Would this be a worthwhile upgrade over my current PC? Presumably I could chuck my GTX1070 in it?

Only really used to backup photos from phone, occasionally play DayZ and some light VR on Quest 2 headset.

Yes, you have now PCI Express 2.0 this one has 3.0, DDR3 vs DDR4, 2011 proc vs 2021 proc...

My only concern really would be the PSU. Considering they are charging you £20 to "upgrade" to a CIT 500W 80+ it has to be something truly awful... (edited)

I know nothing about pc’s but have been doing a bit of research.

would this be good as a starter pc that could be upgraded over time?

im guessing I could get this and add a gpu at some point? What else will I be able to upgrade in the future?

    For GPU's Adds;
    - Ensure that you select one of the higher psu in the promo, that TX550W is perfect, not only is it Gold, which means the conversion at the wall is best so it cost less, The corsair psu is a high tier level psu by corsair.

When u come to the GPU and u see "guides" as such as this GPU will need a 500/600/700w PSU, For the Quality of the TX550 ull be able to push that to easily 650w, with a tdp 65W CPU like the these.

There guidance take into considertion lots of PSU types, and its about the curve load.

so not talking about GPU that do run 650W, where talking recomendation on advertisement, it is 550W dont always assume all each model is the same, look into the specific brand as well.

the bad news it doesnt leave much room for headroom for the bigger cards then that, and that is where the BQ850W by these chaps comes in, however u wouldnt really want to push this cpu to that level anyways, TX550 by far enough to cover what it should do and push abit more, and there be some users on here will downplay what cards are 650W on the recomendation not with the psu but the cpu,

If you Youtube: 5600x vs 5600G 3060, one video u cant miss ull see what mainstream gains (marginal) from 5600G for the main cpu, there isnt a lot for a gpu at that area, but higher cards ofset more, 3060ti, 4060, 6700XT but with recent pricing on these GPU, its nice, most consumers trend, if one is doing 5600X one usual jumping the board to gain the full advantage of that cpu, and if ur on a tight budget 2 aspect jump could mean u cant afford the gpu u required, cos everyone is working on a budget, and the good thing about the 5600G its got the inital onboard, it covers folks who dont need the GPU at first, gives time to play with deals, or used market, and u can do some light gaming on it initial, the basic psu by default is as basic as they come as per any 5600G system "its pretty shite"(non pg site now right) but just like all the rest that charge more and u got option of getting rid of it; if u need to,

as for the cpu/board when it comes to upgrading this aspect, pull out the cpu/ram/board and sell it, next gen is improving so id do that, or u could add a used am4 cpu that is higher on the board, it is a520 so there is some limitation, but it is end of line, 1 / 2 year usage no problem, next gen will improve more.

some folks will go for the other 8500G via 1TB that be another £110, that offers the am5, so thats newer, more graphics upfront, higher speed cpu, ddr5 so on that u could take out the cpu from the board add in other cpu;s on that link u then do have the 7600 CPU, that has onboard graphics unlike the 5600/5600X that doesnt but its not as good the G CPU for graphical desires, but it does boot, if u had no graphical desire need now, and u want a system to use for cpu usuage, web usage, when u do add the gpu to that cpu, u are on main stream product that higher, where as both "G" am4 5600G / am5 8500G offers more graphical onboard system in laymen terms.

hope that helps. any other qs let me know. (edited)

Still trying to decide which way to go. If building my own:

    - GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2
    - Ryzen 5 5600X
    - AMD RX 6800 XT
    - 32GB Crucial Pro DDR4 RAM
    - 2TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD
    - Seasonic 750W Gold PSU
    - Corsair 3000D Case + Fans

Total comes to around £900. I don't think I'll be able to beat that with any of these built systems

If you can build your own then always do, these prebuilt systems are not good value. This is a £300 system which they have built for you but there profit comes from giving you a dodgy PSU
