Free 5gb of Türkiye 🇹🇷 roaming for 30 days is the deal. Plenty of Sims to choose from for EU 🇪🇺 roaming but very few deals which include Türkiye.

Generally most providers charge £6 a day to use you allowance in Türkiye. Given Türkiye is likely to be very popular this year due to it being one of the few currencies the pound is doing well against, hopefully this will save people some money.

Also available:

25gb with 10gb roaming for £20

35gb with 15gb roaming for £25

Just a note. The Lycamobile website is dreadfully slow for me. Maybe they are having a bad Internet day, today.

Small print says “This bundle includes an EU Countries & Turkey data roaming allowance of 5 GB.” Does this mean only 5gb of the 15 will work in Turkey?

Correct, just been to EU with Lyca and I was cut off as I went over their unclear EU allowance

The £20 bundle gives 10GB roaming data and the £25 15GB.

It’s called Türkiye and it’s totally safe

Agreed, It's actually called Turkiye, it's like when Spanish people actually call their country España, and if we were to refer to it by it's actual name.

Or when the Ivory Coast became Cote d'Ivoire.

And I've been to Turkiye plenty of times, it is extremely safe.

I know many people who got charge £45 per 100mb of data usage in Turkey and if you want to buy Turkish sim card ,you need to have passport. You will pay double on airport for sim. You need to use Turkish phone to get connected to WiFi at the airports. My Esim didn't work in Turkey last week, so this deal is a steal!!!

What Esim did you use? I found a provider called BNE with cheap rates that include turkey

Since seeing this post I have been doing a bit of reading as we are off to Turkiye in a few weeks. One thing I have just seen that has put me off getting a local sim card is that you can only have one. After 120 days it appears the phone (via its IMEI number) is blocked as after that point there are additional fees to pay. This would mean I couldn't use the same phone with a new welcome sim on the next visit.

This only blocks the phone from being used on Turkish network providers. You can still use it elsewhere on your normal network.

Think I might go for this offer.

    You get the 4 warnings.

    So its 4x30Days each warning.

so if u travel on the 1st of may u can use the phone for the entire month.
if u are still in the country 30 days later, the 31st of may.

    You will get another warning.

but if ur not in Turkey, and u come back on the 1st of august, ull get another warning.

once u have had 4x30-day warnings, ur phone will be blocked untill the following calendar year be the 1st of May 2024 and it restarts.

so if ur in turkey 4 times a year, no problems.

Why do you not use your Wi-Fi?
    Uranus's avatar
    Uranus
Because wi-fi doesn't exist in the Taurus mountains or in the national parks or when driving between locations.
Not everyone sits in an all-inclusive resort 24/7.

Really miss the turkey sim that used to be included with Vodafone.

Have also seen these esims forTurkey but haven't used them.

Airailo worked just fine last two times we went. Last time was two months ago. Airailo seem to have discounts codes too so check before you buy. Not all phones support esim though.

5gb generally is enough roaming as you end up using the wifi at the hotel/resort majority of the times. a sim from there with 20gb data costs around £18 to £20. If you feel like you are going to be out and about using it then the 10gb raoming for £20 will be better for you. also saves you having to queue up at times at the airport to get a sim when you just want to get out and into your transfer

I'm off on Monday to Turkiye, what a pain the roaming is proving to be.

Tourist sims? Can you not just pick a random local address, a municipal building for example, and claim a normal sim? It's what we do when ordering from afar on that there bezo's amazon. I have addresses in the US and Germany for example.

As a note I would have done this if my Galaxy S10 accepted eSIM. (edited)

There are Turkcell stores on high Street, go in there with your passport and they'll do it all for you. It's even easier if you have a double sim slot...

I see some people are suggesting using an esim instead.
I am not aware of voice call capability with esims.
Has this changed recently, or are people comparing apples to oranges?

Used data esim previously, worked ok for calling via WhatsApp with other people in our group.

But not the same as being able to call local numbers

The best SIM card for roaming in Turkey is Lycamobile UK’s AloTurka SIM. This is available for just £15 for 30 days usage. It comes with inclusive roaming in Turkey & the EU so you can use it at no extra cost when you travel to Turkey.

For your £15 top-up on Lycamobile’s AloTurka SIM, you’ll get 15GB data, unlimited UK minutes, unlimited UK texts, and 50 international minutes to Turkey. There’s no contract and no credit check required. You can also choose between a physical SIM card and an eSIM.

If 15gb sounds good but 5gb will expire in 1 day posting all those Balmain and Gucci T-shirts on insta (edited)

I will never touch Lycamobile ever again after the hassle they've caused. Even their free SIMs.

My plan when I visit Turkey in a few weeks is to purchase a 5GB Turk Telecom eSIM from Nomad for £8.50 (even less if you get referred). Curious to know why people had issues with eSIM as so long as you've got right APN settings and roaming enabled you should be good to go. (edited)

I'd say it's worth it. You can get a sim there when you land but it's bit of a hassle and will probably be £10 minimum anyway.

Obviously if you are going to be there for less than 30 days and not use more than 5gb

Once the month is up most just end. Check the T & C's. From what I have read often on top of ghe cost of the plan is a charge for the sim.

I remember last year my brother in law took a local sim inside Instabul airport and it was similarly priced to this but alot more allowance. It was a simple process and the staff were quite helpful.

I was in Athens the year before COVID and my hotel had a phone all set up inside my room to use. Was quite helpful using google translate and maps. (edited)

It'll be interesting to see if the likes of Lebara or other similar providers follow suit. I already have a local sim which my sister tops up for me to keep it active but could really do with one for the wife or kids to avoid having to share my data all the time. Fingers crossed Lyca have started a trend

A million different reasons. Not all us are staying in a hotel and may want data and calls when Not near a free WiFi spot, like driving and using Google maps for example.

Also my phone does not support an esim. (edited)

I bought this, and when sim arrived the £20 I added was not showing and I can’t find any details. I’m off to Turkey tomorrow so topped up £20 again and now it says I can’t add the bundle as no primary bundle. So it all seems a bit of a con, I’m £40 out and still no further forward. Called customer service who told me to email them. I’d dodge this company.

Okay so been using this deal for a week in 🇹🇷.

Was easy to buy the SIM, set it up, and so far been solid in using while in 🇹🇷

OH went for a VOXI roaming pass which £10 more expensive even if you already have a VOXI plan. But again has worked well.

DD has Airalo E-Sim which needed roaming and the SIM turning off and on again to work, but has also worked well.

    Loving Turkiye.

CS are pretty poor (polite version) .... I bought the sim from a Lyca online account but didnt work for a family member the other end. Even though the account is in my name and Im paying for the sim CS wont speak to me.....problem is person who has the sim is now in Turkey with the sim....

If anyone is in the same position with a Iphone having problems ...have a read of this post on Apple about checking some of the data roaming settings on the Iphone.
