This won't be for everyone, but it appears that EON have opened their EON Next Drive (1yr fixed) tariff.
It doesn't show when you do an online quote, but you can click a link to get a quote, and for me it is very comparable to Octopus GO.......I also have quite a substantial debit on my account that I would need to pay off if I switched provider (and as this has no exit fee it means I can switch whenever I've paid it down).

The rates are marginal between this and Octopus, but for me the big bonus is no exit fee and that the night rate is for 7 hours (Octopus is only 4 hours for me), which if you have a large battery EV might be better.

TariffName: Next Drive Fixed V1
No exit Fee

Electricity Day Unit Rate (07:00 to 00:00) :33.787pKWH
Electricity Night Unit Rate (00:00 to 07:00) :9.500pKWH
Electricity Standing Charge :47.209pper day

Gas Unit Rate:7.223p KWH
Gas Standing Charge:29.112p per day

I like this. Electricity cheaper at night what makes it cheaper at night? (edited)

Reason it's cheaper is that there is less demand, but they have to keep the power stations running (no on/off), that's all

Question on all these deals - do you actually need to provide evidence you have an electric car? How do they prove you have one?

I didn't need to show any evidence - just told them what car and the size of the battery so that they could provide a cost estimate......I suspect they probably don't care!

This is just an economy 7 tariff. I'm on octopus econ 7 which runs out in Oct, I've just fitted solar with battery and the econ 7 works well. I charge car in night, use appliances on timers to get PV and battery feeds in excess. The 15p I get paid for feed in covers the cost of charging at night

They day rate is 33.7p I think, I’ll stick with the Octopus Flexible tariff

Just in case anyone missed it, yesterday Octopus launched their new 'Intelligent Flux' electricity tariff.

    octopus.energy/pre…ge/

The tariff, like their existing Flux tariff is squarely aimed at people (like me) who have solar panels & a battery but no EV. The primary advantage of Flux is the high prices they pay for solar exports to the grid; 19.3p/kWh off-peak & 31.4p/kWh between 16:00 & 19:00. This compares with the measly 5.6p/kWh I was getting from EDF. The peak rate is especially useful if, like me, you have a west facing array. There's also a cheap (ish) 3 hour overnight import rate of 18.2p/kWh which is useful in winter when solar drops off.

Moving to Flux has made a HUGE difference. Before I had my panels put in, my annual bill with EDF was £995/year. After the solar system was put in, this dropped to £408/year which was frankly very disappointing. However simply moving from EDF to Flux, as best as I can estimate it, will drop this to just £65/year! The payback period for my solar system should drop from 14.9 years to a more respectable 9.8 years.

Not everything is yet known about the 'Intelligent Flux' tariff but some things are already apparent. First it is way simpler. Imports & exports are priced the same during one of two time periods. It's 36.1p/kWh for both imports & exports during the 16:00 to 19:00 peak period & 27.1p/kWh the rest of the time. The export price is a lot higher than with existing Flux. On the downside, there's no very low overnight import tariff to exploit in winter. However I think (but don't absolutely know) that Octopus effectively take over your solar system to import & export stuff as the grid most cost-effectively needs it. This sounds a bit Big Brother-ish but frankly I don't mind as it saves me a lot of hassle.

To get to the bottom line, as far as I can tell, a shift from Flux to Intelligent Flux should drop my annual leccy bill into negative territory of about minus £21/year. I'm definitely signing up for it as soon as it becomes an option on the Octopus app. (edited)

If you anyone can get intelligent Octopus for Electricity if you have an EV i would try it:

    Im currently getting:
    Day rate: 31.01p 05:30 - 23:30
    Night rate: 7.5p 23:30 - 05:30
    Standard Charge: 41.01p a day

And I have gas on Octopus Tracker: currently 3.72p a kwh and 26.84p day. It does fluxuate but i dont think it can get much cheaper than this right now.

I have a new home with heat pum system and an ev Charger outside ( not have a electronic car) currently with British gas as supplier , is that possible to swap to intelligent octupus tariff ? Or they will come to install and will ask where is you electric car ?

Octopus are currently doing their Intelligent Octopus for 7.5p off peak 11.30pm to 5.3am and 30p peak

Interesting. Small point - I think the day unit electric has a decimal point in the wrong place.

Looks to me like, basically, a rebranded economy 7 tariff, heavily weighted towards cheap night/expensive day.

Nice to see these kind of deals coming back. Thanks for posting! (edited)

Octopus intelligent gives you 6 hours (I think it gives some during the day as well if your car is plugged in at random points when energy is cheaper) as a comparison.

I think this would be an alternative tariff for those that can't get Octopus intelligent due to incompatible car/charger. It gives longer off-peak hours when compared to Go.

Thanks for this, due to get an EV October and currently with eon next on the flex tariff. This doesn't have much of an increase on prices of the standard energy price at normal times so I'll probably just switch to this now in anticipation

I’m on British Gas standard variable tariff but notice they do an ev tariff now I wonder if it’s on par with this ?

It's worth noting the gas price is slightly lower than standard as well......Just for comparison, my standard EONnext tariff was:

Electricity Unit Rate : 30.9p KWH
    Electricity Standing Charge :47.209pper day

    Gas Unit Rate:7.54p KWH
    Gas Standing Charge:29.11p per day

Octopus is also no exit fee?

Rates are slightly less than Octopus and the hours are longer so that's good. Interesting!

I am being charged 39.46p + vat for my electricity day units instead of the 33.787p mention in this deal. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.
