Is lamb shoulder better than a lamb leg to roast ?
    bobjst's avatar
Shoulder is fattier and the bone makes it difficult to carve - but the way the fat is layered in the meat means it's very succulent once you've roasted it and melted the fat.
I'd pick shoulder for slow cooking and leg if I wanted it a bit rare.

Stupid question - what does an average whole shoulder weigh?
    Optom's avatar
    Around 1.5-2kg
    Leg is between 2-3kg.

51548751-67AEi.jpgFor those wondering it's around £10 for a whole shoulder and £5 for a half

That tends to happen a lot seems like their systems don't talk to each other.

brilliant. will pick up some as i have bought the sainsburys lamb leg but i don't think it is as nice as shoulder meat as the leg can be a bit chewy.

Good price, thanks, bought 6 legs yesterday from Sainsbury’s but will get some of these too, lovely when cooked slow for 4 hours

I don't eat lamb but you can have a heat for those who do at that price

The one obvious question, Is this halal 😁
    bobjst's avatar
New Zealand lamb is pretty much all halal.
These could be from NZ and could be local, but they'll be labelled so you can pick the New Zealand ones.

An animal’s life should be worth more. Shockingly cheap.

This is only the shoulder. Add all the cuts together and it comes to a lot more.

Don't feel too sad, it had a nice life wandering around green hills. Now it gets to be recycled into yummy protein.

Nabbed one. They were mixed in with the legs. Hidden at the back of the fridge. Was two left on the shelf. Said 11. Pound on the bag but went down to 5 with the club card. The woman double checked it. She thought I was ripping them off somehow.
