Anyone done the trade in offer? Wondering if the appraisal part is inconsequential to the discount, and the do what I've often experienced when returning items i.e. as soon as the courier registers that you've dropped off the item, they action the refund (before its actually reached them).

It’s very easy, and instant credit. They withhold the right to charge you if you’ve told any porkies, but I’ve never heard of that happening.

Does anyone else's now show products when it didn't before? I've had an echo show since the 1st gen giant pyramid ones and it never ever suggested amazon products to me, until now. Not a feature I like, considering amazon usually discount items that show ads (e.g. kindle)

You can turn it off in settings.

With the trade-in offer, if I trade in an echo dot, it says £5 credit on amazon. Does the 25% off the echo 8 price still come into effect? Or do I just receive the credit?

When you do the trade-in, you’ll get the confirmation by email if you qualify for the extra 25% discount on top of the £5 value of the trade-in. It only works for one trade-in per account. (edited)

Nice price , Trade in sounds good but on a previous offer by the time they'd got the trade in, the price had gone back up , but probably something I'd fluffed up

Trade in credit is instant, they will charge you if they don’t receive the trade in device within a certain timeframe.

Did you have to wait for appraisal before the discount was applied?

Can't wait to see who "todays inspirational woman" is on an 8" HD screen!

Got an older Echo Show 5 and the information/news that scrolls through lately is utter drivel, and barely legible on the smaller screen. Wonder if its a way to get people to upgrade to an 8.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the pros and cons of these over a Fire HD 8 tablet for example?
    Jon_Fountain's avatar
As a replacement for an alarm clock these are quite decent, an unlike a tablet I know it's always going to be by the bedside. Do I watch video on it? No. Does it send me to sleep with a book from audible and wake me up in the morning? Yes. Plus with some simple routines, "Good night" turns off all my smart lights and "Stop alarm" plays theed Today programme, I find it quite useful.

Can you install apps like Sonos or Sideload iptv apps like on a firestick?

As much as I unfortunately need this, having gotten the wife used to using Alexa to do fancy things with the heating, the lighting and alarms, and my 2nd Gen Show 5 has got that hideous screen burn effect that makes video or photos utterly useless, I'm a bit wary of getting one of these because (a) I'm not a fan of Netflix being given the flick off the platform and (b) I'm absolutely not a fan of increasing marketing being volleyed at me through the device or the prospect of having to pay for Alexa.

I feel like I gave AI assistants a chance and the commercialisation of them or the lack of devopment of them is just a dhambles I don't want to support.
How does anyone find the Show 8 in this regard?

Does anybody know if you need to send the trade-ins in the original box? I can’t find anywhere mentioning that they need to be in the original box. TIA

No you don't, I sent back an original version 1 echo dot. I wrapped it in bubble wrap and posted it in a jiffy bag. You don't even have to send the power lead.

How is the mic on this one? I want to replace my echo show 5 wirh which i often have to speak commands a lot louder than I'd need to with my Google home mini (edited)

Trade in isn't instant. No UPS drop off locations near me, they refuse to generate a Royal Mail label. Ah well, I shall save my money.

Thanks - upgraded my show 5 first gen for £60. Seems a good deal to me,! My trade in was accepted and the discount and gift card was given instantly. Worth checking if you can get same.

Was this £99.99 after trade in etc or were folk getting 25% discount on the £99.99 price?
    DaveyBoy74's avatar
It comes down to £59 if you do trade in as well
