I started off only taking my VW to a VW garage to get serviced, then I decided to take it to a local garage as it was cheaper, now I just buy the parts online and service it myself. I purchased an oil pump from Lidl for about £15, a spanner for the oil filter for about £7, now I can do a full service (oil change with engine flush, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and pollen filter) for about £45 and it only takes about hour to do. Not sure how much that would be at a VW garage but I think it saves a lot if you can learn to service your own car. (edited)

Thanks for sharing - noted it runs until the end of the month and my current plan doesn't expire until the first week of December - anyone have any prior experience on if they will let me extend?

I may get downvoted for this, but I REALLY distrust dealership services. I understand that it's worth it for preserving resale value of a car for the first few years of a cars life, but I've had nothing but bad experiences. For example, in the space of 4 years:

Overpricing work (4 new tyres were priced at over £250 more than my local tyre fitters via black circles for identical tyres), Timing belts / Drive belt replacements at a 30% premium ect
Claiming to have done work and not (brake fluid replacement as a paid extra on top of the plan, which was not done and verified by other garages due to water content of the fluid)
Investigation on a water leak on rear windows within a warranty period which they claimed didn't exist. (all they had to do was leave the car in the rain overnight, it's that simple) after already having an argument in regards to if it was in warranty (car was less than 2 years old)

My experience is to find a local garage with good reviews and which specialises in the make. There's plenty out there

My next service/mot isn’t due until next July. How will this work?

I recently bought a Service Plan for my Audi on Sunday (29th Oct), as it was 5 years and 11 months old at the time
Then they started the 25% off promotion just yesterday (31/10)
Called them up, and asked if it would be possible to apply your discount to my service plan - but they told me I would need to cancel my current plan, wait 10 days, and then sign up again
Thing is.. starting today, my car just turned 6 years old, so I don't think I fall under the threshold for the All-In for Audi service plans any more (edited)

Had mine serviced under the service plan, they didn't even change the oil filter....yet claim they did

Don't buy a VW transporter there rubbish, eat oil, rubbish MPG. Never buy again

I use bookmygarage.com. Full service and mot at the main dealer for £142.

People seem to be missing the point it has the Warranty, that's the most appealing thing for me here - but I didn't go ahead and take it.

PS. It's because my Passat is DSG .... fingers crossed I don't regret my decision. (edited)

Vw servicing costs are ridiculous anyway

With the 25% discount it’s virtually the same price I paid last year?? So they have put the price up… now they saying it’s a discount but the same price it already was..

Are these worth the money? Opinions please, Ta.

When I first bought my Leon in 2020 (17) plate I ordered the service plan on the Black Friday deal as I wanted to try and keep up the dealer servicing. It was £359.76. I've previously done my own maintenance on previous cars but I've had enough of crawling under cars in the rain.

The next time it rolled around I booked a one-off service as the service plans had gone up.

This year they've gone up again and the same plan on Black Friday is £486 an extra £127 or £42 a year! They've also started making some sneaky changes to the plans and the rest of their servicing as well.

You used to get 5 years warranty on the Cambelt service now it's only 2. The cambelt used to be around £499 now it's well over £800!? They also started offering only two options for my car which were an interim service and an interim with supplementary scope. This means you had to add the air/pollen filters and spark plugs on as extras. The spark plugs alone they are charging are over £100 for a 4cyl and used to be included in the service plan along with everything else.

They used to offer free collection and return within 5 miles which was great when working from home. Then they started charging £10 for the service which was fine for the convenience. Now they won't even offer it as I'm not close enough despite moving another half mile closer to the dealership? So now I have to take time off work drive the car down and get taxis to and from the dealer.

I did manage a small win recently where there was a pricing error on the website and I managed to book a Cambelt service at a main dealer along with a brake fluid change for £267. I did have to go through some intensive questioning at the dealer with them saying they were making a loss on it and how did I do it etc. But since someone in their service department had approved the work prior to the day they had to honor it. They did take all week to do the service so I played my face on day 2 and got a courtesy car for the duration. I suspect they weren't happy about losing x amount of money and having to do the work for free.

I doubt I'll be taking it to Seat next year for its annual service and will try one of the local VW/Seat specialists instead. To note I've always been happy with the work they've carried out and their video inspections are useful at knowing what's on the way out so I can get it sorted before the MOT but the prices and hidden charges have been creeping up for years and it no longer makes financial sense.

Unless i'm missing something, If you have a VW that has finished the standard 3 year warranty, just coming up to 6 years old... you could get a 2 year all-in-service plan that gives you the AA, Warranty, MOT's & 2 services (reactivating warranty until it's almost 8 years old)! (edited)

My VW dealer was always trying it on. Advice like “you need new brake pads all round, they’re 70% worn” when an independent garage confirmed they were still good for several months more. Failing to mention, at the same inspection, that the bearings were completely shot on one wheel which could have caused a big accident. For any work they carry out, the labour costs are outrageous. Always go local now the warranty has expired unless it’s something really technical only VW can deal with. 

Honestly people u should do it yourself, loads of youtube videos, and if your worried about getting under your car to empty the oil there's a handy oil pump for about £12 that goes on ur battery and the tube goes do the dip stick to suck it out. The rest is easy.

Got it last time when it's on offer, great deal if you have a car that is under 6 year old, otherwise they will rip you off for small job that they do.

I have a 67 plate Passat estate, purchased 2021 - So just came to the end of 2 year used warranty.
However...its always not having an extenses warranty that worries me.

At this price..not so sure the above is true.

We have a 66 plate Golf GT 2.0 diesel Blue Motion with 34,000 miles and they want £360 for 2 oil changes.

No Thanks £58 Plus VAT from our local garage with the right spec oil.

Why not book though bookmygarage? Service and mot is cheaper than this and last two years iive taken it directly to VW anyway.

SKODA are doing the same 25% off, just checked. Not sure if it's any use to me as my nearly new skoda automatic was bought from an independent dealer in July with 12 months MOT and low mileage, is it worth taking this up, do you think?

Anyone worried about timing belts on petrol engines - from June this year VW extended replacement to 15 years or 140k miles. So realistically you don't need to worry about it
And with All-in-one plan you have the extended warranty if things don't go to the plan

Is this for audi also?

"scheduled services" are these the 20 000 miles oil change and the lifetime-oil-non-serviceable DSG's ?

Not being cynical, its just that modern guidance on car service intervals are nuts.
