CEXs 2-year warranty is a scam. They do ANYTHING not to honour it; if they cannot find an intermittent fault in a 15-minute "test", then no go with any replacement or refund. I learnt that the hard way.

I had the same experience with them, twice. I'm going back a long time for the first experience, Samsung S4, which just died and would never come back on whilst I was in hospital for a week (really inconvenient as no communication w family and friends). They tested it for 15 mins (how I don't know as hard reset wouldn't even work) and said it's a software fault, we don't cover software faults. I owned it for 7 months, money gone.

Second time about 4 years ago was with a Huawei, the battery would die in half a day, even without using the damned thing, which happened within a week of owning it. They tested it for 30 mins, insisted they found nothing wrong, and said it was tested fully before sale and there's nothing wrong with it. We had to argue openly and publicly in front of other customers and refused to leave the store until refunded. That took an age, and it was maddening and unsavoury an experience. I refused to buy a mobile phone from them again since. As mentioned, they do everything they can to not take the item back.

How good is Grade B when you buy from Cex, can anyone please share their experience of buying a B grade phone from them?

I'm looking forward to buy Oppo Find X3 Neo from them.
    plewis00's avatar
Grade B for newly released phones is usually like new, for older phones, it’s variable - you best off buying and returning if no good and you can’t see in store.

Worst company ever. Bought a grade B phone from them and the day it arrived I got a new work phone.

I then was struck with covid so couldn't return within cooling off period. And because of my work phone I unboxed but never used the phone whatsoever.

Weeks later I thought I'd sell it back to them and the store classified it as a Grade C. WTF! I kicked and screamed down the place even knocking over 300 dvd cases in the process! Eventually they settled after refusing to leave.

The grading is all over the place. Service is shambolic.
Any excuse to not buy, scratch near charging port, at a slight angle this ipad looks bent etc all trash excuses.

Last time I bought a grade B S22 Ultra for my friend and I was given a generic, basic 1 amp charger and it was just bubble wrapped and not even boxed. Really really shoddy

Would love to have been a fly on the wall for the DVD cases moment.

Anyone got an idea how easy it is to unlock a phone these days?

    Especially the p30 Pro?

    Thanks
    ohsomeonenew's avatar
EE versions are very easy. You just go online and enter your IMEI, they unlock it immediately.

Received my fair condition pixel 6 from clove today. Some minor scratches on the screen but everything else seems fine. Still testing but Looks like a great deal for 190 (edited)
    Waveone's avatar
I ordered one too and it came today. It's better than I expected. One scratch on the screen in the middle about 2 mm long, not very deep but can't see any others even when looking really closely. There's also a similar one on the back of the phone in one of the bottom corners. Quite a few tiny nicks around the edges of the phone. They aren't deep but do show because the edges are black and the scratches show the silver underneath. Very slight scuffs along the edge of the protruding camera section. This is not on the lens but the metal edges similar to the sides of the actual phone.

Overall I'd consider it to be a lot better than a C grade and would say it's a B. Your mileage may vary though.

Anything vastly better than p20 pro in that list? Struggling to find something to replace it. 4.5 years old but still going strong.

    P30 Pro?

    Lovely upgrade

Biggest frustration with my current phone is the deterioration of the battery (xiaomi mi 9), a few hours of screen time and battery is dead pretty much now, though its had 3-4 years of constant use.

Puts me off buying second hand in case that happens soon after, as most of these are so hard to replace with a new battery. Not sure which phone to go for next.
    cullies's avatar
4 years is probably near the max life of a battery

Please recommend me a ~£200 Samsung refurb upgrade from my 5.5 year old Galaxy S8
    I_Gibbs_I's avatar
you'll probably be looking at a Samsung Galaxy a52s or a53 at that price refurbished

Avoid cex rip off merchants. Hubby bought a boxed computer mouse grade A cex cancelled sale relisted as grade B. He decided to rebuy believing it was just cosmetic damage according to description. Within minutes of it arriving, he discovered that connection wires missing so rendering it useless. After several emails later they decided that the wires were included. NO they wasn’t! Because he paid with store vouchers he has no way of claiming this money back. Lost money on a useless item. Poor quality service, poor customer service. No reasonable excuse given just said product was intact at time of sending. THIS IS NOT THE CASE!

Appreciate the time and effort in this!
Been looking to upgrade from a s10+.
Price of a screen repair forces me to look to upgrade.

Has anything caught your eye? I just cracked my s9+ but the latest samsung flagships not having headphone and sd card slots is a major turn off

I am surprised that many people had negative experience with CeX because i have been using them from last 7/8 years and never had a problem. Free delivery, easy return in local store and GRADE B was like Grade A in most purchases (edited)

    Why sue them then? 🤪

Pixel 6 sub £200 with 4 years of support left is just a madness but it's Google driving it with their push for market share of their new phones by deploying a combination of Xiaomi, DFS style perma-sale tactics with Samsung esque trade-in deals.

There's arguably never been a better time to buy a used (i)phone and then to immediately trade it in to invest in a new Pixel. (edited)

The only iPhones I have ever bought have gone straight into those Google envelopes

Did anyone buy fair condition pixel 6 from clove and received a good one?
    Raja007's avatar
Its luck. You may get good if lucky and may get heavy scratched if unlucky but price is worth taking risk if you dont hassle of returning

Looking for 12 pro max or 13 pro max

Same here, let me know if you find anything decent for either of these, or the 14promax

Taking a chance with pixel 6 from clove. They charge 8 for delivery. Use PREOWN3 for 3% off
    I_Gibbs_I's avatar
Which one did you go for? 'Fair' or 'Good'?
  21. jccage's avatar
Honestly, don't mess around with CEX. What you buy is what you get, their warranty is horrendous. Backmarket, TechTiger, Smartfonestore have been best for warranty for me (obvs depends on the seller on BM)
  22. dbzitb's avatar
    Was hoping for a s22 256gb for under £250

Anyone bought refurbished from Clove before? How did it go?

Amazon suck when it comes to mobile phones. They are not very reliable as they get 3rd party companies involved with it. Iv had my fill and won't be buying phones off them again.
  25. usernamemaynotbe's avatar
I’ve bought most of my phones from CeX and have been generally happy - it was best during my brief stint working for them as that 15% staff discount is pretty tasty. You can often find people selling vouchers online at a discount, or back in the day you could even find games to buy online for less than they’d give trade in (does anyone remember taking Poundland DVDs?)

I’ve returned an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 8 under warranty without issue, the iPhone 8 was about 20 months into the warranty and the speaker had gone, the chap said it sounded like the last few breaths of an old man, and I was promptly given current sale price back as a voucher, which I used about two thirds of to buy a grade B Huawei P30 which was as good as grade A, but CeX used to at least only give grade A if a phone came with all original accessories, and this was missing the headphones.

The only trouble is I still have the P30 over 3 years later and *nothing* comes close to it even now for less than about £500

The OnePlus 8T is a great phone. That was part of their best range. Pushed the specs for the money after the 7 range didn't go down as well
  27. sean_csc's avatar
Hot! Especially for huawei p30 pro and oppo find x3 neo
  28. ohsomeonenew's avatar
Has anyone unlocked Vodafone locked phones? Seems complicated compared to EE.
    Jimmyboy's avatar
Yes, what model are you looking at?
  29. Sharcs's avatar
Has anyone ordered from Clove before? They seem to have some crazy good prices but they also have a ton of bad reviews on review sites.
  30. Bader_Zaidan's avatar
Can anyone recommend anything with a good battery that's smaller in size and used?
  31. Bazzer55's avatar
Never used CEX and never will, always used Amazon, as virtually ALL phones are made in China I buy Chinese phones. At the mo I have a Ulefone Armor 14 Pro, this has a 10,000 ma battery with wireless charging running Android 12, 18 months warranty, running 8gb of ram, all for around £200 . Before this I have always had Blackview phones and NEVER had a problem.
  32. inanity's avatar
I wrote up several paragraphs and forgot to submit it, so I lost it all.. damn it. But the TL;DR was: CEX phones in my experience always come with a shot battery. I've had 4 phones from CEX - 3 had battery issues, and the other was the Nexus 5X with the bootloop. Just my experience. Your mileage may vary.. (edited)
    ohsomeonenew's avatar
Buying newer phones is better. I bought b grade iPhone 13 pro and It came with 100% battery health
  33. ana7mody's avatar
What's the latest android version on the P40 Pro?
    fishmaster's avatar
It will get get EMUI 13 which is Android 13. It lacks Google services so you'll need a workaround for that if you need those services.
  34. rocksoccer's avatar
My biggest concern with the devices is always the battery. Does CeX warranty cover the battery?
  35. aLV426's avatar
Heat added - thanks for sharing. I intend to get a Pixel <5 and leave it plugged it to act as a conduit for unlimited photo uploads, so I don't need one with a good battery or a perfect screen - but I am struggling to find one around £70 (Pixel 3,4 or 5 - as long as it powers on and you can make out the screen that's good enough for me!)
    Muhammad_Adeel's avatar
    Recently bought a 4a for £58 refurbished.
  36. BrianButterfield's avatar
I have a Pixel 5 for Graphene OS, the hardware itself is unremarkable.
  37. Pricexchecker's avatar
I've used Backmarket to buy refurbished phones for both my sons and myself, they are a French outfit I believe, they use third parties to provide the phones. I purchased a Pixel 5 January 2022 it was pretty much like new. Also got one of my boys phones repaired as he screen had bombed out as if it had been dropped which it hadn't. No issues with asking for repair, sent it off free and got it back within 5 days. I would recommend.
    p3108's avatar
What conditions did you select when buying them?
  38. 5hooey's avatar
Got a voucher for £133 but can't see anything worth buying.

My son needs a replacement phone and we want something with Samsung Dex.

But all the phones are a bit overpriced.

Then i thought about buying a tablet, but again they're overpriced.

If anyone is planning on buying something in the Teesside area, get in touch and perhaps we can do a deal.
    Vomit's avatar
CeX prices on Samsung stuff are silly right now. The S10 plus isn't terrible: uk.webuy.com/pro…=39

Still a powerful phone but updates are just coming to an end on it.

Is there a better phone with at least 3x telephoto and good battery life than the S20 FE?
