. To get to C1 / C2 which is essentially native speaker fluent requires even more effort. Many people would be happy with B2 despite the limitations.

    Wrong way >

I have a 365 day streak on DuoLingo!

    Right way >

Comprehensible input at just above your level. A Vocabulary retention Method (Anki / Goldlist Method), lastly some grammar study but do not make this the main focus.

Would rather hacksaw off my left leg than give this mob more money. The changes they made last year to the app were horrendous, when almost all my 2 year progress got binned and I was a paying subscriber. There are better ways to learn a language but if this app works for you, go for it.

    It's a useless app

Just a heads up, the code needs to be redeemed on the website as it cannot be redeemed from within the app.

It will ask you to select a plan for when the trial period ends, select whichever and then you can cancel it straightaway. The free month will still be active

Awesome app and I've just completed my 365 day streak but what extra will this give compared to the free version?.

Unrelated to language learning, but I saw news that Duolingo are going to launch a music learning course soon - wonder if that is part of the super subscription level?
    couponchaser's avatar
I'm a Super subscriber and yes; both music and maths courses are included. They're just like any other language course.

    I use Duolingo + Preply + Uni + YouTube & I'm still rubbish!

Look up comprehensible input (CI) method/theory.

You can get unlimited heart (the main benefit that Super Duolingo gives you) for free following the instructions here: reddit.com/r/d…ur/

Any way to claim this without giving them my card details?

This is a great app, currently learning Japanese, however using SUPER I quickly powered up the leagues as you can earn way more XP and stay at the top pretty easily. HOWEVER if you want to complete and take the leagues seriously you will definitely need to pay the monthly subscription after the trial, as this is Definitely pay to win in the long run. I am really happy just using the free nonsuper (although adds are super annoying) but you can still learn a heap, but if you are intending to keep going up leagues and getting to the top you can't compete with other SUPER user's (as they have unlimited gems etc) but a fun app for free.

I'm studying Chinese (130 days) but still can't really have a conversation with a Chinese person or understand a movie. What about you? Are you able to have conversations in Japanese? (edited)

Great little app, I use it daily, got 401 days going. I have a modded app which gives me this feature

Duolingo is good but it only works as part of learning a language.
I learn German 3hrs per week at Uni & use Duolingo to supplement my learning. Duolingo on it’s own - wouldn’t really work!

Yes exactly this, there is no one app solution to learn a language. It needs a number of skills / methods as I detailed in a post earlier in this thread.

Can you stack this code with O2 Priority code?

Someone needs to teach DuoLingo how long a month is.
