You can get 12 month worldwide for £89.99, which works out better depending on your area of research

I took out a 6 month Premium membership in November and using the above link have extended it to 12 months from today for an extra £7.31.

I took this offer last Jan. Quidco tracked then declined within hours, despite it not involving a code or voucher.

Always worth a try of course.

Can anyone who has this post the link to the offer page they receive please? In the past they've worked for everyone.

Just click the "Get Deal" link above, then sign in and it will be in your shopping cart
I cancelled my subscription a year ago as it was doing my head in, might give it another go.

Sorry to sound a bit dumb, what's the point of a subscription if you just want to look up your ancestry once. What extra things does this have that you want to have a subscription?

Ancestry provides access to a range of resources to enable serious family history researchers to discover their ancestors, often back into the eighteenth century or earlier. I have been involved in family history research since the 1990s, have subscribed to Ancestry since 2003, and am still making discoveries.

Tracing ancestry is not necessarily straightforward, and becomes more challenging the further back you try to go, and Ancestry does not necessarily have all the resources to enable you to do this. However, they are in the business of making money and want to draw in as many subscribers as possible, so try to pretend it is easy. They offer 'hints' to who your ancestors might be, but people who don't really know what they are doing accept these hints without question, with the result that many of the family trees are quite inaccurate, and are then copied and perpetuated by others. Also, depending on where your ancestors were from, Ancestry may not be the best place to start. For example, if your ancestors were Scottish, it would be best to start with the Scotland's People website.

I would always recommend that anyone interested in discovering their ancestry read up about how to carry out family history research before jumping in to Ancestry rather than the other way around. (edited)

I've just told my wife about the billion graves website. It's her that's doing her family tree stuff. Thanks very much again.

findagrave.com has far greater coverage and is a much better user experience than billion graves IMHO.

Worldwide is much, much better for not much extra if you get it on offer.

I can get to the offer and log in (subscription lapsed over a year ago), but when I try to go to payment I get the message "There seems to be a problem with your order. Please try again later or contact Member Services". So I think it's definitely by email invitation only

Good price for a year if you need the features but I already have access to Ancestry library from home for free.
    woodface7's avatar
Is that via an ordinary library membership? My county library service hasn't offered that since covid. Some parts of the country don't even have it on library PCs.

I don't think it's selected accounts only, although the e-mail offer may only have been sent to selected accounts. I did not receive it.

My subscription (which I took out using the same half-price offer at the same time last year) is due to expire on 3 January, and I had set it not to automatically renew, in anticipation of a similar offer becoming available around now. I was able to take advantage of this offer and was given a rebate of a few pence for the remaining days.

However, payment was a bit of a pain. I tried several times using PayPal, but this did not work. I then tried my credit card, but the amount showing up on the authorisation screen was £0.00, so I could not proceed. After leaving it for a while I was finally able to make payment by PayPal. There may be a general problem with the payment system, or it could just have been a temporary blip. (edited)

I think you are correct. It finally worked for me with one of the cards it wouldn't work with this morning!

My sub runs out next week. The link to UK works for me, but the worldwide link posted won't let me check out at that price. Reverts to normal prices.
    GimmeCashback's avatar
I also had this problem, which is probably because clicking the UK link puts a cookie for that deal in the browser's cache. I solved it by logging out of Ancestry, clearing the cookies in my browser and trying again. Alternatively you could try using a different browser.

    Thanks it worked for me

    Hi
Trying to buy the world wide one, mine expires on the 6th Jan and I cancelled before Xmas. It shows me the basket briefly, then asks about if I have an account and if I say yes, it won’t let me log out and pay. Any ideas/suggestions anyone please? Thank you.
  17. GimmeCashback's avatar
Try logging out of Ancestry, clearing the cookies in your browser, and logging back in. Then click on the link to the worlwide deal in this thread while logged in.

Thanks for this. Had cancelled last year's UK contract in advance of it expiring, but had to wait for it to fully run out before I could add UK to basket again. In the end went for Worldwide which incidentally it WOULD let me add to basket before the prev contract had expired - maybe because it was a different product to the active one (UK vs WW).
