Be careful with Groupon their Terms explicitly say it cannot be use with any voucher code. Topcashback gives 4.25% and probably have a higher chance of approving.

A beginner q but what is the process for installing windows 10 on this if you buy the no os installed version?

You'll need a separate computer than your new computer to do this..

Search "win 10 key pro" (you'll probably want pro version) on Google, search trust score of company you're buying it from.
Buy windows 10 pro key for about 15£ or less.
Download windows 10 media creation wizard to download the Windows 10 installation files. from official Microsoft website. NOWHERE ELSE.!
To find this, Search Google "Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File)"

This will help you create the installation software on to an empty USB stick drive

Format a 16 GB USB cost about 8£
Run software to Create the installation media on USB.
    Eject the USB flash device.

Then turn on new device, when prompted insert USB stick.
You may have to navigate the BIOS by pressing or holding 'f2 key' or something as you first turn on computer.
The BIOS is like a mini operating system every computer has that runs super quick before it runs Windows
    Navigate to the boot menu
    Boot USB enable.

Bare in mind you don't have to buy windows 10 key to use Windows you can use it unactivated. You'll get most the functionality but annoying prompts to "activate windows"

Check YouTube for videos on installing windows there's probably a few.
It's not difficult or expensive. You can do it and it's worth learning.

Do not take this with 16gb ram, pay the extra comes to 556.

It’s certainly a good price for the _extra_ 16GB, but I imagine the base 16GB is more than enough for 90% of people. (edited)

ah start of the no such thing as HDMI 2.0 anymore so this HDMI 2.1 is actually HDMI 2.0...

But the USB C is 4.0 so up to 40GB/s so can do 4k 120.

    Does have a spare M2 2280 slot

Fan issue though as per Lenovo's own youtube page comments too.

"Unfortunately, the fan control is also below average . Even when Windows 11 is idle (on the desktop), the two fans start up after a while. The speed is quite low, but a fan noise can be heard in quiet environments. Completely incomprehensible to me, because the hardware temperatures of the CPU and iGPU are sometimes in a range of less than 40 degrees."

Thanks for the link to the review link

This model with 32GB RAM comes to Total £554.40, which qualifies for the £50 Groupon voucher, making it £500. Complete bargain.

If the voucher code doesn't impact the Groupon claim - I would hope it wouldn't but Groupon are notoriously bad for customer support. Don't forget if you have any saved up Lenovo Rewards you can use those too.

My hinges just went - about 5 years I've had mine, but from reading online it seems a common fault with a lot of manufactures. Simple enough fix (doesn't look pretty) by bolting the hinges back to the screen.

    The_narrow_path's avatar
    The_narrow_path
Yes, but I'd avoid it. It has terrible fan control and you can't change that (it's a BIOS problem). Fans will kick in 24/7, on idle or not at 30 degrees.

What would people recommend for a more compact travel charger? Would a 65W charger actually charge this (given it’s a 75Wh battery)? USB C chargers seem to come in 65 or 100W and the latter seem to be more expensive, less compact and/or get hot!
    Myriad's avatar

Any USB-C charger from UGREEN or Anker, 65w will good enough/min just take a bit longer to charge. (edited)

I'm trying to decide if I get the 14" or the 16". I did preorder the Framework 16" but this is more or less the same specs and a quarter of the price

    What's everyone's thoughts?

I like the idea of portability with the 14". I have a MBP 16" from work. Just wondering if I'd miss the real estate of the bigger screen. Would anyone know the difference in battery life between the two machines? It looks like the 14" only has one M.2 slot serving both 2242 and 2280 drives, whereas the 16" has two M.2 slots in total. One for 2242 and 2280 drives.

I can tell from my own experience.

I have 15.6 inch Lenovo Legion 5 which is quite bulky and heavy but probably smaller overall than idepad 5 pro 16 inch due to smaller screen and differen ratio 16:9 vs 16:10.
Im looking for some good deal for the laptop for few months now and I just ordered 14 inch version for just over 500 pounds - crazy.
My point is 15.6 or 16 inch are too big to carry around the house or using in a coffee shop or when travelling. but if it will be used as a "desktop" it makes sense to go for 16 inch - is it worth the extra money though , that I dont know ;d

Hmm IMO 2.8K is a bit pointless on a 14” laptop, and also for gaming the 780M isn’t going to support decent frame rates at 2880x1800 so can’t game at the native panel res which is never great. I suppose you would game at 900p which would be the best compromise but then that’s just slightly blocky on a 14” screen.
    plewis00's avatar
    plewis00
It's obviously for razor-sharp text and colour-accurate images rather than gaming at native res - this isn't a gaming laptop, people have high resolution panels for tasks other than gaming.

Also laptops like the ZenBook S, XPS 13, 15, etc have had QHD or 4K panels for years. (edited)

If I may ask why would you want a bigger screen? Laptops should be portable so can be carried around easily. Just my thoughts....and don't understand the preference for bigger screens

    Hello everyone,
First of all, a great deal. Thanks for sharing!

Second, I was waiting for the Thinkpad T14s gen 4 AMD to be released, but as these specs are perfect, I was wondering if it's still worth the wait.

Would anyone know how this Ideapad compares to the thinkpad gen 4 line?

    *Chassis, durability, noise.
