Just read terms and conditions quickly and can't see they have imposed any special terms for not allowing it to be put in a 4G router. Could be a cheap way of getting two years worth of Broadband?

Bought a zyxel 5g router from CEX and it has been running sweet for 3 months already
  2. TristanDeCoonha's avatar
No mention of the speed on their page, but if you go over your unlimited data limit they charge extra.
    scoutnetworker2020's avatar
Just not true, i use terabytes each month and no slowing down of extra costs

For info I took out this deal last week. The sim is in a £100 CEX Huawei 5g router. Getting 300-400 mps download but only 3-6 mps upload. So great for streaming but only barely manageable for video calls.

I'd suggest this is a better buy, its the Zyxel NR5103E that 3 use, just without the retail paperwork inside the box.I paid £116 including taxes, took 19 days to arrive. UK plug and unlocked, currently using a £3 30 day Lyca unlimited data sim purchased on eBay and works fine

Thinking of ordering this sim from three, anyone can comment if ordering is smooth or something needs to be lied? Obviously i dont have any business but i managed to get 2x sims for £3/mnth 2 years ago which is coming to an end in feb 2024. Anyone had any luck extending that offer? If not would three automatically cancel the contract or i need to contact them, i am tempted to see if they continue if i dont make the unnecessary noise. Please comment

Just say you are a sole trader, and it will let you sign up.
  9. steve123uk's avatar
I'm already on 3 unlimited SIM for home WiFi (£20 a month) and out of contract

So essentially as I'm also a sole trader I can get this and use it in the router instead? (edited)
    scoutnetworker2020's avatar
yep, thats what i do, and now have an extra £14 a month to spend on fruit gums!! :-)

Depending upon speeds and signal etc what one use this fir at home, as don't really see it as a substitute for the home fibre
    Crashcox1's avatar
I get a solid 600mbp down and 40mbps up. I pay £6 a month it’s far better value then fibre
  11. screamingninja's avatar
Really happy now I have this up and running. I'm in a non-indoor 5g area, where i struggle to get 5g outdoors. With router sat on top of my fridge, I'm getting between 120 and 350Mbps download speeds, depending on time of day.
    innocent's avatar
If you don't mind me asking, do they send the sim by ordinary post or courier where you have to sign for it! I am asking just in case I am not available to collect. Thanks.

We've had several three data only simcard for 2 year's.. no restriction, no concerns.. 1Gbs speed at our address as near a mast .. as a sole trader, have been using it on a 5G hub.

One one of the sales people put through a unlimited text, data and calling sim for 6 quid, as well. Oops. A deal that Didnt exist. (edited)
    IzOn's avatar
Wow did you contact them on live chat to get them to add the mins and calls? Thanks
  13. FriesWithThat's avatar
Well, many many muchas thanks to the op for posting this deal. SIM arrived the next day. My eBay purchased 3 Zyxel Hub arrived today. Popped the SIM into the bottom. Plugged into the mains and Bob's your uncle. I didn't have to phone anyone. Didn't have any problems at all. I still can't believe how easy this was and I'm left wondering why the heck I didn't do this before.
I've gone from 5Mbs and £26,/month with Sky BB to 200Mbs for £6/month. Wow, wow and thrice wow!
    Pete_Venkman's avatar
Yeah the only thing is the upfront cost of buying a 5g router but apart from that it's a no brainer

Been testing the sim today in a 5g phone and was getting crap indoor speeds as expected as 5g indoors is poor unless you have a good router.

Outdoors I was getting 200mb and minutes from my house i was getting up to 400mb.

Just waiting on the router to arrive Mon or Tue

    My Virgin disconnects on Thursday

"Each April, your Monthly Charge will increase by 4.5%".

Weird that they do not appears to be adding RPI/CPI on top ? (edited)
    Stageshoot's avatar
Three dont do RPI/CPI increases on Broadband only sims.. there is the 4.5% but a lot better than the RPI+ 4.5%! rubbish

Any recommendations for a good MOBILE 5g router? i.e. One that could be charged and used out and about ?

    Something like this

ZTE MU5120 – the most powerful portable 5G WiFi hotspot, huge 10000mAh battery, 18W reverse charge, NFC, 2.4” touch screen, connects 64 devices – Sim Slot UNLOCKED amzn.eu/d/4…lpX (edited)

I'm sure everyone aware of three network going down for most of Friday.

Ever since 10pm last night once the network came back for me

My speeds have shot up all the way to 420mbps

Upload to 10 to 18 mbps
  18. Robiesanta's avatar
So, is this a cheap way to get Wifi at home?
    AndyRoyd's avatar
Cheap way to get unlim internet wherever the sim (+ your device) can receive the carrier's signal.
  19. Siddy's avatar
I've got 2 sims at £6 total for both and hasn't gone up in 19 months.

Couldn't add these the last time round and don't know what price the £6 will be after Feb 24 when 24m runs out.
    kaps2804's avatar
I am also in same boat, someone in original 2 month old thread asked three and they said that the £3 offer could continue after 24m too,
  20. FriesWithThat's avatar
Voted hot. I've just ordered one. All I need now is a router to use it in. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
  21. RedXI's avatar
Is it possible to transfer an existing number to one of these?

"Price includes a £5 monthly discount for paying by a recurring method, such as Direct Debit."

    So it's originally £11 p/month? (edited)
    Myriad's avatar
Yes you can it asks on the order form if you want to
  22. Loko1932's avatar
Maybe someone with a knowledge could advice if ZTE 5G Mobile Wi-Fi Router (MU5001) is a good choice and if it's something that will work, is it a good idea to keep it plugged in at all time?

Wasn't sure as I'm on the edge of the 5G coverage in my area but I did order one anyway. (edited)
    RahulVinayak's avatar
I use that ZTE router, works fine with 3 on 5G signal. Plugging in all the time might not be a good idea. I have put it on a timer switch switching a charge throughout the day for few hrs. (edited)
  23. emgala86's avatar
Does anyone know how long you have to activate the SIM card after you receive it?
    AndyRoyd's avatar
Auto-activation; there is no option for customer activation, probably as it is a (business) contract not some consumer pre-pay/PAYG.

The terminology used by the provider at point of delivery is (quote):
Your order was delivered on dd/mm/yyyy to:
    nn postcode, GBR
    Here's your order number: nnnnnnnnnn
The minimum term of your plan will start from your delivery date.

trying to get my head around using this as second sim in My samsung S21 Ultra. If I use this for Data under settings (SIM 2) will apps like Whats app use the telephone number assigned to this SIM 2 ??
    bengalknights's avatar
No they won't unless you reverify
  25. Kushdy's avatar
Is 3's 5G Mobile coverage different to it's 5G broadband?

May seem like a daft question but according to their coverage map I can get 5G mobile but not 5G broadband. (edited)
    Pete_Venkman's avatar
It's a weird one indeed and I had the same issue when looking at three home broadband vs sim only

When I first looked into three home broadband yrs ago my post code was eligible for 5g home broadband

Now when I looked recently it's showing not available which is rubbish.

As I tested this business sim around my niegbourboud and it clearly works but not it's top speed.
  26. blinder's avatar
I’ve charged £7 for first month what is everyone else being charged? TIA
    ilepak's avatar
My bill was for £6.88. I checked my account online and it seems the excess is because it included a part month. My sim was activated on 8 Nov and the billing cycle seems to be the 11th.
  27. Majid401's avatar
I think I got the answer for Data Cap. There's no cap if used within UK. Cap apies when roaming pony.

    So enjoy...

How long did it take for tcb to show, for those who ordered

-edit- tracked overnight at £62 (edited)

There is no cashback with this as it's business

No business sim options in tcb or quid

  30. taiko.786's avatar
so i took this out 3 months ago , they charged me £6.40 first month and next month £19.50 and this month they want to charge £24 ..... anyway on online chat to them as we speak.
would have challenged it last month but was away for 6 weeks.

Did you buy this deal online or over the phone?
  31. welshblob's avatar
Anyone managed to sign up to Three rewards with this data only sim? It mentions needing a voice service although it is open to business users. They have also mentioned trying to bring rewards to broadband users but doesn't look like its available yet.
    MrFizzy's avatar
Strictly speaking, this isn't a data only SIM i.e. it can be used for voice and texts as well. It's just that these services are not included in the contract and hence you pay for them as you use them. You will note that you do get a telephone number.
  32. desi's avatar
Did anyone else receive email about cancellation of contract after sim activation and first payment? :/ 🤐
    MrFizzy's avatar
I did but then I realised it was because I'd put one in my basket earlier and then not completed the purchase. When I checked the account numbers I realised the cancellation message didn't relate to my actual live contract.
  33. innocent's avatar
Successfully signed up for this deal (bending the truth a wee bit, please don't ask!)
Seemed like a bargain for £6 pm for unlimited data, although connectivity remains to be seen until after I receive the sim card.
Now a simplistic question for people in the know. Do you have to give notice near end of 24 months to terminate the contract or does it finish by itself? Thanks in advance.
    x123's avatar
No service contract will “finish by itself”, you’ll have to give notice or PAC/STAC the number to terminate.
  34. jaju123's avatar

  35. Aiadi's avatar

if you are a "Ssole Trader" then yes
  36. atone107's avatar
Got this the last time the offer was posted. Absolute nightmare getting the sim to arrive and customer service is a joke.

The only issue I have with the sim is that no roaming means you can’t download torrents really as speed gets throttled.

Other than that it’s a good deal. (edited)
    andylol's avatar
What has roaming got to do with torrents?
  37. Crowberry's avatar
Thanks and bought. But £4.99 shipping is a bit daft. Nevertheless… 😜

  39. Kushdy's avatar
I think 3 do very extensive checks when considering who gets one and who doesn't.

Mine was approved almost immediately, probably because I told them that I work as a professional dolphin shaver.
  40. Dealodino's avatar
good deal, but Customer Service is the worst. They are still chasing me for cash, when my account has been closed and confirmed as not owing anything - for the three router I returned. And I think they have impacted my credit score.

    Avoid like the plague IMO.
    jhw's avatar
Customer Services for business is based in Ireland - totally independent from the usual Three customer services. But they're equally as useless - they never return calls, take months to sort out problems. I had a problem last year with a Spend Cap set to £0, yet they started charging for going over the data limit - took them 4 months to put it right. (edited)
