Terrible Network & Customer Service, caution to all thinking of dealing with this Network

I disagree, the free EU roaming saves me SO much money! O2 priority freebies are great as well

If I buy it now will it go up in April?
    Matt538's avatar
Actually doesn’t look like this April will count

Been with O2 for a few years now but changing mainly due to awful coverage. Don’t know what they’ve done but considerably worse than what it once was.
    KodaBear's avatar
They merged with Virgin Media, brought in all the Virgin Mobile customers, then brought out Volt benefits to incentivise even more people to sign up for O2 SIM Cards, and kept signing new deals for other brands to piggyback on their network like Sky who is now expanding in popularity too.

The result is a network that’s being pushed to the absolute limits of its capacity and nowhere near enough investment to keep up with the demands for upgrading the infrastructure.

Anyone know the process for getting this for existing SIMO customers? Not very hukd of me, but I've left my contract roll over the past year and ate up 2 April price rises...
    BigBoss85's avatar
Click on the link and sign in. Takes you straight to the deal. Worked for me.

Genuinely agree! I had O2....shocking! Barely any network coverage anywhere in UK. When visiting some big cities it was okay, but elsewhere it was awful. Weirdly though when using abroad, it was really fast! Got 5G! But what's the point if it barely works anywhere in the UK??!!
Unless they improved since a year ago, don't fall for O2 cheap prices and stay away from them. I found decent coverage on EE, Three, Vodafone, Lebara, ID Mobile.

Where I live, O2 is the only reliable mobile provider, not sure if it is the hills around me, but I seem to be in a black spot for signal. Their 4G speeds aren't great sometimes, but other than that, not had an issue with them. Perks are ok too given how much cheaper they are compared to say EE.

Great SIGNAL in most places, but you will more often than not be staring at full reception bars on your phone and an "unable to load page" error on your browser.

If you are in an area with even the slightest large crowd, forget it for anything usable.

Priority is also a pale imitation of what it used to be.

Getting through to Customer Services is also almost impossible. (edited)

O2 is only good for roaming and if you got Virgin Media it extends roaming to some extra European countries for free.

If you don’t care about this stay away from this network. I hope smart meters used EE instead of this poor reception network
    Meltigemini's avatar
If you have Volt benefits you can also use your phone in some non EU countries too like USA, Canada and Australia. Pretty good really. Reception is great in my area too.

Great tariff offer for 12 months. Took it and applied as upgrade to my 12M contract in it’s last month cycle. I was weary to whether the April price rise will kick it, as information about it in deal description even in basket stage said April 2025 only, but the contract pdf in email stated April 2024. So after a week the banner in top of account page warning of increase has gone, so I hope there is no worry about anymore. Cheers!

I have been with O2 for years and largely they are fine. However there are times when you have full 4/5G signal and it does nothing. I have to tether to my work phone which is on EE.
    EndemicAlarm's avatar
    That doesn't sound very fine...

Though maybe use an independent DNS provider if you're not already, that may fix it. Google or Cloudflare would do. (edited)

Can I add volt at any point, I am planning to take virgin broadband around Sept when my Sky contract expires (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
Yes. If you get one now you can add the other later and it will link up to give the benefits within a couple of weeks.
  11. Damneddan's avatar
I have this from last year and it expires on the 1st June.

Hopefully this deal comes around then!
    KodaBear's avatar
The system lets some people upgrade early to this without penalty. Just log in and follow through checkout to buy this. It will ask if you want a new line or an upgrade. Click upgrade and see if it gives a prompt saying you need to pay an early upgrade fee or not.

Awful network. Can’t wait to rejoin Vodafone.
  14. colin79666's avatar
Good deal if you are sure there is working coverage in your area. For many (myself included) having a big data allowance on o2 is pointless as their network is so slow you could never actually use that much.
Despite promises in their network status updates that the local mast was a known issue and they were working to improve capacity nothing has improved for 2 years. I persevered for the last couple of years as their 2g coverage is really good but I lost patience and jumped to Talkmobile (Vodafone) this week. (edited)

I go for the £10 for 40gb (used to be £8) and get 3 months Amazon prime. Every three months I repeat this and so far have had Amazon prime for practically nothing for over a year. I have good O2 coverage most of the time.
    JP84's avatar
Hi. Did you have the offer for Disney plus with your plan?
  16. beatrixkiddo79's avatar
It's just worked for me, thanks OP. I missed the offer by a day or 2 last time!
  17. Dribbles_MacTavish's avatar
    Cheers

I just checked and my current contract runs out in a couple of weeks, so I was eligible for an upgrade. More than doubled my data allowance and also saved me £2 a month on my current O2 contract (which was then due to go up next month too, if I had stayed on it)
    sajitpatel33's avatar
How did you manage to upgrade? Didn't give me the option.

EDIT: Seems my contract end mid April (edited)

Shocking network. Used to be good a few years ago but now most of the time absolutely unusable. Can’t wait until my contact is up to leave

Been on this deal for a year and a bit now, just checking around if I should change, anyone know what’s the EE equivalent to this deal?
  22. robblack3538's avatar
Excellent deal, thank you I've just upgraded 3 sims for the family
  23. kingstongold's avatar
Credit check right at the end, is it worth it to save a couple of quid!?
  24. lyndongray's avatar
Been with o2 for years, couldn't offer me any good sim only deals to stay with them. They couldn't care less. I've switched to Smarty and just switching my wife's o2 account to them as well. Haven't had any issues with the 3 network so far and paying £12 for 100gb for me and £10.80 for 100gb for my wife as I've added her as a group member. No price rises, monthly rolling contract. No credit checks. Bye O2!!!
    Uthman's avatar
Same. I was with Virgin then got merged to O2. £8.19 for unlimited but signal was so bad so moved to Smarty. £5.25 for 40 GB. Can’t go wrong!
  25. F_F22's avatar
Coverage is rubbish but volt benefits, free greggs coffee on mine and wife’s every week, and the discount on second plan makes it unbeatable.
Amazing if you never have to speak to customer services
  26. blizzardwizzard's avatar
rubbish network. ditching them to join smarty - £5 for 40gb
  27. crazy_b's avatar
What’s this link originally come from? Can I get TopCashback on it? I only change when I get paid to do so
  28. cocobwoy's avatar
I got the £5 a month deal a few months back so just thought I'd share my experience.

Most phones are dual SIM now so I have this as my 2nd SIM.

My main contract is with EE but they like to charge extra to use your phone when you go abroad so that's when the O2 SIM comes in handy as it's free.

Also there are rare occasions where EE don't have signal but O2 do so easily switch between the 2.

    Cracking deal
    surreyspireite's avatar
I moved to 1pmobile from EE.

Uses EE,and for me I get the same speeds and 15gb EU roaming

good deal for my kid, he's at uni and I'm paying a lot more than this for o2 just now so perfect timing. ty
  30. UKM8's avatar
thank you, i just upgraded to £8 a month for 64GB broadband and unlimited minutes and texts, i used to pay £12 for 10gb Broadband
  31. josephobrien2000's avatar
As on o2 customer with contract about to end, why is this not coming up as an option for a simo upgrade? Nearest thing is about 25 per month. Crazy
    BigBoss85's avatar
I upgraded my contract earlier this week. I'm in the 14 day cooling off period and this offer came up for me.
  32. josephobrien2000's avatar

O2 are pathetic. Don’t do it. My work phone on EE has 122mbps and o2 can barely make 1mbps
  35. Sophia1993's avatar
Does this work for existing customers?
    Addy512a's avatar
Yeah it does. Just follow the link and sign-in.
  36. markthedoc's avatar
Cracking deal this. I was paying o2 £21 a month for 25gb data and that was with 50% off friends and family discount. Been with them years and I’d just moved to Lebara this week but I’m going to move back to o2 on this deal because then I’ll get my Volt benefits back.
    josephobrien2000's avatar
    What are volt benefits?
  37. N1Andy's avatar
Cheers - was on this deal when it was posted in November and due to go up in April by RPI etc......just upgraded the tariff on this and now it's aligned to the annual "find a better tariff when the price rises" scramble.
    huell_babineaux's avatar
With O2 every price hike can you just switch offers? Tempting to switch one SIM over if true.
  38. valentins's avatar
How much roaming data do you get with this? Any restrictions on the speed? Thanks
    fastclau's avatar
I think it's about 20-25 gb! Didn't have any speed restrictions! I actually had the most amazing 5g speed ever!!!
  39. Modric86's avatar
How do you get 64gb using volt? Haha

Ahh you need to be with virgin media also (edited)
    markthedoc's avatar
Yep, you need to have virgin as well.
