Do you need to have a smart meter to be accepted for this offer?

    Power Move FAQs

    11. Who is eligible for Power Move?
Power Move is available to all OVO Energy customers who meet the following criteria:

be a new or existing OVO Energy customer
have a communicating electricity smart meter * <<<
    have a credit meter
have a single rate meter (meaning you only pay a single, flat rate for your electricity) or economy-7 meter
opt in to half-hourly meter readings (you can opt in to half-hourly readings via your online account)
    have an active email address
have OVO Energy as your energy provider
Unfortunately, not all meter types are compatible with Power Move. You won’t be able to sign up to Power Move if your meter type is incompatible.

Available for existing customers but no mention of plugs for me as an existing customer. Actually loads of good info on your usage as a existing customer - which I never knew about so thannk you OP for highlighting this. Heat added

Free smart plugs would've been nice, doesn't mention this for me, presumably as I was in the September one - try as I might I couldn't manage it. Didn't use the dishwasher, washer or dryer during the peak times .. possibly could've done it I'd not used the oven but who is willing to delay their dinner by hours every day in order to get a few quid 🙈

On a side note if someone is looking for some cheap smart plugs I have some of the P100 plugs and they are very inexpensive, £21.99 for 4 on Amazon currently, they are basic just on/off control with no energy monitoring but do the job and work with home assistant with a tapo integration I found on the HACS storefront. The p110 on this deal has energy monitoring but you don't really need it (imo) (edited)

The actual challenge seems quite difficult for the time of year. Signed up though to see if I get sent the plugs, but I don't think it will be achievable .... even now those hours account for 25% in our household.

    Target

Use 13.5% or less of your home’s total daily electricity between these times.

    1 October to 31 December
    Lower electricity use,
    Monday to Friday,
    4pm to 7pm

I didn't manage it in September and did avoid the dishwasher and washing machine during these hours. I feel it's very difficult to achieve, especially for those not in the house during the day. My kids wouldn't be happy waiting until 7 for me to start cooking!

I signed up on the 6th but still haven't had an email, is it advertised anywhere so I can check with Ovo if I'm eligible or if the allocations have run out? (edited)

I signed up on the 3rd and have only just got the email confirming I am getting the plugs. (edited)

Interesting. Is this a good deal to switch on from the standard tariff?

Not sure what tariff I'm on, but for me it wasn't a change in tariff. You just join the offer which sits on top of your existing tariff.

I think it's just a win win situation, you save energy and they buy less expensive energy from 3rd parties at peak times, which is likely when they occur more costs.
Also, great marketing on their end, which attracts more customers (edited)

signed up but no sign on the free smart plugs? Don't see any details on ovoenergy.com/pow…ove?

Annoyingly it automatically signed me up to the October one as joined the September one but have never had anything free and no mention of the plugs when I sign in so guess I'm not eligible.

same happened to me, then got email that the plugs were on their way. But I had only singed up to Power Move late late september, so maybe they decided that I was still a first time customer for that

I got the email about this but the link still doesn't work for me - does it only work on a desktop computer?
  11. scoobdriver's avatar
Has anyone found if this is compatible with the charge anytime tariff / add on ? Ie can you have both ?
    Local.Hero's avatar
Yes. I have the charge anytime add-on and they let me join the promo. Plugs have been dispatched.

To be eligible for this offer ,should I choose a greener energy plan or simpler energy plan be enough?
  14. axum's avatar
I know this will vary across the country but what are their rates like generally ? Not sure why anyone would switch to anything other than Octopus these days...
  15. bluefish2303's avatar
I signed up on October 3rd but no mention of smart plugs at the time ...
  16. gregskellorn's avatar
£10 freebie won't go far against energy bills...

I've just moved to a house with ovo, their call centre is awful, I'd suggest if you want these just buy them, unless you value your time/sanity less.

Was disappointed that as I'd signed up for powermove before this, I wasn't eligible for the deal. Just received email that they'll be sending the two free smart plugs for people signed up already
