I have this phone.... At this price is incredible value.... Only thing I think is you don't get, or I didn't get the charger in the box. The phone is beautiful and camera is brilliant..... Plenty options for anyone into photography.

I'm very torn on this one. It got a spate of good reviews when it came out, though often from units sent out to reviewers, rather than reviewers buying with their own click/Patreon money and saying whatever they pleased; not to say all are dishonest by any means but you don't want to poison your relationship with companies sending you review samples. Some chose it as their camera of the year, astonishing barging, etc - and that was at £450.

To be specific, it was all about the cameras, even the selfie camera shoots in 4K.

I spent a long time looking over sample photographs and I think whether you think they are good, depends on what you want. The images are a little oversaturated and a little too contrasty; in other words they 'pop' in the way that (some) like for uploading to Instagram, etc. I looked for a Gcam port and config file that would tame that look, without restarting to manual or spending time post processing but couldn't find much, which surprised me, perhaps the CPU/GPU Honor used isn't well suited to Gcam.

So, in other words, if you don't like that overly (in my opinion) contrasty look in some scenes (for instance, it can make scenes from rainy day city photography look a bit stark/gothic in some shots; great to shoot a horror movie on?!) that looks to have come from a camera phone; if you prefer smooth graduation between mid-tones to dramatic contrast, if you prefer relatively natural-looking, true-to-life photographs with convincing detail in the shadows/dynamic range, you might want to look elsewhere, which probably means upping your budget.

Also, to get those 'great' camera chops, quite a lot of sacrifices were made.

Budget phone cameras quite often still come with a very welcome headphone socket. This one doesn't. Some come with a decent IP rating, where the Honor is perhaps, at best, resistant to a little drizzle, rather than a full-on downpour, there has been criticisms of it being easy to break, the plastic used, that it has a mono speaker that is easily accidentally covered/muffled and - and there are other criticisms you can read about from some of the less sent-a-review-sample type camera-photography channels.

Still, there are some good features to those cameras and I'm seriously considering getting one as a stopgap to something better a few years down the line, even if it means quite a bit of tweaking in post; I'm told Honor aren't great at bringing out promised updates but... for a few years of use, perhaps worth it. I'm told the screen is pretty good, too. Hope this helps someone a bit; I'm struggling to figure out what I want, too!

Mine was tracked at 4.25%, seems a misleading message on TCB!

Is this better than the S20 FE 5G?

An old boot would be better than the S20 Fe.

Had mine since the day it was released last year. It replaced my p20 pro. Very happy with it, good camera and battery life, screen resolution is great. Excellent deal at this price

Sorry if this is a silly question but what happens after the point where they stop all updates on the phone? Does it virtually become obsolete & unusable? Again sorry if I'm dim!

No it will still keep working as normal - just that you won't get the OS security updates and it will stay on the last or latest android version once updates stop. But nothing stopping you from manually replacing it with the latest android rom. (edited)

I was so close to being close to deciding to decide this might be the one to go for and the code says codes can't be stacked, whatever that means, so truly it appears, indeed, to be expired. Oh, well! The search continues.

Can anyone recommend an effective screen protector for the Honor 90, I am yet to find one that works effectively with the curved screen?

Is this better than the Motorola edge 40 that switchy posted yesterday?
    Chutney123's avatar
I believe (with no real knowledge of most technical aspects) that this is a better phone than the Edge 40 - however it is near double the cost.

I would be interested if anyone is able to suggest which phone is better value for money?

S24 if you can afford it

Great phone specs for the price.  Only let down by it's camera - no image stabilisation means that photos can be blurry or fuzzy.
