Buy the new Pixel 8a and get up to £490 back with eligible phone trade-in, which includes £150 in extra promotional value. Offer starts on 07/05/2024 at 15:00 BST and ends on 03/06/2024 at 23:59 BST. Typical representative amount: £490 for iPhone 14 Plus 512GB. Trade-in can only be applied with a new Pixel 8a purchase. Trade-in values vary based on condition, year, and configuration of your trade-in device. The traded device must be sent within 30 days of you receiving your new phone for the original estimate to be honoured. However, the trade in value is subject to change upon inspection once the phone has been received. If the post-inspection value of your phone is determined to be less than 75% of the estimate value, your phone will be returned to you. Google Store will refund your original payment method. If Google Store cannot refund your payment method, you’ll receive Google Store credit. If you finance your new phone, Google Store will refund you through the Klarna payment option and Klarna will process your refund in line with your agreement with them. If the value of your traded device is greater than the value of your new device then any difference will be issued through Google Store credit. Do not trade in your old device if you have returned your new phone to Google. In these circumstances, any refund issued will be by way of Google Store credit. Full T&Cs apply: store.google.com/int…-in

Better to buy any old used pixel 2 for £43 and get £193 trade in so you will have Pixel 8a for £350
  2. tuckeral's avatar
£217 trade in for a Pixel 4a is very generous. Takes the 8a to under a £300 upgrade, which is great

Given pixel 8 price has gone down to a similar level or even lower, I don't see the point of buying this. Google release cycle is strange.
    alexf's avatar
On the contrary, I don't see the point in spending the extra £70 for the Pixel 8. They're essentially the same, what's the point in spending more?

Does anyone know how long you have to trade in your phone
    alexf's avatar
Do you mean once you've placed your order, or how long does the uplift last? You have 30 days to send your old phone once the order's placed, the £150 uplift offer expires on June 2nd.

Never traded with Google before. Are you required to send a charger or packaging or just the phone itself.
    DRB_Me's avatar
Just the phone and make sure to do a factory reset before you send it.

    Just get the 8

Currys doing their £150+ trade in deal now, might be easier for folk who like to do it in store

    alexf's avatar
They don't seem to pay as much as Google for trade ins. For example, Pixel 6a gets £213 at Currys, but £257 with Google. Worth checking before you go this route.

Pixel 9 in 4-5 months…will hold until then.

or a Pixel 10 in like 16-17 months

Worth trading in OnePlus 10t for £229?
    zomgwtfbbq's avatar
Definitely not if you value having decent cellular signal. The 10T runs circles around this phone in reception.

How much trade in for a pixel 7a with a broken screen?
    alexf's avatar
Assuming it turns on and still works, they're estimating £221 (including the £150 bonus)

The Google store website says 7 years of feature drops and security updates. It doesn't say 7 years of OS updates...
    alexf's avatar
It's the same phrasing as with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro on their shop pages, on the support website, Google say "Android version updates"52712595-BgDAD.jpg

Way too overpriced. We've already seen the Pixel 8 at under £400 multiple times -- this phone needs to be £350 or less.
  14. alexf's avatar
Thanks OP, been eagerly awaiting this phone. With the £150 uplift on trade-in, I might bite now and trade in my Pixel 6a. With 7 years of software updates promised, don't think I'll be needing an upgrade for a little while!

I have the same phone, it is running fine though no complaints.
But £242 on top of my pristine condition 6a is mad though.

Trade in Amazing prices £186 for a Samsung J3

I may be getting one of these total for 256GB one £373

    Tempted....
  16. euoi's avatar
This seems like a no brainer to me,. especially with the 7 years of OS updates. Plus they're offering me £257 for trade in on my Pixel 6a, which I paid £236 for 2 years ago. Very tempted...

Same boat as me...traded the pixel 4a for 6a in late 2022 and now looking to get rid of the 6a for the 8a in mid 2024...this preorder deal is very appealing even tho I've had "issues" with both the pixels I mentioned. Got till the 3rd June to decide. (edited)

    Pixel 8a £211 after trade in (7a)
  18. jocksteeluk's avatar
Good deal for the trade in.
  19. misiokicio's avatar
imo that's a bargain for just over 300 quid, basically trading in some old banger with a broken screen as long as is turns on, tried 3a , p20 lite... all comes up with 190 ish trade in
  20. madcap's avatar
I nearly bit with the trade in bonus, but going to hold out for the Pixel 9 (edited)

Is this much of an upgrade from the 7?
    rubelr's avatar
Don't think so, I have the 7, will skip upgrade this year. No point
  22. v5535's avatar
    I've got a dodgy 6a, £257 cashback! Worth a try

Trade in drop down has no option for S10 lite?
  24. reckoning's avatar
Pixel 6 currently feels fine, but a broken charge port is making this very tempting. Don't like relying on Qi charging, or whatever it's called these days.
    Deal_searcher's avatar
Should get that fixed by Google under consumer rights act if just over two years or under warranty

    18w charging speed in 2024
    reckoning's avatar
Don't you charge your phone at night? Can't say I've ever needed fast charging for anything other than a laptop etc.
  26. JoeyPants's avatar
Hmm, just bought a used 6pro for £159 to replace my broken screen 7a and wondering whether I should go for this instead. Says I can get £219 for the 7a.
  27. castleheg's avatar
Pixel 7 getting a £306 trade-in against the 8a bringing it below £200, but is it worth it? Also Google have really cut back the Pixel 7 trade-in against the Pixel 8 to £231
  28. lazybanana's avatar
Does anyone know, if the £150 (plus value) gets taken off when taking a 24 month payment plan, or just if buying handset outright?
    Deleted041071960810's avatar
Blimey - my reply explaining it was removed as it mentioned the finance provider.

    Right - let's try again.

You pay by finance - the trade in value will be paid back to you through the finance provider. So effectively it reduces your credit with them. As to how that works - as in does it reduce the payment amount, or the length it takes to pay off, I'm not sure.

If the trade in value was greater than the finance, the extra is paid in store credit. It's all in the small print at the bottom of the web page. (edited)

Don't mean to be a Debbie downer, Why not just buy the pixel 8? Like Quid more but a lot better phone?
    solid's avatar
    Definitely a valid option
  30. Dubmonkey's avatar
How does the trade in work with Google One 2tb plan? It's £7.99 a month and you get 10% back in store credit.

    "How it works
Shop on Google Store while signed in with your Google One email address.
Any time that you purchase an eligible device or accessory, you'll get 10% back in Store credit, which will automatically be applied to your account 24 hours after your order has been dispatched."

Would the 10% be on the purchase price after trade in or the full £499? I'm just wondering if it's worth signing up before ordering...

Annoyingly they accept lots of other Xiaomi phones but not my Note 10 Pro! (edited)

    Pixel 8 128GB can be had for £559.20 with a 20% student promo code with £75 trade-in boost = £484.20

    Pixel 8a 128GB £499 with £150 trade-in boost = £349

    Like-for-like Google Store comparison = £135.20 cheaper.

However, that Pixel 8 128GB has been £385.20 from Voxi a couple of months ago so the Google Store price is inflated. (edited)
