Zoom7000

I was told the very same thing. I just purchased the 20GB deal last week with the £80 reward card. Activated it today and here are two speedtest that I did. And here's what I was getting with Three who I cancelled to move to BT Mobile. Ironically, this is the best speedtest I ever got with them at home. My average was between 0.43Mbps to 1.43Mbps. So yeah, it's supposed to be capped at 60Mbps, but I'm getting 80Mbps on average and between 40-80x more than what I was getting on Three!

tds09k

Hi, I called BT, and they offered me the below. Two BT 100GB sims for £35. This is a family sim package with the usual unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and BT Sports). This price includes the BT Broadband £5 discount. As I also have BT Plus, they doubled my data allowance...so both me and my partner get 200GB each. For the price, this works out about £17.50 each, which is not bad. So its definitely worth phoning BT and haggling with them

got one recently via moneysavingexpert with £10 bonus for loading £50 and fee free currency swaps for six months subject to waiting 7 days before withdrawing. Link is still active There is still a fee for ATM withdrawals of less than $200 or €200.

Dj.CUE

Not sure you could do this without doing a currency exchange. Maybe if you moved it from £ to another currency and back again it could work. Obviously the fees would be taken so you would probably only get a few £ profit, unless you timed it to make a profit on the exchange rate. Now is not a good time as the £ is very weak.

OP did you get the prepay card on this as in the Vitality T&Cs it looks like it's not compatible with any Garmin offers?

MrSmallBear

Love my 530. Amazing little unit. Decent metrics. Easy to use. I bought an after market mountain bike mount for mine and it sits well and out of the way in my handlebars. I looked at the wahoo. I liked the LED idea, but the 530 managed to beat it for my needs. I’ve added 3rd party maps to mine for off road use. It’s made a huge difference. And it works perfectly with a chest strap, cadence sensor, speed sensor etc for further metrics.

Gareth79

I can vouch for them being pretty rugged - I bought a cheap "out front" mount which failed and flipped my 530 into the middle of the road. Luckily it wasn't driven over, but while bruised it still works fine.

My reply was aimed at your fscs remark. I only travel europe so their other fees do not effect me. They also use the mastecard rate and I don't have to worry about moving cash over to pay cc off as it's already in my current account. I have metrobank acc just for holiday cash everything else is in variety of accounts etc. My opinion only of course.

Anon32

It’s a fact that this works worldwide and metrobank is only free in the eu. For the rest of the world they charge a rip off 2.75% and a cash machine fee of £1.50. Withdraw a tenner and thats a whopping 17.8% charge. Clarity even if paid a month later would be about 5 pence. People can choose I’m afraid. As for the fscs yes that’s my opinion. But with a 90% share loss it would seem shareholders would agree. I have nothing against Metro they have good savings account but for outside the eu they are a rip off. If I don’t have either account I’m not going to open a metro account over this if its just for Foreign currency as it would be a worse deal. In my humble opinion of course.

fearona

Thats your opinion.

Anon32

Cash will be paid first. Always higher intetest and intetest that accumulates first will be paid. They did use to do it the other way round always paying the cheaper interest first but then you could have £2000 interest free and make a £30 cash withdrawal and that would sit there charging interest until the whole lot is paid off. The regulator said anti competitive which it is. This works good worldwide. Anyway the way metrobank is going you’ll be using the fscs not in the distant future.

Anhunedd

How would paying off a cash advance quickly work if you also use it for purchases? For example, you have a balance of £100 from buying some stuff, then a few days later take out £100 of currency abroad. Once that currency transaction appears (check using online banking / app I presume?) do you have to now quickly pay off £200 to clear the whole lot, or just the £100 from the currency?

charliejade

Would this work with a mastercard prepaid?

matwalaboy

A bit of a generalisation here I know, but the amazon credit cards are done by NewDay - and despite having cards with them for a number of years for other high street retailers like House Of Fraser and Debenhams - and the fact that my salary has almost doubled since taking those cards out and I have a very good credit rating - they denied me a card - telling I failed the credit check - without caring to explain why. I opened a case with their team and after 3+ months of so called diligence they said we can't do much as you didn't meet the criteria, then I asked the ombudsman to step in, and its still ongoing. This has been now going on for more than 4 months - leading to much frustration, possibly a mark on my credit file and what not. Again I know a massive generalisation, but I am not going to touch them with a barge pole - since then I have also returned their other CC and decided not to do any business with them.

Kulaak

If you get the gift card for just signing up & being accepted without the need to make a card transaction then the best thing is to cut it up as soon as it drops through the door if you're concerned about running up a debt.

Gazz59

It has no effect on your score (so they said) to find out if you would be accepted, but if you are, and plan to make a purchase where you could use the £25 gift card (known to be an instant credit at times) £25 fer 5 minutes (tops) on a keyboard?, not the end of the world methinks.

Gazz59

As a single retired person, with a £24000 per year income, my friend (via google chrome) has just been told he wasn't eligible. I think it's considered a positive to have a credit card, leastways it's a NEGATIVE not to have one, in the world of credit scores. I suspect you could big-up yer income to get the card (so the £25 gift card) if yer could be bothered? I remember when I applied to this company (Newday) and hit the wrong key when I input my DOB, (a guaranteed fail you would have thought) but it went through...I only picked-up on it when I had to input my dob (after I had a card) to log-in, and input the CORRECT date, and Newday (when I called em?) shut me down XD

Yeh that’s true but a lot of the time I’ve found that skim reading means they quickly process the credit. It’s just those annoying occasions where you get those few people who post random responses not relating to the query at all, but a quick reply usually sorts those out.

jamie15

Live chat for me. I didn't choose email support for these issues as they always skim read instead of trying to solve the problem.

Phataphobic

Did you chat to them on live chat or via email? On the couple of accounts we have as a family, 1 or 2 they added the credit straightaway and the rest they brought up the Amazon platinum mastercard offer and said to contact new day. All were via email and it was just a simple case of replying back and telling them to stop sending standard replies and actually look at the screenshot as that shows it was a different promotion and voila, credit was added.

jamie15

It does work, but depends on who you get. I had 4 accounts with Amazon Assistant and MasterCard promotions both missing. 1 CS rep added on both credits without much issues, screenshot was fine. However, 1 CS rep insisted the Amazon Assistant offer was expired and the other one tried to force me to give the MasterCard link. It took me so long to try and get them to honour it but they did eventually, just have one more account to go.

Phataphobic

I found that emailing them with a screenshot worked for getting the credit on the few accounts that I had.

pibpob

Yes, but unless you have a fee-free card you will still pay dearly for it.

Inquisitor

No deal here. Happy to keep letting the monza etc take that revenue.

grumbler

Absolutely different incomparable things. There are two types of charges on foreign currency transactions 1. Your card is charged in local currency. Mastercard/Visa rate is used for conversion, extra charge added by your bank 2. Merchants offer you to pay in £ instead of local currency and use their own, bad for you, rate for conversion (DCC) Mastercard/Visa rate is good, close to the interbank one. Halifax doesn't add (1) for Clarity transactions. You can and always was able to refuse to pay in £, thus avoiding (2). Just check what amount and in what currency your are asked to authorise.

My 12 months contract was due to an end and that gave us the opportunity to get a new contract on her name simple. Now I am waiting to switch from Sky and BT is having some massive issues as they aren't able to connect me for the past 3 weeks (I don't have broadband or landline active because of that )

But once you're beyond minimum contract term you're on 30 days notice, so your wife taking it on must have superseded that. Unless you gave notice 30 days previously? Or they charged you for an extra 30 days at the end?

No, my contact was due to and end so my wife's contract was starting on the day after. Now I know that even if u had a BT at some time in the past, then u switched to other providers and u are coming back to BT they recognise u as a NEW customer

Nobody is saying you don’t know what you’re talking about. But the other deal you posted is a little irresponsible as it doesn’t mention the potential risk. Someone that doesn’t know better could follow your deal, get £20 off but end up paying considerably more when they apply for a loan/mortgage later this year. Maybe update your post with a line just to highlight this?

no2813

as i have been doing credit cards for cashback offers on TCB quidco, for over 10 years now, its not that it takes time to show up, just that they dont have long term down side, unless you use them and dont pay them, or well ya i wouldnt have what i have, but oh ya nvm, i dont know what im talking about, as normal on here lmao

rogparki

Except some folks will apply , just to get the £20 , and whether accepted or declined they will still take a hit to their credit rating - so not a good idea :(

chunk3rvd

Can often take up to a month to show on your credit file. As stated above, this is a short sighted idea for anyone considering a major financial commitment like a loan or mortgage
