Product Details

The MeacoDry Arete® One-18L Dehumidifier & Air Purifier is whisper quiet. At only 40 dB it's more than twice as quiet as the industry standard.

The performance and design of this dehumidifier has been created around the British climate and the British user. Arete dehumidifies most efficiently between 10°C and 20°C, to extract the maximum amount of water from the air, when you need it most. Standard dehumidifiers are created to work most efficiently at 27°C, way above the average temperature of a British household.

Removes Condensation – Efficiently prevents condensation and mould by capturing moisture in a 4.8 litre water tank.

Arete extracts water into an extra-large tank ensuring you wake up to clear windows each morning. The easy to use tank has a cover and carry handle with the option to pour the water away from both the left and right side, making life easy.

Purer Than Ever – Our H13 HEPA filter removes 99.95% of particles from the air for year-round air purification. Perfect for customers with asthma or allergies, the medical grade H13 HEPA filter helps to clean the air in your home, removing smells and VOCs from the air. Arete can be used purely as an air purifier in the summer months when dehumidification is not required.

There are no complicated controls. Arete has been designed so it is easy to use for everyone. One press of a smart humidity button is all you need to set up your dehumidifier and walk away. Arete will do the rest for you: Arete will increase the fan speed if the humidity level rises and change to a quieter mode when the target humidity has almost been reached. There is also a Child Lock to stop big or small fingers from changing the settings!

Arete does not only dry your laundry; it dries your laundry quickly and efficiently whilst monitoring its energy consumption and turns the compressor off when the relative humidity reaches 35%rh to save power. The powerful fan will stay on to make sure your clothes are dry.

The MeacoDry Arete® One-18L Dehumidifier and Air Purifier is suitable for use throughout a 4/5 bedroom house. However, this should not be used in enclosed spaces or rooms that are smaller than 4m².

  • Noise level: 40 dB

I have this in 12L, its my best purchase this year.

My question is, I can't find the Hepa filter online anywhere, Could anyone help to direct me where to buy, if someone bought the filter recently?

They all do the job at the end of the day... Get the cheapest

The 12L Luko one from ebuyer has been good for me so far and I also had a 12L Meaco Arete to compare against - not much difference other than lack of warranty with the Luko and price being about 1/3

Bought this the first time round. It's been great drying clothes and general getting the house to below the 60-65% humidity that it's been sitting at without. I agree that the fan noise is a louder than I would like during the night but it only runs when humdity reaches a certain threshold so works out well. (I have it on a smart plug which switches off at night)

This is the best one! and the thoughtful design touches like the inbuilt handle and 4 wheels on the bottom make all the difference!
    greg666's avatar
Be careful with the smart plug as Meaco doesn’t any firm of external switches. I called up because I wanted to do exactly the same and they advised to switch off on the device only.

I’m tempted. Can anyone confirm how long they actually run for them in a 24hour period if you set it to achieve a certain humidity. I can see the wattage when it’s on. Does it actually run for say 10 hours out of the 24 automatically. I get that there will be many variables but if those that have one could give me an idea that would be great

I have two that are on 24/7. One 20L down stairs which is open plan and one in the kids bedroom that for some reason always had a high humidity and mold growing on some walls The room is above an unheated garage.

The bedroom one is set to 45% humidity and the downstairs one to 50% humidity. They are on constantly, but when they reach the required humidity level they go into a standby mode and then they test the humidity every 30 minutes or so and then come on again if required.

For anyone looking to reduce humity and mould in a house dehumidifers are a must. I have been running them for over a year and I can say with some confidence that they will reuduce dust mites and mold mites.

Are these the ones everyone buzzes over because they're the best and whatnot?
    hkphooey's avatar
I have three including one of these and it just does the same as all my others including a top of the range smart one I control via phone app.
  7. Vijay_Chauhan's avatar
Which one would folks recommend this one or the 20l one priced at £260 from John Lewis for 3 bedroom semi detached ?
    greg666's avatar
I would go for the 20l as the water container is bigger. I also would not go for cheaper brands as many of them have just 1 year warranty. The Meaco Arete has 5 years so there is a difference

The prices of these things have gone through the roof since the cost of living crisis...
People not having their heating on and having to deal with the condensation...
Scandalous it's come to this, bet the dehumidifier companies are rubbing their hands. (edited)

We haven't used our tumble dryer in over a year, soon to be two years.
Even with the heating on before energy price rise we had lots of mould now we have hardly any and meaco does it's job.
  9. dumplingwrestler's avatar
We have one and it's great, but there isn't really much competition as all the others look incredibly ugly. Coming from the far east, I find it very odd that there is so much hype over a particular dehumidifier when we have loads of choice over there and they all look pretty good. It's like getting excited over an iron.

Don't understand why these aren't more common when it's so damp in the uk. Its like they don't know how to make decent and good looking appliances here. (edited)

Returned my 25l unit purchased from buydirect. Had it on the landing area but the level of fan noise was way too much for kids and the misses even with the night mode enabled. However, the laundry mode worked well as others say above.
    pako.pako's avatar
Same here. But I'm going to keep it despite it, as it seems to do a pretty good job
  11. daaave2's avatar
This is ok to dehumidify a normal heated house throughout the year - especially for laundry and stuff. Unfortunately it doesn’t work very well at low temperatures, though.

I’m glad I got mine (same price from Costco earlier in the year) but buying again, I’d get a desiccant one that would dehumidify better between 5-15c.

Putting the heating on just so the dehumidifier can remove the damp in the middle of the British winter is an exercise in burning money.

Just buy a desiccant one if you simply want a dehumidifier to remove damp, year round. (edited)

Welcome to HukD's, congratulations on your 1st deal
  13. BrumGB's avatar
    Congrats on first deal.

We purchased the 25l one before winter and it's been a great investment (overpriced for what it is but that's the state of the dehumidifier market)

Does a great job of drying clothes when you can't put them outside.

Not cheap this... Overkill for a lot, this brand is fleecing vulnerable people who are worried about mould etc due to cost of heating (edited)

The fan noise for this one seems to be a lot higher than the 12L. 40dB to 35dB

It is worth checking that the warranty supplied via a Costco purchase is 5 years for this dehumidifier. On the Meaco website it states 5 years for the Arete range. A link to the Meaco website and dehumidifier range is here: meacodehumidifiers.co.uk/col…asc
Interestingly, the 18L model advertised on Costco is not listed on the Meaco website. The 20L model is £254.95 and don't forget the 4.2% TCB on offer for Meaco directly.
    deanwall's avatar
The manual is linked on the Costco site and states five year warranty with Meaco.

This model is a Costco exclusive hence is not listed on Meaco website.

I think the Meaco 12l Arete is the sweet point.
Its portable so you can easily move
    It around the house.
The 25l Meaco is bulky and heavy,
The 12l is more than sufficient for a 3 bedroom property.
It has a laundry and air purifier which makes it a great machine
    For year round use.

Am I able to purchase this without a Costco card?

Not online but if you can manage to purchase a gift voucher you can use that instore without membership.
Online only membership available for £15 pa.

Yeah, they're all out of stock, same as most places.

It only seems yesterday the fad was to hang containers of water on your radiators to add moisture in the air to counter the drying effect of central heating...now they're selling us machines to take it out!
It makes sense to hold out for the air-con units that will no doubt start appearing in the spring - at least these can both cool in the summer and most also have a dehumidifier mode for the winter.
    greg666's avatar
Yes with the huge downside of running cost but if you are ok with that you can buy a combi device

159.99£ 10l version you can buy directly from meaco with tcb

    Ordered one.

Have messaged Costco on live chat. They've mentioned it's 5Y warranty with themselves, on any dehumidifier including this one (have not checked detailed Costco warranty policy wording myself though). They were not sure about the OEM duration (I have asked the OEM awaiting for reply). Check with Costco on livechat for yourself for peace of mind. They'd give you a reference number.

It looks identical to the appliance direct 20L version with the same fan speed, it'll puzzle me why this only does 18L. Looking at the 20 vs 25L machine, the major difference is the fan speed. Maybe the latter is just enabling more power on the same compressor / etc. Since everything else is the same, I'd pick Costco vs those cowboys at appliance direct. (edited)
