6 months of "unlimited" 650gb fair use, enough for everyone not a massive data fiend.

Offer only through Topcashback so potentially £8.50 cashback too.

From what I can gather Lyca have moved to EE from O2, so for me after a recent mast upgrade 5g is now in my sleepy town of 4000 people.

Dreadful customer service apparently, but hopefully I never have to deal with them and if I do, I can jump ship at any time.

Hot hot hot - £1.49 potentially for a 1 month trial. Do be aware they seem to make cancelling awkward - you can cancel the CPA (Continuous Payment Authority) via your bank - they must & have to compensate you if they don't - mine didn't know - they do now!

    6months 650GB?! That’s 110GB/month

    What happens after 6months? (edited)

650gb EVERY month. Month 7 returns to it's regular price of £25, simples.

Odd thing I have found with Lyca is that their sims do not work in any mobile routers as I do not believe they allow using as a hotspot unless anyone has a workaround?
Never had an issue using any other providers sims as a mobile hotspot and I have tried many. (edited)

I have been using for the past month in a ZTE MC888 and used over 800GB data without issues and never changing any settings

You say you can jump ship at any time. I've been without service for 2 days now. I'm unable to send text messages to request a PAC code, unable to call them and they do not reply on twitter or the chat help when requesting a PAC. I'm desperate to just get the PAC and leave. I have my Lebara SIM ready and waiting.

I'm with Smarty at the mo, no service for a week and looking at the 1st July at the earliest until it's resolved... Customer Service, well, the replies are quick (via email) but they constantly contradict themselves, and, fob you off... But, no phone at all unless I get a sim sorted, just need a month - cheap cheap lol, one that does not run on 3 - any suggestions?
    taffyjock1's avatar
    taffyjock1 Author
Same reason why I'm leaving 3, used to get great 4g cheap for years, now it's all over the place, dropped from 120mbps to 5 with almost 0 uploads and a 300+ping after a mast "upgrade".

My only resort was to switch to 3g only at least it was a stable 20mbps.

Have a look what sim only deals pop up on a network that works in your area.
Lyca is EE, Virgin and Giffgaff are O2, Voxi is Voda all I think do 1 month deals.

I have been with them for five months and I would suggest that they are so cheap for a reason. Awful customer service and more network outages than I have experienced with any other network. I had a much more positive experience with Lebara and will be looking to move back over once my 6 month offer period is up.

can this tether? And what is the roaming allowances?
    AndyRoyd's avatar

    Tether from handset = yes;
EU roaming is (still) stated as 12GB for the unlimited plan, although that originated from prior to 26 June 2023.

Just be aware that Lycra is now using the EE network (moving from O2 as we speak) so take that into consideration. As usual, the best mobile network is area dependent and your own usage dependent. Always look at which mobile network provider your chosen supplier uses and make sure it works for you.

Great deal. It's strange that I posted this same deal (3 months instead of 6) and it became icy whereas this is hot

    Fickle crowd, good post OP

Think you were just unlucky posting while everyone was complaining about the signal dropping due to their switch to EE.

But then I've seen deals go hot or cold over 1p.

    Love this place 😃

Lyca *would* have been bad on the O2 network but things will have changed now they're running on EE.

The non-tethering/router stipulation still rules me out though. I'll stick with faithful Lebara (edited)
    jedijacobs's avatar
    jedijacobs
    Is it definitely no tethering?
I read somewhere else that you can use it as a hotspot?

What would happen if I logged onto it from my ipad while out and used data from my phone?

650gb a month is not unlimited and that sucks for a so called unlimited data deal. Ofcom or what ever organisation deals with this sort of thing should get involved as unlimited should mean unlimited. (edited)
    smackos's avatar

You aren't wrong, but you'd be surprised at how many of these unlimited deals actually aren't, even the likes of EE (which is extremely expensive comparatively) is only 600gb fair usage. Most of the big 4 have hidden fair usage limits when you look..

Lyca mobile customer service is in Philippines advisors are extremely rude, patronising and purposely don’t listen to you and to top it off if they can’t help they disconnect the call, also they don’t ever reply to emails save the time and join a trustworthy company like 1p mobile

Currently number transfer are not going through people are waiting months, total clown company! (edited)

Said all I had in previous posts. All the same. One interesting thing tho, just checked my Lyca sim and there is no service now. But most interesting was when checked settings; UK number, but in data says PLUS, then in services I can see polish phone numbers for all emergency services and CS. In APN says "plus" Looks like I have been transferred to Lycamobile.pl Jokers!

650gb EVERY month. Month 7 returns to it's regular price of £25, simples.

    Unlikely.
More likely less at 600GB every month,
unless Net-Neutrality-flouting Lyca has a special agreement with EE to permit less / more bandwidth.

Just for kicks, this morning I threw a (presumably EE network) Lyca handset SIM into the £29 Strong 4G cellular router touted here,
and with zero configuration was surfing with no issue 45secs later,
except still had to tolerate a similar meh speed as the handset obtains at same location.

When I signed up with them I couldn't get data to work ( had the 4gb data contract as well as unlimited calls/texts but only calls and texts were working). Their live chat is absolutely appalling, glitched out every single time both on pc and mobile and couldn't get anyone to fix the problem. Then took multiple attempts to contact them by phone, was FINALLY successfull. Actually found the advisor to be accomodating and fixed the issues quickly, but if you need to contact their customer services regularly I'd look elsewhere! Had no issues since and the contract is absolutely fine though.

I've had several lyca sim deals for various family members/friends not had any major issues porting in or out or taking out the deals.

The only concern so far has been at the time of auto renewal, where the payment is due, you get a few texts of emails suggesting renewal failed, You're without service, calls, data, SMS for 1-2 hours after midnight & then the renewal card payment is taken, the system figures itself out and your services continue as normal.

As long as you're not out around midnight - 1am then otherwise you could be stuck without any service until the payment sorts itself out.

Yeah, my Lyca SIM appeared to work without issue when briefly chucked into a £29 Strong 4G cellular router,
so it is very likely there is no such restriction in place,
hence the invitation for to have an opportunity to clarify / correct any previous inadvertently inaccurate statement prior to potential issue being escalated.

Dear Customer, We are glad to know that you are able to use the SIM card in a router . We do agree many customers were using the sim card in their Wireless Routers, Dongles, GPRS tracker and so on. Please be informed that we do not restrict our sim cards to be used in any devices other than mobile handsets. Depending upon the sim compatibility of the equipment, you will be able to use the sim card in the same. However we currently will not be able to guarantee the usages of our sim card in other devices apart from handsets. We do apologize if our previous statement was not conveyed properly.
