sorted by– The Sky Stream interface is focused towards watching streamed content rather than live content. You can watch live content but you can't have the device automatically show live channels on start up (like Sky Q). There's sometimes a bit of a delay when selecting a channel to stream but I've found switching to other streaming channels is fairly quick (a tad slower than Sky Q but not slow).
– Ad skipping is the ability to fast forward and not the removal of adverts. You can use the remote to fast forward or voice to skip forward a specific time (e.g. one minute or 90 seconds) but the ads breaks are different lengths – sometimes just one advert – which makes it awkward to know how far to skip.
– The restart live programmes is not always reliable and often takes you back to end of the previous show (before the credits). This is awkward if you're watching a channel with adverts as you can't fast forward (unless you've paid for the ad skipping upgrade). I've experienced several times when it went to the end of the previous programme, then played adverts and then skipped back to the end of the previous programme again and then I had to watch the adverts for a second time.
– There's no recording on the device, you add streaming content to a playlist to watch later (assuming that it's still available to stream when you go to watch it). I read that some programmes are recorded to the cloud but I didn't experience this (perhaps because chosen content was available to stream). You can have multiple playlists if you live with others. It will open the app to watch the content (e.g. Channel 4 app opens and you have to accept terms before the content plays).
– I didn't go for the UHD/Dolby Atmos upgrade (although I noticed there was an offer in my account for a free upgrade for four months). I'm surprised to say that I didn't notice that I didn't have UHD as the quality was really good. The UI was also really clear (you need to change the settings to UHD as it defaults to HD). I didn't get around to testing the sound without Dolby Atmos.
– I noticed that I was getting personalised ads despite opting out for this. Perhaps the opting out is just related to Sky and they still use data from Google, Meta etc.
– Sky Stream is better than Virgin Media Stream by a long shot - interface, speed and suggested content.
– There's a fair bit of judder with moving text on Sky Stream - there's a setting which supposedly improves this but it didn't do much for me (mainly affects credits).
I think it's probably better to keep Sky Q if you already have this and watch mainly live channels and like to record and keep things for a while. If you mainly watch streamed content, then Sky Stream might be good for you as it is geared around streaming and gives you relatively easy access to live channels. If you only watch streamed content, then you might be better using your TV or getting FireTV or Apple TV box.
I've cancelled the Sky Stream (it was not this deal but one month free and then rolling contract at £29 a month). (edited)
I phoned up sky who gave me an offer on sky q instead for £24 a month including movies and 4k content.
But if you are interested in Sky Stream this is the cheapest deal I can see available and it may also include a period of free broadband
I should add all those extras you are talking about are very clearly set out in the link (edited)
1. the user interface.
2. Sky Stream comes with 1080p resolution as standard with 4K available at a price, whereas Now is limited to 720p or 1080p with a Boost pass.
3. Stream has various other minor tech advantages
So from a functional perspective you can use Now TV but stream offers a superior viewing experience
This is about a good deal if you want to try Sky Stream which has a really good UI for Sky Ultimate and Freeview.
And there is only one inflation increase in the 18 month period. Inflation applies every 12 months. So only one increase.
Given this deal is 27% cheaper than any other deal on the table right now you have to consider whether that one inflationary increase will be greater than 27% which seems unlikely
Or you have to consider whether even better deals may emerge. I am not sure of the answer to that one.
"Sky Entertainment 18 month contract. Sky Broadband Ultrafast+ or Superfast free for your first 9 months. Prices may change during this period."
The Sky forum is full of posts about problems
Netflix basic - £7 a month
Now TV Entertainment pass - I'm currently on £4 a month, but have been on £5 a month for last 2 years as per their standard retention offer.
Also, the first review I googled summarised with "We’d like to see the Sky Stream get a boost in processing power so that it’s slightly less slow"
This doesn't really sound as though "Stream has various other minor tech advantages"
You can't be serious!
I've not used sky since dish-old days. Remember them trying to charge extra for HD which was hilarious.
TNT Sports £10 per month 30 day contract in UHD.
SKY TV £8 per month SKY Sports at £18.75 per month 30 day contract HD included plus an extra 10% off.(Remember because 30 day contracts you can cancel when the football season finishes).
You can also get 10% off Netflix and Disney plus.(Netflix don’t do discounts).
Everything with Virgin Stream comes with HD or UHD included no extra fees like sky charges is well.
I like the flexibility is well you cancel any of the above packages with 30 days notice.

If only there was a Freeview alternative, I’d hop to it. Especially for the parents.
I rang up yesterday to ask if I can uncancel and have this deal, they said no. I said what do you mean no? There's no deals on your account. What?
He said I'd have to cancel, send this puck back, then rejoin as a new customer, receive new puck. Really? He sounded frustrating saying it tbh, like it was out of his hands. Ridiculous. I wanted Sky Stream with movies for £27 but they won't even take my money
No you can't cast it to a TV etc that's all locked down
Found this deal after I had signed up, and it is £14 cheaper per month like for like. I called to explre the possibility of them matching but they won't do it.
Is there any way around this? Cancel the account and sign up in a different name? (edited)
