I bought one recently absolutely brilliant jacket this is a good price I search for a good few weeks and cheapest I could find after Black Friday was £150

pat36a

Found the same size issues with their gilet range. Small too small, medium too big.

airbus330

As I said " Sounds like a try before you buy" (y)

rooney10

i would disagree as my physique is athletic/stocky and its a no go for me , not even close. It may fit someone less stocky around the chest/back but it'd be even more baggy for them around the arms .. I would assume that the ladies versions are a different cut. (y)

RRP for the 2018 version is £190 (which can be had for £171). £135 isn't great as retailers are clearing stock of a discontinued item. And shouldn't the deal be expired now the price has gone up so much?

terrestris

That's still a decent price - RRP for this is £190

IsitReal

Sizes still in stock but the price has gone up to £135!

I've worked in the fashion industry for a well known British shirt brand. For these run of the mill garments you pay big bucks for the name, not the materials. They choose to market the garments top tier. Some well known 'top tier' fashion brands prefer to destroy stock than have it go on sale.... it's a marketing strategy.

PalG

Why?

Mirola

Even at 50% still too overpriced

Is the Decathlon as warm for you as the Rab?

1982john

Yup no doubt that's warmer but also weighs a lot more. Just depends on what your needs are.

IsitReal

I only managed to try the Decathlon jacket in-store and found it to offer very little warmth. Also the negative reviews complain about what happens after you wash it - problems with down distribution. I found this jacket to be warmer although much puffier: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/ski-p-500-m-warm-jkt-navy-id_8493988.html

I like Rab mainly because of the fit - I have long arms and broad shoulders but a slim waist, and Rab clothes generally fit perfectly (although between different tops/jackets I need either medium or large with not much logic which). I find Berghaus, North Face etc too big in the body. Rab performance is excellent too. Bargains can be had from Go, Colswold and Ultimate from time to time (and web only places like webtogs and rock+run, although due to the sizing lottery returns are a price risk). If all else fails, Cotswold Outdoor give 10% off for memberships of a lot of local clubs, National trust, NUS etc.

Rab Nesbitt? Beat it!

Beamish

I Bought one of these almost a year ago. Its very light, warm and comfortable, packs down into a very small bag that comes with it. Mine has shed around a dozen small feathers in the time I've had it. My only very small gripe is that, with the hood down, the hood pulls the collar down at the back and to quote Del Boy, you get a George (Raft) on your Gregory (Peck) (y)

Yup its fairly easy. They unclip at the bottom then you have to unpull straps at the top, easily enough though. Personally I have a strap around that I use to tuck them in

bluntmachetti

It can, i do this all the time with my northface and mountain warehouse ones.

Yes this type of duffel bag can be folded flat. I have a couple of the North Face version, great for hand-luggage or when you don't want to take a solid suitcase somewhere.

But are you familiar with quantum sarcasm?

taffyjock1

Not familiar with sarcasm are you fella

bobbitchin

Always go down (er, hum) further than the advertised comfort range if you're taking a 'lady' with you and it's -3. Mine uses both four season sleeping bags -whilst I make do with whatevers left, lol - especially if you're an old fart like me - comfort zone ratings are generally rubbish gauges of comfort.

zhris

Two problems with those points. One, you only get one or two nights for your £179, this sleeping bag could last thousands. Two, one of the main reasons it's expensive is because it performs exceptionally well in the cold weather, at 0 degrees you will be perfectly comfortable. And I love a nice hotel holiday every now and then, but it's not any better than home, and nothing comes close to this:

taffyjock1

But for £179 I could sleep in a nice warm hotel room, out of the cold.

One great option is the Uniqlo down vest, or one of their other similar products. Obviously it won't have the quality or warmth of the Rab, but there isn't much in it to worry. I have also had great luck with China's offerings (AliExpress and eBay), for under £20, the jackets I have brought work well and have lasted. Finally, if you are using it for golfing, you might want to consider a different filling, primaloft instead of down. Primaloft will work considerably better in the damp and rain, you only sacrifice a bit of weight and logitivity, but it's cheaper.

damonb1

Love some option. Something suitable for golf?

DavidVonDavidson

A bit of a niche product. Great for hiking etc where you need to carry gear with you and weight and packability can be an issue. Only reason I would consider one. Otherwise there are much cheaper options out there.
