5G Home Broadband gives you faster speeds for heavier streaming. It also means you get less lag for your gaming and increased capacity for multiple users. Our 5G hub is perfect for busy homes with lots of screen time going on.

Our 5G (https://www.three.co.uk/5g) is super-fast! As our 5G service is transmitted over the air, the speeds you will receive can vary due to a number of factors such as your location, the number of users in your area, the position of your router in your home and local geography. With a 30-day money back guarantee you can see how fast our service is, worry-free.

Can I get Unlimited data on a Home Broadband deal?
Yes - as much data as you’ll ever need with a 4G hub or 5G hub. And you don’t need a landline or fibre optic cable to get connected, because our wireless broadband uses our network signal. We’ve got loads of unlimited data Home Broadband deals, for Pay Monthly and Pay As You Go plans.

Is there a Home Broadband set-up fee?
Our Broadband only deals come with no upfront costs if you choose a 4G or 5G home hub, or Pay Monthly data SIM only deal. If you choose Broadband on Pay As You Go, you’ll need to pay an upfront fee.

If you’re buying a tablet, you may be asked to pay an upfront cost depending on the device and the data plan you choose.

Can I get Home Broadband without a landline?
Yes. Our 4G and 5G Home Broadband hubs don’t require a landline as the routers use our mobile network. Discover our Broadband only (https://www.three.co.uk/broadband/home-broadband/broadband-without-landline) deals to strengthen your at-home connections.

How do I switch to Three Home Broadband?
It’s really easy to switch your Home Broadband to Three. Call your current provider to see your options for cancelling, then order your Home Broadband right here, or in your local Three store (https://locator.three.co.uk/search). You can be online with us the next working day.

Make sure to do some sustained downloads of files after 6pm and at the weekends. I get crazy speeds at my house but had to cancel due to that.

Don't buy three. I was getting 300/500 mb for the first 3 months. Then it dropped like a brick to 8mb. 2mb some evenings. Spoken to them, complained, managed to get out of the contract early with no fees.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE TAKING THIS OUT!

I took up one of these home broadband contracts with Three last month, speed wasn’t as good as my current fibre and not as reliable so cancelled within a day or two of receiving (30 day cooling off with home broadband). I struggled for almost a week or two to get them to send me a returns bag and then eventually after calling, web chat and sending a letter to inform them of my intention to cancel, I received one int the post. Posted it through the pre paid Royal Mail returns bag and was shown as delivered 2 days later. Fast forward a week, I get an email threatening me with a charge of £105 for non return of equipment. I have been on numerous calls, web chats and registered a complaint even though I was being told that I should not worry, they can see I have requested for cancellation, they can see package has been delivered, but the department in charge for returns has not processed it. It has now been over the 30 days cooling off period, I have lodged a complaint with The Communications Ombudsman who have just told me today that Three have contacted them and told them that because the minimum period of 6 weeks hasn’t elapsed then the complaint has to be closed. On the same day (today) I have received another email off Three saying that my returns window has now closed and that they haven’t received the equipment and that the contract is now continuing and charges may be applied to my account. The complaint I lodged with Three was acknowledged and then closed within 14 minutes. This was how long the emails sent to my inbox are apart from each other. At this moment in time my contract is still running, it is showing as open on my credit file and I am unsure as to when they are going to close my account. If you’re unsure whether this will work for you then please don’t sign up!

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Not sure you had to add that to the deal information.

I did the same as you. I cancelled & returned the router. No issues at all. In fact I still got £30 Quidco

Any recommendations for alternative 5g routers to buy with a SIM card instead of this?
    KodaBear's avatar
The one pictured here is actually one of the better ones - ZyXEL NR5103. You can pick them up at CeX with a 2 Year warranty.

The other model I would personally recommend is the ZTE MC801A/MC888

These both support WiFi 6, Support a good range of network bands, have decent sized antennas internally to help signal and speeds, and have plenty of settings menus to play with if you want to tweak things.

If you go down the Huawei route be careful. The earlier models don't support the full range of network bands used in the UK, and some of them will be hard locked to the Three network too.

I had this for only 2 months
Took out a contract for 12 months with the first 3 months free line rental.
First 3 weeks we was getting speeds between 64mbs to 310mbs speeds from the 4th week that dropped to 14mbs to 34mbs. Was on the phone to them for 2 weeks everyday telling them how bad it was , our kids homework was suffering with not good enough internet. Eventually last week we canceled the contract after speaking to many managers. Never ever again. Went with EE Home broadband and the difference is massive.

What they seem to do is give you the top speeds while on cooling period then go downhill from there (edited)
    dbnhants's avatar
I can confirm this…a few people I know took out these contracts for their static caravans and were raving about the speeds they were getting…but after a few weeks their speeds were pathetic

I was on this earlier in the year, new house and very bad ADSL (Sub 25 meg). It was great at first, router delivered next day so almost no lack of internet and speeds were great (semi-rural) 300 down, 40-50 up. Great, then 3 months passed and I was lucky to get 30 meg at any time (I WFH so noticed this drop instantly). I worked with Three for over a month, but in the end left. Luckily I didn't sign upto a contract, just month by month (at a bit of an extra cost). Heard lots of similar stories of higher users being heavily traffic managed (like this) even though Three denied it. Now with Virgin as they rolled out in between , Solid 500 down and 40 up (I think).

If you have a business there is a fiver a month unlimited sim only broadband deal on threes website. Add that to one of the £150 routers on eBay that seem to be ones customers returned to three when they discovered the service was so rubbish they cancelled the contract.

By the way, the latest router that this deal links to is the NR1503E MK2 that has less antennae than the original one shown in the picture above. Probably not a big deal....
    Bendown's avatar
Got one of those sims, in my phone the sim struggles to achieve 5meg, not sur if putting the sim in a route with aerials would give me a better speed
  8. Mubs's avatar
I had a three 4g sim card for 3 years. Pretty good speeds.
I put my 30d notice in to terminate contract and the speed tanked immediately.
The kicker is, I was replacing the sim with another three sim card purchased as a new customer, the sim was inserted into the same router.
I instantly started getting sky high speeds the moment I put the new sim card in.
    Same network, same router.
This was nothing more than traffic management.
It appears customers who are on their notice period get the lowest priority service.
    Bad business ethics.

Don't do it. Here's my review from a few months back. It was a horrendous experience.

"Ah, Three Broadband. If it works for you, great. Download speeds are often fabulous and Three's owners CK Hutchison are spending a lot of money upgrading many locations to 5G.

Best of luck trying to cancel with these absolute jokers if you aren't happy with your service however!

I had a horrendous time with them personally. Joined in February 2023. Called to cancel within 30 days as the upload speeds weren't good and the router needed a daily manual reboot. It took them ages to send me the returns label. Had to call three times over 7 days for them to send it. I was worried about not receiving the returns label as it was coming up to the end of their 30 day returns policy and I didn't want them coming back to me saying it was too late to return. Eventually it was sent, so I packed up the device, took a photo of the parcel and sent it back. Kept a copy of the DPD receipt. Constantly checked the DPD tracking and when I saw it was received by Three, I thought nothing of it at that point.

A month went by and had a text saying my bill was due. No payment was needed as I was originally on a three months free offer but called to query this anyway and was told it was 'nothing to worry about'. She took the reference number from my DPD receipt and said no further contact needed. I was skeptical. And for good reason.

As further months went by I kept on receiving warning texts and emails saying my account was falling into arrears. I kept calling them each time for them to later state they never received the router back despite me giving them the reference number from DPD proving it was received at their returns office on time. They even once had the cheek to ask me to contact DPD as it was lost with them despite it clearly showing as received and signed for at Three.

Early August, I had an alert from Credit Karma. June and July were updated as missed payments by Three and this caused my credit score to immediately drop dramatically. Also checked my Experian credit file to find the same score drop.

I immediately raised a complaint with Three via their website who took around ten days to call me back. When they called me back, I was horrified to hear them ask for the reference number from the tracking again and asked me to contact DPD. The tracking number was provided within the complaint webform! When I contacted DPD they said they had fulfilled their obligation and it had clearly been signed for at the receiving end so it had to be only Three to resolve the matter. I was stern but polite, but insisted that they must resolve the complaint. They said they'd further contact me within 7 days as they'd need to check with the backend team.

No contact was made by them so I went on their webchat a few days ago to firmly assure them that I will be taking this matter to the ombudsman should this not be resolved within a timely matter due to the detrimental effect on my credit file through no fault of my own. An hour passed, and the agent agreed to finally cancel the contract down fully but seemed to have a tone as if Three were doing me a favour on this occasion. I queried of course the credit file issue but he insisted he'd raise a report with the credit file team to get the derogatory markers removed within 30 days. No-one in the right mind would blame me at this point for being a little doubtful. Should the markers not be removed in that time I will contact the ombudsman and CK/Experian/Equifax to raise a notice of correction.

Over the years I have been a Three customer on and off ever since the brand launched on 3rd March 2003. Generally they've been great; but my experience in 2023 with them has been nothing short of horrifying. I won't actively consider them again. If I did want to go back, I'd only consider an MVNO of theirs like Smarty that doesn't affect your credit file and a plan you can easily cancel online.

What a bunch of cowboys. I now shudder whenever I see a TV ad of theirs."

That's your first mistake going with the three network their network is so congested that the luck of fools couldn't help you.

If you can get out of it do it

What I did luckily Vodafone is very strong in my country home but no ftth yet

So I ordered the voxi unlimited SIM for £10 called for now plan. I didn't qualify but my sis did

Next the router I got was a gl.inet router can't remember the name of it but it is a 5g router with multiple antennas which one thing was a must is the ability to add a high gain outdoor antenna so you can up the signal from outside into the router which is vast improvement on the standard internal aerial and with openwrt software Incan setup VPN tunnels

You will have to solder the aerial wires to the board but this is easy enough

Then finally on a ladder you go and find the sweet spot.

All in all I get around 125mb speed as to £40000 quote for ftth

    Same here.
I finished 24 months contract end of Nov.
    PAC out to cancel it.
I contacted Three twice and request for postal bags for returning the router.
2 weeks now, no bags turn up.
I am not going to chase them. I have the chat record in case they decide to charge me

Is this any good for gaming ?
    KodaBear's avatar
Totally depends where you are. Some areas are fantastic and this will beat anything else you can get in your house. Other areas this will be awful.

If you have a phone on Three you can test to get a rough idea of network performance. Otherwise you’d just have to order this, try it, and cancel if it’s no good.

You got a direct to basket link to bypass the area check?
    nadnerb's avatar
Put in one that you know has 5G, then at checkout get it delivered to your house.
But just be warned, if Three don't list your postcode as in a 5G area then you won't have a leg to stand on if any issues arise as you bypassed their coverage checks. Even if you can see 5G on your mobile from your house right now, Three may not have the bandwidth/reliability to supply a satisfactory service for home broadband, hence why they don't offer it.

Is 3's coverage not utter dog food still?
    KodaBear's avatar
Totally depends where you are. If you live somewhere with good service they are the UK’s fastest network for 5G speeds with speeds well in excess of gigabit.

In other areas it could slow to a crawl and barely have any signal.

The website will only let you buy if it thinks you’ll get a decent experience though.

I have 3 5g broadband at mine. I did this a different way for the tech minded and it's worked brilliantly.

I brought a second hand (or rather ex display) 5g phone, a usb c to ethernet adapter (£6), and an eero router/hub and hooked it all together (£90 for the phone (many people may have an old phone available), and £40 for the eero off eBay). So 130 upfront. I was initially using a 16pm smarty SIM for a few months to test, then got a £6pm 3 unlimited data SIM.

The eero covers my whole house just fine, and I only pay £6/pm with setup it will cost me £280 for 2 years, and I don't have to send anything back, I can take my broadband with me if and when I should desire, and I'm not tied into a 2 year contract 🤷

Just an option for the tech minded. (edited)
    Eddie's avatar
I was going to do this with an old 5g phone and a Three business sim, but decided to get a gl inet Spitz AX, as the reception is much better. Tbh, I'd rather sell an old phone for 100 quid and put it towards a decent router.

All the parts you list are more expensive if you consider the opportunity cost of not selling the phone.
  19. firth_face's avatar
Can anyone enlighten me on how good their 4G speeds are for this deal, please? Popped in yesterday and only 4G coverage is in my area.
    KodaBear's avatar
As with all other mobile broadband connections, it's totally variable from one location to the next.

If you have a phone on the Three network it will help give you a rough idea by running a speed test on that at home. Otherwise you'll have to just order it, try it out, and cancel under the cooling off period if it's no good for you.

4G Speeds could be barely 1Mbps, all the way up to almost 300Mbps, and anywhere in between... Depending upon a whole range of conditions.

Where I live. 4G is about 1-3Mbps on Three on average. Where my friend lives about 2 miles up the road he has a 4G+ Hub from Three which consistently delivers over 100Mbps, often closer to 150. And having tried 5G there it's in excess of gigabit speeds most of the time too... It really depends.
  20. Tariqa72's avatar
    Warning !
I was suckered into a deal similar to this several months ago £20 p/m with first 3 months free.
It is so unreliable. Lately has been going offline every evening when the support line is unavailable conveniently after several restarts or leaving it till the morning it's working again.
Checking the three service page online sometimes says there is an issue in the area other times no issues listed.
    Stuck in 2 year contract.
For broadband it's not worth messing about with these cheap deals. It's great when working nearly 300 down and 30 up.
But I would rather have the reliability over speed really as you can't do without internet in the home these days. All devices stop working, consoles, computers, phones, smart devices and hubs.
    Lesson learnt from me.
    greg666's avatar
Thats exactly my thought, well said.
  21. flamethrower's avatar
May be your get better speads if you keep the hub in the loft.
24 months is too long, I've never signed up for a contract longer than 12 months. (edited)
    welshblob's avatar
I find its better next to a window in a specific orientation.

I signed up to the £6 per month unlimited business 5G with three for 24 months and bought my own 2nd hand router from CEX. It should cost me about £277 for 24 months (excluding any in contract rises every April) and I think I own the router (unclear where they come from re CEX) or will claim under CEX's warranty period which is also 24 months. Yes I took the risk on the 24 month contract but its only £6 and I get 300Mbps+ down at my house and 20Mbps up.

If you have a good 5G signal go for it. Signed up for this last Christmas and couldn't be happier with the stable and fast WiFi! Luckily never needed to contact Three customer service as they are really bad (had mobile contract before)

    COLD COLD COLD!

Absolutely avoid for the sake of your sanity! I've had mobile with them for over 15 years, and always been quite evangelical about how good and cheap they are, but when my contract ends in Feb, I'm off. Completely fed up with them.

The speed was OK, but the customer service was, and continues to be, terrible. I cancelled months and months ago and returned the modem. Three confirmed this, but they're still charging me and continue to add to my bill every month.

They've had some big system 'upgrade' and it's complete chaos, at least when dealing with my account.

I've spoken to multiple CS reps who have confirmed that I don't actually owe them money, but it seems that no-one can stop their systems from billing me...

Three think I owe them £250 and yesterday they sent me a message saying I must clear outstanding debts.

I'm now worried that they're going to send bailiffs.
    Niz's avatar
I would check your credit score, you'll know if they've left a non payment mark, they do it automatically, o2 did it to me after I paid off their contract, no comms I only found out after being rejected credit card. Had to call up o2 and chased for months to get it removed.

5G home broadband can be good and save money, but unlike landline broadband it can hide behind reception issues where as landline broadband have to provide minimum consistent download speeds.
    Eddie's avatar
    tell that to Virgin customers
  31. Tina893's avatar
Just in case anyone is struggling with the coverage checker not allowing you to take the deal - if you visit your local store they can bypass and honour this to still give you the 5G router. Might work for those in rush too as you get the hub right away as opposed to waiting for DPD to deliver which due to their holiday closures is 27-28th ATM. They can also then offer you an Unlimited Sim for your phone for 12.50£ pm in case you are considering a switch on your phone too. (edited)
  32. Cuddl3s's avatar

I bought an unlocked Three branded Zyxel NR5103E from eBay for £189 in September (Grade C condition but arrived as new) and have a Smarty (Three) £16pcm unlimited SIM as I wanted to own the device and have the flexibility to change providers if the service wasn't good enough when we moved house. Not as good as this deal if you're happy to lock into a long-term contract.
  34. arb_uk's avatar
can I extend the WiFi coverage using BT WholeHome Discs or is that no no? I have WiFi coverage issues so can't rely on just the router in the loft.
    cantonbean's avatar
Yes you can. You can either just turn the WiFi off on the router or with a lot of mucking around get it into modem only mode (by contrast very easy to do with other brands). Personally I'd use the WiFi discs in access point only mode if you can and let the router do the routing.
  35. idoor's avatar
Careful regarding signal availability. I live in East London on the 6th floor with lots of free space around and I had absolutely abysmal 5G performance on Three. Then I got the same router on EE and it was great.
  36. baladar's avatar
I trialled this and had better speeds after tinkering with band locking on the configuration. Returned the router, bought my own outright with the business SIM and and happy.

I will say that it took almost three months for me to get it properly cancelled and get my final bill though.

Almost at the end of our two year contract with Three (on this set up) and have mixed feelings about the service (as do my children!) Installation is easy, download speeds are generally pretty good and it is relatively cheap if I compare to fibre. However, upload speed is nowhere near as good and latency is dodgy. However, biggest bugbear is the reliability of the service. At certain times of the day it drops out. Sometime restarting the router will fix this but mostly you just have to be patient and wait (anything from 5 mins to 30 mins). Lately, reliability has been worse. I have learnt to live with this, but I doubt I will renew the contract and I'll make the switch to fibre (any recommendations on the city fibre network in Reading gratefully received). I believe that up to 24 devices can be connected to my router (ZTE mc801a) and I'm over this stated amount (Echos, Drayton Wiser system, TVs, mesh systems, phones, lights etc!) so maybe problems are self inflicted! I believe 65 devices can be connected to the new router. I have contacted Three on several occasions and I have found them to be generally helpful. (edited)
  39. bcs1's avatar
This is a good deal. But just bear in mind if you do need to cancel, expect to get numerous bills, chasers for money threatening credit impact, and have to make tons of phone calls spending hours on the phone to Three to get it all sorted. I returned this within the cooling off period in early October and have hopefully finally sorted this out today. But it's not the first time I've thought that and been wrong
One of the reasons I cancelled was the fact that the IP address changed frequently - for most this wouldn't be an issue but for me it was. When Virgin called me with a good offer to stick with them, I decided to do so. (edited)
