I dont know where this myth that they're a 'con' comes from. I use them and they are effective unless you're expecting them to make your drink ice cold. That's not what I'm after, though. Sometimes 'room temperature' is just too warm(aka summer) and these can help bring them down to a *slightly* chilled state which is refreshing. Usually making it too cold ruins the flavor anyways and that probably matters to people who are trying to avoid diluting their drink with water.

So no, they're not a perfect replacement for the chilling capabilities of ice, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and the claim that they're 'completely ineffective' at cooling a drink is just a lie. (edited)
