For anyone unsure, go for it. This phone is seriously feature-rich, and not very far off flagship specs and performance in most respects. At this price most manufacturers don't offer 12GB memory and 256GB storage.

And this is the lightest (166g) normal-sized phone with 5000mah battery, which makes it very comfortable to use - along with being thin 7.6mm, a non-slip back, and flat screen.

The FM radio and headphone jack are very handy too.

I think that's a Really important point about the weight, especially for people out and about most of the day...

Yes Motorola in general do have some if the lightest android phones around these days, most are around 190-200+ grams these days, the 166 grams for this would be noticeably easy to carry around.

I was looking at the Motorolas this year because of this (I find my Pixel 7a is just far to heavy to carry about), I leave it at home and still use my Pixel 5 instead)... phones have got stupidly heavy now (as well as too big). (edited)

The Perk at Work deal at £175 still beats this.

Is this reliable in terms of upgrades and no bugs/glitches etc?

I've had Moto phones since way back to the 4 or 5. I've always found them to be free of bloat and near untainted Android.
The G84 is due to be upgraded to Android 14, and security updates for 3 years. I upgraded from a G8 Plus which was on Android 10, and was receiving no secuity updates, but found it to be operating still without problems, including banking.
So basically, I have no worries about the G84. Go for it!

Anyone recommend a case for this? It’s for an elderly parent.

It comes with a case, no need to buy another one.

So, just bit the bullet on this, a few questions from a long standing iOS user...

I'm switching to this from an iPhone SE 2020 but haven't used android for about 12 years...

I remember back in the day you had to use anti virus software like avast? on android phones...is this still the case & if so what's the best free one I should be installing?

Also, I'm looking at using a 1p mobile sim(main number) PLUS a Lebara sim (solely for the cheap data plans, then dumping it every 6 months for their new data plan...

Just want to make sure this would be possible & the easiest way of setting the Lebara sim for data only

    Any guidance appreciated.

    Cheers! (edited)

The days when the smartphone needs an anti-virus app are gone a long time ago . To be honest, I'm on android since they came on the market, and I never had any anti-virus apps on it as android I slightly different platform than windows. I believe that back in the days, there were Windows,Linux OS based smartphones such HTC,NOKIA,Blackberry, and others who possibly had anti-virus app, but now is all covered by security pack updates. As comment above, I can confirm that this phone supports two Sim cards, and usually, you are able to select which a sim card is responsible for ( sim calls, data, messages). People choose an Android based phone for its flexibility. (edited)

Just a quick one...on this YouTube video it shows the SIM tray & insertion of 1 SIM card...how do you insert 2 physical sim cards at the same time?

Great find just ordered. I used to be a Sony then Samsung fan but my last three phones have all been Motorola. A must for me is a phone having SD card option as I have a vast collection of plays and audio books I listen to. Thanks!

How does this compare to the Redmi Note 10 Pro? Is it a worthwhile upgrade?

cheapest price for this phone but I still think it's worth paying a tenner extra at JL for two years's warranty instead of one. Maybe that's just me.. Edit: although it does say two years warranty if you read the full specs on this box deal (edited)

What are the advantages, if any, of going for a Samsung galaxy over this at similar price point?
Need to upgrade my s9, camera and battery life are important. Like the size of the s9 don't want anything too much bigger.
Son got the a34 256gb on the pre Xmas CPW deal and seems really happy with it. But sure whether to wait out a bit and see if I can get a good price on one of those or a54 or go for something like this. Not fussed on the loss of headphone jack on the samsungs but guess I'd just get wireless buds or whatever.
Any thoughts, advice, suggestions please? Tend to hold on to phones until the need to change, hence the s9, and need to upgrade husband's too so the price point is important.
    Cheers (edited)

Then buy better specification phone. In your case of keeping for long Lithium Polymer battery or advanced Lithium Ion model + wireless charger (to save usb c) is must have. They last twice longer. Usual Lithium Ion battery like on this phone dies in 2-3 years. Count in future proofing, updates and price per year. I would go with Sony or Samsung S23 ultra. Other phones it seems not passing 3 years mark.
Any Motorola is low cost/ bad quality phone made in and for India. I had few bad experiences with cameras, burning processors, cracking screens in warmer climates and so on.
I would say premium phones last 5+ years. Budget ones are behind 2+ years. Mid tier - it deepnds

Very poor camera and mediocre specs.. This is a phone you give to your parents or teenage kid, and neither of them needs 12GB RAM + 256 storage... It's such a weird combination, I'd rather have a half-decent camera than this.
    Supatramp's avatar
    Your beliefs, I'd disagree 100%!!

Anyone recommend a decent full case for this. I appreciate it comes with one but looking for a full durable cover style wallet which holds a credit card incase NFC fails! Cheers
    Jarosik's avatar
Dux Ducis make some very nice wallet cases that close magnetically without the annoying wrap around strap. The materials feel nice too and aren't bulky. Can be seen here but shop around/check eBay.
