What puzzles me is why no reviewer raised that issue. Every single review says that the phone is buttery smooth. And no, I'm not talking about 60hz set as default.
I don't know, maybe S20FE set the bar too high, as it's still such an excellent phone. S23 is better than this Pixel no doubt. The only reason I took Pixel is that excellent price, so I thought I'll try something new as I always use Samsung. So far, I don't think that phone can compete with Samsung. But let me use it for a couple of days.
EDIT: Update after 24hr:
Right, so I will be returning it, that phone and all hype around it is a joke IMO. It can impress only somebody coming from some really old phone, from 60hz and old Exynos era. If you were using anything modern, like S20FE, OnePlus 8 etc. you will most likely be disappointed. A couple of opinions after 24hr of use:
-The phone is jittery in most scenarios, you just feel it like it was some 5 years phone (which essentially it is with that processor). It’s not only my opinion, check google, loads of posts complaining about that. What is very suspicious is that only GSM Arena picked that up from big reviewers, fair play to them and shame to others, because that jittery issue is noticeable straightaway
-Screen – unbelievably washed out colours and you can`t even change them, as the system has got only 2 settings (Natural and Adaptive), both look pretty much the same. The colours are getting better only in high brightness which means that you will be burning your eyes and battery if you want to have a nice screen. In realistic settings, and indoor use, colours are just pathetic. Again, check google, not only me complaining about that
-Around screen again – when you tap the screen, it has got a very cheap feeling, like it was plastic and the phone was hollow. Again, comparing to my old S20FE, its a day and night difference, taping on S20FE just makes a very solid impression
-Speakers – very good, no complaints here
-Haptic – very good, no complaints
-Battery – it’s been only 24hrs but seems pathetic. 30% left and 3h50min SOT without SIM installed on WiFi. Ok, the phone had to download all aps at the beginning which obviously affected that battery reading but that still doesn’t change the fact that it’s pathetic. My S20FE when it was new, would get 8hr SOT without SIM installed on WiFi. I don’t believe in all AI BS that will suddenly make that battery great. No, it is either great out of the box, or it will never be great.
-Pixel Launcher – that is a huge disappointment. I can’t believe how OneUi got so much better than pure Android. There is a couple of really stupid ideas, like fixed search bar on the bottom of the screen. You can’t move it or remove it. There is few more “clever” ideas that I won’t even bother pointing out.
-Camera – good but I cant see any difference between it and S20FE. Low light is worse on Pixel than Samsung
-It feels very good in hand, the size is right, the weight is right, the quality is right (except the screen I mentioned above)
Overall it’s a huge disappointment and I cant believe how this phone can get such positive reviews. Except camera, that phone can compete with Samsung A54 at best. It is a midrange phone and should be sold for £429 – 128gb / £489 – 256gb on google site. Yet they charge £699 – 128gb buahahahahahaha.
I have been using Samsung for years, S6, S9, S20FE. But I wanted to try something new. I remember I had LG Nexus in the past, what a great phone that was, it was Pixel back then from google. Top phone, set new standards. Thought I will try Pixel 8 as it seemed to tick so many boxes. Well, I was so wrong... I need to get S23, I had it in my basked few weeks ago when it was for £699 – 256gb on Amazon few weeks ago. With cash back, trade in and free buds it would be pretty much the same price and Pixel, but Samsung does it better in absolutely every aspect. (edited)
Posted as a deal but it was merged with this.
And anyone trying to help out, you can get codes from both totum and student beans (edited)
There is then another batch who ordered a little later who are still at the security stage which should change tomorrow.
Finally those who ordered later still will be waiting on more stock at the end of the month.
This I believe is the current state of play but due to how many people have ordered there is the potential to see a number of orders cancelled tomorrow.
