£296.99 from £329.99

Been looking around recently to get ahead of the summer rush/panic of buying an AC and came across these - decent-ish reviews on their site, and also from previous deals on here so pulled the trigger and what I thought was an okay price for what you get. There's obviously other models on their site you could apply the 10% to.

Stock seems to come and go so worth checking. Also note that the (first purchase) Toolstation app discount code seems to expire on the 23rd - link for discount info if you need it - hotukdeals.com/vou…390

I bought this for £260 few years ago price seem like they shot up , I ended up returning mine as I didnt feel it was powerful enough for a small room in heat wave , it was ok most other days but as soon as your house get humid and temperature are above 30 degrees this will struggle and you literally have to keep it on and sit directly infront of it where its actually cold but the rest of the room will stay above 30 if that makes sence. I now will only go for 14,000 btu and higher
If you gonna get this I highly recommend collecting them from toolstation as I've noticed a pattern when I get one delivered they end up sounding louder and has more rattle noise to them I'm gussing there thrown about in delivery van and in depot but if you buy them instore you can bring it back safely and hope you got a good one (edited)

Sounds like a faulty unit or you had it set up wrong with the pipe venting inside? No way a 12000BTU unit couldn't handle a single room, my 8000BTU unit downstairs cooled my big room to 26/27C during that hottest spell last year and a 10k unit in the bedroom easily cooled it with just a pipe sticking out through an open window.

I bought this unit back in 2021, it does the job in my office but is rather large/bulky and is a pain to store over winter. I also had some issues with working out how to vent it outside without cutting a big hole in my wall so made a piece of wood I could attach it to. It's quite noisy when running too but it does the job.49975325-gStFJ.jpg49975325-J4ucC.jpg

I rigged something similar up with a clear sheet of acrylic. The trickiest bit was mounting the hose to a vent without air leaks, you've done a very clean job there.

Model back in stock and App still gives 10% off for first time app users till the end of this month.

Anyone know how you obtain the optional dual hose panel for the back of this unit? I gather its a replacement rear cover you need for changing it to a dual hose unit? I've asked Toolstation and they said they 'havent been trained' on the unit?? They recommended I asked the supplier called Midea, which I did and they said I needed to speak to Toolstation! Madness!! Finally managed to set it up - it's definitely a bit of a beast but, pros and cons as I see it (early days, hasnt had a proper warm weather test yet):

    Pro
    - reasonably easy to set up (I will need to mod my exhaust setup for the window, but I knew that)
    - it does chuck out some proper cool air! (again *not had a warm weather test yet)
    - does seem well made
    - not as noisy as I thought - on a carpeted room... my watch measured around 50-55db from a few ft away.. I could sleep with it on

    Con
    - its preeettyyy heavy! (could be an issue for some)
    - large definitely think/measure before you buy because its one thing when in use, but you have to store the thing in winter as well

How did you do your exhaust setup for the window ? I got standard windows open outside not slide one.

49974196-37vVS.jpgWow look at the wattage 1450 how much does that cost to run (edited)
    SirSpanky's avatar
That will be full power. So it will run at that power (for cost do your kWh price times 1.45), but when it reaches temperature it will use a lot less as it maintains the temp rather than trying to reach it (like an oven)

Thanks for sharing, thinking of going for it given a 7000btu unit is about £200. I have never had a portable AC unit and I think the problem I am seeing with reviews is that not many other people have either and so upon buying one, expect it to simply cool down the room.

I think there is a fair bit of work to ensure it works efficiently, no idea if it will work for me but I am anticipating containing the room it goes in, shut the doors and seal the vent at the window. I have seen lots of images of vents just hanging out the window..and then complaining that it's noisy.
I think it will also depend on how well insulated the room is, I would expect it to work well in a contained room in the centre of a house than in a garage.
I would also expect that once a room is at a lower temp the unit will run quieter.

So many variables to consider it's almost impossible to trust reviews

The noise comes from the unit, not the vent. They are unbelievably noisy, regardless of how well you have sealed the room.

Is that collection from a local store or for delivery? Seem to be plenty left for delivery (letting me get to checkout) and to be honest, the box is massive/heavy so I'd definitely opt for that over collection yourself especially as it's free
  9. rocky86's avatar
How much do you think it will roughly cost to run this unit by the hour?

    50p

Never had portable airconditioning. Anyone has experience with this one? thinking of purchasing it as wife is pregnant and wanted to prepare for the heatwave this summer as dont want her to kill me when she is hot and pregnant at the same time

Similar reason, I bought one so my partner doesn't wake me up to put the baby back to sleep

Nice! lol yeah the fact they call these portable is semi amusing how much / where did you get yours from? Heard good things about the delonghi units
  13. ahfh1's avatar
Bought this model 2 years ago. Did the job in a medium sized room and would recommend. Be warned that it's noisy, and big and heavy so make sure you have enough room to store it in the months it's not being used.

Thanks for the link, was looking for one of these.

Just to confirm, downloaded the app and the discount was applied at checkout, you don't need a code.

Chose delivery, came next day, it's heavy to get upstairs, but arrived in good condition, turned it on to check it works and it does, but won't know how well it cools until we have some warmer days.

Man, I've been avoiding the Russell Hobbs 11000 BTU deals (for around £200 mark) last year, thinking I would buy this year instead. But now same unit is like £400. This is a nice deal, but I hope there are some closer to £200 mark soon.

Yeah I know what you mean - I just have a feeling as soon as there's a whiff of warm weather, all the prices are going to go nowhere but up :/ I'm waiting for the comments "buy in winter, it's cheaper" but from looking at the prices.. it aint
  16. slliw's avatar
I went with a Delonghi one not sure if they are any good but quite expensive
    bbqpizza's avatar
Have you tried it out yet?
  17. benjos's avatar
I purchased this in 2021. Highly recommend it - cools my bedroom perfectly even in the peak of heat waves. I also can't get a proper seal on the window, so have air still able to get back in but this doesn't prevent it working well still. Yes it might not be as effective, but not an issue, the bedroom is still icey cold! Usually stick it on for a few hours in the evening and does the job nicely. It is noisy, but I like white noise when I sleep, so not an issue for me!

Cant fault Toolstation (thus far) - ordered yesterday, turned up today!
  19. Daft.Punk's avatar
Ordered for click and collect, was a complete numpty and didn't realise they were large and heavy. Managed to get them into the car but yeah...it was like moving a small fridge.

I've been eyeing these up since I missed a deal back in 2021, haven't set them up yet but I'm pretty confident they'll do the job.

Just want to add a couple of notes and I have a question if anyone can help.

The EER label says 64dB (website says 54dB)
In heat, auto and dry mode you cannot adjust the fan setting.

The manual under exhaust hose installation suggests there are two ways to heat, heat pump type and electrical heat type. Is this refering to a different machine or am I missing something?
  26. TM1233's avatar
I went for one also based on this dual hose thing. I hadnt realised a dual hose unit is more efficient. Just need to find out how to covert it!

After the eBay refund debacle on the homcom 9000 BTU this morning, this will do nicely instead! Plus a few cheeky BTUs for the extra £90
