Can you grill chicken in it too?
    teh.arn's avatar
Yea. If it’s on a pizza.

Anyone know how this would compare to an Ooni please?
    lee_79_uk's avatar
I have an ooni, the wood version...

I don't really recommend... In my opinion it's overpriced and nothing special.

The product took off during 2020 when people's garden used to be a pub, a restaurant, a pizza hut etc...

If you try to cook like 5-6 pizzas it loses heat quickly every time you open the door and put the next one... for 1 or 2 pizzas it's fine.

Same price and vendor via Amazon if anyone prefers.

How long do these take to reach temperature, before you can cook your pizza in 90 seconds?
    goodmerm's avatar
    about 15 minutes

Looks very interesting at this price.
Gas consumption is quoted at 300g/hour, which isn’t too bad considering the 3-sided burner.
Front gas control looks much more convenient than my Ooni’s knob at the very back.
Scroll down the product page to find a link to the videos. (And manual)
The obligatory Italian ‘expert’ doesn’t do too bad a job with the dough (despite the slo-mo!), though I would suggest that his topping style and crisp (stiff) base tends more towards New York than Naples.
Much of the manual seems to be a copy and paste job from a barbecue grill - don’t even think about seasoning the cooking surface with oil!
The qualities of a good pizza stone, and the way that it transfers heat to the bottom of the pizza are a bit mystic. Different stone does make a big difference, and anywhere near 500c is generally considered beyond where the white Cordierite works well (without burning the base). I don’t know what is being used here. But I suppose if the stone really does measure 12 inches square, it should be able to accept alternative “12 inch” stones.

The manual states this (unless you feel there it should be more involved than this?

First time use - curing the plateDuring manufacturing, the cooking surface is coatedwith a non-toxic paint. This paint will come offcompletely over time. Its purpose is purely to helpprotect your oven during transport and storage.Coat the cooking surface with canola oil or cookingoil. Light the oven. Leave the oven with all burnerson low for about 30 minutes. Paint may come off atthis time. After cleaning, the cooking surface is nowcured and ready for use. This process only needs tobe done the first time you use the oven.

Preparing the cooking surfaceIt is recommended to coat the cooking surface withcooking oil before lighting as this will help keep thefood from sticking to the cooking surface. Turn on theburners and leave them burning at a low temperature(“LOW”) to preheat the cooking surface.

I was thinking about another stone (see how this one goes first) but currently have a Weber Glazed Pizza Stone and it's the best surface I've had for a pizza stone. Unfortunately don't think they do a small enough square version for this, but once I know dimensions, will see if anyone else does a compatible sized one that is glazed

Got a pick up notice from DHL so should be here tomorrow or day after hopefully.

Bit the bullet and bought one as I can't justify the extra £300 for a Roccbox.... @sotv what type of connector does it need for the gas please?
    sandogg's avatar
Mine also arrived today, it came with a 27mm patio gas clip on connector and hose. Gas connector at the back of the oven is standard push on 8mm gas nozzle.

Been looking at 5kg patio gas bottles in case i buy this and its either £20 or £80 ish im not sure whats going on here, is 20 a refill swap and 80 a new bottle. Help how does it work
    wdh's avatar
Different brands, different detail of the deals. But yes there is a ‘cylinder charge’ when you first get the thing, and when you need a refill you would expect to swap your empty for a full one and just pay for the gas. And yes that does imply an exact like-for-like swap. Any flexibility is not to be expected, but ymmv.
You may find an appropriate empty being offered nearby on eBay or elsewhere for less than the retail cylinder charge (but more than the surrender refund!) But don’t expect to be able to swap even the same size for a full one with a different connector (let alone a different gas!) Exact same and you should be ok.

Alternatively use your gas fired oven that’s in the kitchen

    Not the same.

Managed to give mine a go at lunch today. My advice is to max the burners to get the oven and stone hot, but turn them to low for cooking - it was burning the crust too fast otherwise…

Looks good, think I've found a suitable Stainless Steel table to accommodate it, for £54 so waiting on that before I set it all up and give it ago. But looking forward to using it

Didn't expect to be buying a pizza oven this morning after buying a full S/S griddle insert for my Genesis Gas Grill from the USA yesterday but for the price though it was worth the punt.

Definitely thats it for Outdoor cooking stuff for me this year already (edited)

Looks like a great deal, weird though as I thought it looked like it took more than just a 12" pizza

Ordered. Seems like a competitive price to me and of reasonable quality. I'm thinking that the usual brand names may be 'better' but may not offer that much more for the extra cost.

    I'd never use one...

I prefer pizza cooked indoors eaten outdoors, too much hassle for the one day a year you would use it.
    TKDBlackbelt's avatar
Obviously individual, too much hassle for you, I make pizza all year round in my Gozney.
