Just ordered my 2nd 🔥. These are silent. £105 (PayPal) for 16GB ram + 512GB SSD.

They ship with an EU adaptor. I used a shaving adaptor but it didn't feel secure and was easy to knock the plug out. Went for this 12V 3A UK adaotor recommended on an old thread.

    ebay.co.uk/itm…486

Remember to wipe & do a fresh install of Windows 11. Could ship with anything installed! I installed Proxmox which is working perfect.

Currently got Pfsense, small websites & Home Assistant running. Still plenty of capacity.

I'm planning to do a Plex build on my second and move off an Intel NUC which is quite loud. (edited)

Out of interest what's your storage plans for the Plex server?

I've done some crazy stuff to mine.
    52410476-znnit.jpg
I've also used 2 orico usb 3 hubs with ethernet.
I run proxmox. Opnsense VM and used the adguard plugin in opnsense. Played around with pihole and ad guard before opting for that route. I have truenas in VM and passing through 4 drives and I also have Plex and a bunch of arr apps. I've learnt so much. I also have openwrt in a VM using my WiFi card. I changed it to a mediatek 7922 which supports clients

Is this your home router? Is two ethernet ports limiting for that (1 for WAN, 1 for LAN but none left for a management LAN port?)... (edited)

I have purchased this but I am doing a fresh install of windows when I receive it. My question is, will all the drivers be available when I do the fresh install? Just worried that some may be missing after the fresh windows install. Also, I am going to install a new WiFi card with WiFi 6 on it, is this easy to do?
    flywaves's avatar
I cannot confirm if the windows 11 install can get all drivers (someone else her might confirm it) for mine one I formatted and went with proxmox but there are lot of way to backup drivers if you. This video show how if you are interested

Also it is recommended to full format hard drive including recovery partitions

Anyone measured idle power consumption with proxmox and a home assistant vm?
    flywaves's avatar
Just proxmox and one home assistant supervisor vm, the power consumption is average 7watts without any heavy adding like frigate

The WiFi cards in these are truly awful. Something to bear in mind if you're not confident in opening it up and upgrading.
    xenny's avatar
I reinstalled mine and it would only connect at 2.4GHz with the default Windows 11 driver. I tracked down an updated driver, and it now cheerfully connects at 5GHz with a 433 Mbit/sec link, which is as good as you get for single radio 802.11ac.
  6. SeanRTK's avatar
If you wanted to use this as a Plex server for example, do you have to install windows on them first?

I'm assuming these don't come preloaded with windows?
    ukle's avatar
You do not use Windows Desktop for something like that (you can be it's really not a good idea due to easy to fubar security), best with a Linux distro, e.g. Ubuntu. Most people who use one of these run a hypervisor (an OS that runs other OS instances under it), the most common free one is Proxmox.

Any have suggestions for something like this with 2 hdmi inputs but fanless?
    Crossbow's avatar
I think meant this for you hotukdeals.com/com…709 - 1x HDMI & 1x DP for around £142, so it could be liable for VAT.
If you must have HDMI only, I could do a search too. (edited)

I use an nvidia shield as a media centre. But use kodi not plex as I just prefer it. I have 2x external drives attached to the shield which store all my media.

Would this make a decent replacement as the shield is starting to show its age.

I use mine as a plex/jellyfin/arrs box talking to my main synology NAS over SMB. Works great. I'm runningf unRAID on it. (edited)

Paid in US and was £100.70p after conversion. With Monzo.

    What are these like ??
    Crossbow's avatar
Depends what you will be using it for. Also, no upgrade path apart from the storage & better WiFi+BT.
Similar to these desktop CPUs from 2014-2019, but considerably lower power draw & supports 4K resolution with its not-so-shabby Intel UHD 730 iGPU cpubenchmark.net/com…690 (edited)

Cheers. N100 16G 512G EU £98.80 with my REV card. 5-day delivery too. Just might get it for the weekend.
    Crossbow's avatar
It'll usually take 7-10 days if they dispatch it tomorrow.

There a way to connect a number of internal 3.5" hard drives to these units, using an adapter other bridge cheaply, say 4 or so?
    Crossbow's avatar
Another option is this, which can be connected to each other & perhaps taped together(?)...
    Buy 4 & use the $10 coupons - $5 by Aliepress UK2404, & $5 by the store - collect from aliexpress.com/sto…066 = £51 equivalent if paid in USD with a fee-free card aliexpress.com/ite…tml
    52420585-9Jxdi.jpg52420585-k0fln.jpg
    My earlier suggestion...
How about something like this aliexpress.com/ite…tml for around £36 delivered with code UK2404? Pay in USD with a fee-free card to get it a little cheaper.

    Hey all,
Might sound like a silly question but im trying to get into sim racing and got everything but a PC to run something asseto corsa on... would this work? once you load up win 11 could you just use it as a normal pc?
apologies for the silly question if so .
    Thanks in advance !

I don't think the integrated graphics (iGPU) in this will be good enough to get acceptable FPS @ 1080p resolution at medium-low settings, so I would suggest a minimum of the 5500U in this deal hotukdeals.com/dea…185 for around £40 more after the Aliexpress code
    Direct link to it aliexpress.com/ite…tml

For the best advice before buying, I'd highly recommend joining their forum & asking what would be the best based on your budget, expectations & the resolutions/settings you want to run it at - here's an example of someone asking what kind of PC they need to get 60fps @ 1080p assettocorsa.net/for…893
I don't think even a 680M-based miniPC like this hotukdeals.com/dea…183 would be able to play it at max settings to get 60fps & 1080p, but I could be very wrong.

    5500U example performance & settings...

I need an OPN Sense router device with enough horsepower to simultaneously serve as a Wireguard Server and Client on a 1 Gbps connection and has 4 NICs. Any recommendations?
    SteamedLobster's avatar
From this thread someone reports N100 giving 2.25Gbps on a 2.5Gbe port on a different N100 device with wireguard so I would think this can easily do 1Gbe speeds. reddit.com/r/o…05/

Never ordered anything off Ali. What import and customs fees do you end up paying into the U.K.?
    ukle's avatar
None for this. Its only if its over the £135 limit that Aliexpress doesn't handle all that. Note the price on a Aliexpress product page doesn't include the VAT, the real price including VAT + shipping gets shown if you go into your basket.
  24. Cuddl3s's avatar
Is anyone using one of these as a media player for Dolby Atmos mkv played directly to a TV/soundbar?
