You might be able to pick up the older Ryzen 7 6800H cheaper. Same performance and there have been some major stability issues on the mini PC market with some of the new Ryzen mobile chips. The more legit, and expensive, manufactures (Minisforum, for example) have been replacing systems at the buyers cost, but the updated boards do not seem to have fixed all the issues. Was surprised at the bargains to be had on Ebay (Minisforum UM790 Pro for £200) until I came across the long list of issues reported on Reddit.
    andersh's avatar
I'm struggling to see um790 Pro for anywhere near that price. The cheapest sold recently came with no RAM and SSD.

Why no VAT up front? I thought Aliexpress was collecting tax at the point of purchase automatically now?

If it's over the £135 threshold, you're not charged VAT at Aliexpress but UK Customs will do when it arrives here depending on the value they declare on the package.
Here's a good example of both happening in the same listing with different CPU options hotukdeals.com/com…844

    1. Register your fee-free card as a payment method at Aliexpress (Ae) - will be using Revolut as an example here
    2. Change currency at Ae to USD, so you'll be checking out & paying in USD
    3. Add the item to your basket & apply all the various discount codes as applicable
    4. Check the approx current currency conversion rate USD to GBP using something like xe.com
    5. Add the necessary funds (recommended extra £1-2 worth on top) to the Revolut app from your bank account
    6. In the Revolut app, use 'Exchange' to convert GBP to USD
    7. Change the default payment currency in the Revolut app from GBP to USD
    8. Double-check you are paying in USD at Ae & the USD funds in Revolut match or exceed what you need to pay, then hit the buy button

    - These are ok for entertainment/tweaking/home theatre purposes, but refrain from using these types of lesser-known brand PCs from the FE for anything critical or professional - e.g. for your job or run a business on. And probably even avoid any financial/crypto transactions on it altogether to be on the safest side

Great specs for the money, do they have one with 2 m.2 or ssd slot? I'd like to use an R43SG adapter to add an external gpu to a mini pc. Some will let you boot from usb but it can be hit and miss and give a dent in performance.

    (edited)
    bazray's avatar
A quick update whilst it only has 1 dedicated nvme slot, you can possibly convert the wifi slot by removing the MT7921K card and using a short nvme ( 2230 size) with an A-E key to M adapter. Speed might be decreased though. That free's up the main nvme to use for an egpu. From what I can see the best bet is to use an nvme to oculink adaper with cable to a pcie board, speeds are limited to 4x but still better than thunderbolt/usb4. Of course you will nee to add wifi and bluetooth if needed by using a usb adapter. Not an ideal solution but quite possible. This is a great deal, if only they had one more nvme slot I thought I would share what I found if anyone wants to try it.

    52444905-y9rk0.jpg

    aliexpress.com/ite…tml

It will also need an nvme extender board to fit the 2280

    aliexpress.com/ite…tml

And an A-E key to M adapter

    aliexpress.com/i/1…tml

Unfortunately too many variables for me, I did find another cracking mini pc that ticks all the boxes but its quite a lot more money for a similar spec:

    aliexpress.com/ite…tml

I hope in future they all come with an oculink port on them

Last time I owned a PC, it was all 8gb IDE hard drives, GeForce 2's and Plexdor CD Burners. Feeling very behind on the times but interested in getting one of these Minis. How do these fair for VR/MetaQuest? (edited)
    Nujol's avatar
The device will not be suitable for VR.

You will require a dedicated GPU. My son has an 8gb RTX3060. According to the Quest PC app it’s not powerful enough for VR, but it does just fine at around 72fps.

3070 or 4060 GPU minimum I would say in a full size / spec desktop PC, £600-800 budget depending on components required/quality of build. (edited)

Will this play 4k videos smoothly?
    Nujol's avatar
I have a 4-year-old Celeron N4100 minibox that cost £140 and that can output 4K and play UHD no problem…. So I am pretty sure this will be able to!

You are perhaps a little unaware of the capability of even the more basic processors from the last 5 years in terms of hardware UHD playback…

Does anyone know the power draw under load and idle at the wall is for this thing?

EDIT: for anyone else curious found an article where they tested the similar Beelink SER6 Pro and they reported idle 5-6w, under load 55w. Occasional very brief spikes up 85w under maxed out stress testing loads (edited)

Is this spec good enough to run Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024? My sons looking for a rig to play this and his current setup isnt good enough to run this. I equally want something that will run it well rather than being the minimum spec and just about running it but it being pants. I'm not worried it won't be 3000k or an actual plane, just a spec that runs it reasonably well.

Really sorry, there was a time in the past I was up to date with all the latest specs, but there are so many different processors and GPUs out there I just dont have a clue now!

    TIA

Stupid question I know, but how do you use the codes/coupons? I collected the UK2440 one but it does not get applied at checkout and if I try to enter it as a discount code, it tells me I cannot use it with other discounts. I do have free shipping applied but it is just doing that automatically.

It's what they declare on the package that usually determines this, after that it could go either way & the seller has no control over what HMRC does.

I guess for the price it's great - you'll get your 60fps at 1080p with high graphics settings in Fortnite. However for me I bought an i5-10400, 16GB, Dell Vostro 3681 for £200. The K2 appears to be a superior device though, but I just can't bring myself to buy an AMD machine...

Any good deals on 7840hs ones? I want one for light gaming so I think the 780m would be useful. The cheapest I was able to find was 475 I think.
    joe_0LT's avatar
Just a heads up, I tried the Minisforum UM790 Pro for most of last month (similar spec) and found the AMD drivers to be rather unstable for this chipset in games at the moment with very frequent crashes (especially in anything DX12).
Your milage may vary of course, but it's something to be aware of. Also, I'd be weary of manufacture quality of these mini PCs as I had to try 3 replacement units before I got one that had full functionality (faulty USB, M.2 etc). For workstation tasks though I was surprised at the speed of the chipset as it crushed pretty much everything I threw at it outside of gaming (H265 video encoding, blender rendering etc)
With regards to future proofing, good luck. As mentioned the drivers for this chipset aren't great, and it's pretty mature now (been out over 12 months) so I can't see there being any vast improvement. Also, graphics are on par with a 1050ti, and with Nvidia Blackwell around the corner, as well as the 'next gen' console releases immanent, this thing will age pretty quickly.
However, if you want to play games already released, or are just interested in compact CPU performance, it's a great option.

My tracking updated and it's being held at my local office. I've just paid:

    Import VAT £42.65
    Handling fee £8.00
    Total £50.65

One I paid my delivery is schedule for Monday.

So all in all, three weeks from purchase to delivery (assuming it comes Monday).

I don't have an issue with the import charge, it's a tax or the handling fee. I just wish it would have arrived sooner but at least I have a definite date for delivery now and understand the process for any future transactions.

⚠️ Just to note, we've had an Easter Bank Holiday so effectively four days off, so likely the delivery time will be quicker but make allowances if ordering in such circumstances. (edited)

From my 2013 i7s with on board integrated graphics. I've never ordered from Ali Express before so new experience. In terms of installing, I'll be doing the windows install, registering Windows and then doing a full on drive format and reinstallation. This is just in response to some chatter about viruses etc coming with these PCs in the past. Sure it'll be fine just being cautious.
