About this deal
This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:
Decent price for the Asus RT-AX86U Pro router model, UK prices are over £250, but Amazon Italy has it for €181.99 (£155ish at time of writing). Cheaper than a lot of lower spec and performing routers at this price, not sure I would be willing to pay £200 for a router personally, but this looked a better deal than some of the £130 - £160ish devices I was looking at.
Best to use a fee free card if buying to avoid any extra charges. If choosing to buy in GBP on the site, it'll cost ~£162 (which includes Amazon's £3.55 exchange rate fee).
This router is compatible with the Asus-Merlin firmware for those interested, has good reviews for both speed and range as a standalone or as part of an AI mesh router.
I've never needed a gaming router before and the term generally doesn't interest me, but it seems most half decent devices get branded this way now (marketing me thinks).

sorted byOn paper the 2.4GHz performance should be better on the AX88U model, but real world results tend to vary considerably when it comes to wifi performance with all routers.
The AX68U Pro is a newer model and has an updated quad core CPU (2.0GHz vs 1.8GHz on the AX88U), but real world you probably won't notice the difference. The AX86U Pro also supports VLANs (if you need this feature, most people don't), has a 2.5Gbps port and being a more recent release will likely be supported for longer than the AX88U (which came out early 2019 I believe).
Note there is an AX88U Pro which was released around the same time as the AX68 Pro and has similar hardware (2.5Gb port, 2GHz quad core CPU), but doesn't have the 8x 1Gb LAN ports
Horses for courses - depends on what exactly you need from your router.
Only issue I have had with it is the Traffic Analyzer feature simply does not work. For me despite how many factory resets and firmware updates I've done, even ones which in the firmware notes mentions they "fix" the Traffic Analyzer feature. It still stops recording data after 2-3 weeks of recording data. Very frustrating as its pretty handy feature that even some bog standard home broadband routers could achieve... I remember a plain BT router managing it over a decade ago. Maybe they will fix it one day or the community Merlin firmware will fix it.
The RT-AX86U is the older of the 3 but is similar specs to the RT-AX86U Pro (but slightly lower).
The RT-AX86S is a lower spec model to the U and U Pro, a few differences are below:
Only has a dual core CPU (others have quad core)
512MB RAM compared to 1GB on U and Pro models
No multi-gig ports on the S
The U Pro supports guest network pro and VLAN support, the other 2 don’t.
If you don’t need these features then the S is a decent model by the looks of it
Once registered it tells me that the warranty has expired. I contacted Asus who told me that the item is known in the industry as Grey Goods & the warranty isn't valid in the UK.
You will need to check with Amazon Italy what type of waranty they will provide you now in case of issues - assuming a year ?
I am currently using it this way. (edited)
There is a default function on android phones that make routers look bad.
Under the wifi settings, go to inteligent wifi settings and then turn off switching to mobile data.
So what is happening?
When some phones are in range of 5Ghz signal and move out of its reach they turn to mobile data instead of swapping to 2.4Ghz.
Both my gf and myself have s21 and she had this issue.
It's worth of checking before you give it away.
There's quite a few tweaks people talk about on snbforums.com for the wifi if you find any issues.
I bought a new Asus 660TI from amazon germany many years back and Asus would not even provide technical support when they realised I purchased outside of amazon.co.uk.
I went through a lot of back and forth with amazon and asus at the time and amazon eventually took it back and provided me with full credit as the card was only 1.5 years old.
You basically wont have a warranty on the Asus router if you choose to buy it from a European country.
So forewarned ...
Someone said there is a 2 year warranty through Amazon . I personally think it's worth the risk Vs reward for the discount .
Thanks
I run a VPN on it when I'm using IPTV and they've made it even easier by integrating SurfShark into it which is the VPN I use. I use the Asus phone app to turn the VPN on/off. Haven't even bothered to install any of SurfSharks software on my PC.
Best deal I ever had on HUKD . (edited)
that said I’m going to set it up in a month or too save it going to waste.
Now do I return the AX6000 and get the AX86U Pro and save nearly £100?
Thoughts and info.
Cheers
BUT… the Pro also supports VLANs! (source)
Tempted…
If you are buying from Europe, it will have the standard European 2-pin plug.
Sky and their so called "MER" setup is a widely debated topic on the Sky forums, technically it isn't MER on their FTTP lines, it's something like IPoE using DHCP Option 61 and/or IPv6 PD (Prefix Delegation), and Sky strangely used an odd setup for their connections which no one quite understands why!
In terms of a Ubiquitous access point - I believe there's no issues setting it up with this Asus router with the same SSIDs, but it wouldn't be seamless transition between the two (client would disconnect and reconnect to wifi).
Based on a quick look at the costs of the Ubiquiti wifi access points, you could get another cheaper model Asus router for similar/less and create a Mesh network with the two Asus devices - this would be seen as one big wireless network to your devices and there would be seamless transition between them.
