First time home buyers can claim £1000 from the government per tax year using Lifetime ISAs

interest @ 1% on the full amount, i think. but then you can only pay in the limits.

ANd Renters also get this bonus too ? No? what a surprise .. .y1 - £4k becomes £5k, +plus interest y2 - £8k becomes £10k, +plus interest on 4k? or 5k? y3 - £12k becomes £15k, +plus interest on 8k? or 10k?

i don't think so, no. it's £1k for every £4k added each year. if you didn't pay in any more in the following years, there would be no bonus. so; y1 - £4k becomes £5k, y2 - £8k becomes £10k, y3 - £12k becomes £15k, y4 - £16k becomes £20k, etc.

If I have plenty of cash savings and my partner doesn't, is there anything stopping me sending her 4k per year to put straight into this so that we can max out x2 until we buy our first home? Edit: If the bonus is capped to 1k per year there is no real incentive to pay in after the first 4k? Or am I missing something?

used this to buy my house last month, and so did my wife. The £6k was very helpful, but it's only really open to folk with cash. we were lucky enough to be able to save £4k each over 3 financial years, and the final £2k was made avaialbe due to luck with the purchase dates.

The only way I know to save more is use Amex platinum to pay off in one go during first three months of card ownership. 5% back. Other than that, can’t think of anything.

I use natwest savings builder, 1.5% bonus interest if you put in £50 every month upto 10k, There are locked accounts I found for upto 2.4% over 3 years but I prefer access in case I néed it quickly I imagine most banks will have some kind of savings thing like that, I stopped using isa's a while ago, can't see any advantage to them over other savings now

The £2 fee is more than covered by the cashback on my council tax alone.. I'm all for hearing how you get cheaper council tax legally! But thanks for calling me and everyone else clueless, maybe one day I can be as supreme as yourself and look down on all others!

I'll get her to swap it next year ;) thank you x

No problem, things are easily taken the wrong way online! Hope you get it sorted :) The 123 Mini would be the most likely as it's their standard account for anybody up to the age of 18. Unfortunately I don't think that one comes with any such benefits like this student one though!

Sorry not meaning to be rude!, never saw this. I just got a notification for a comment & yours came up. I didn't look at the date. Yer its weird, i will look into it thanks could be the mini. :)

I'm not sure why you're digging up old a month old thread just to be rude, as I was originally just trying to help but OK here goes.. This particular type of Santander bank account can only be opened if "You’re 18 or over" and are about to begin university, or already studying at that level, as per the account terms and conditions. If you are trying to say that your 16 year old daughter has managed to open this specific type of account despite the fact that she isn't eligible, then as her parent you should maybe look into that for her and speak with the bank as this account has criteria such as paying in £500 per semester and offers overdrafts that no minor should have access to, as they aren't legally allowed to due to being under 18. My guess is that she's opened a different type of account and there are maybe some crossed wires somewhere, maybe a Santander 123 Mini?

My daughter opened it at 16 so not sure what your point is?

Correct from September 1, 2019. Starling wthdrawal is £300 per day Revolut is £200 per calender month. Starling is very good if you just want the best conversion rate in the date you wothdraw money. But not good if you want to use to lock the favaurable exchange rate an keep Euro inthe account due to conversion rate of 0.4%.

Any chance of similar but USD account?

Understood. Thanks for the clarification. So is there a 0.4% fee every withdrawal as the money is being converted from GBP to EUR? The benefits of Starling that I like vs Revolut are the high withdraw amounts per month and interest on savings.

Starling is a current Account, not Prepaid card like Revolut, etc Any Debit Card issued in the UK is linked to Sterling (not Euro) so everytime you withdraw money from ATM in eurozone they will be taking it from your sterling balance not Euro. You will not be issued a debit card for the EUROS account. So my understanding everytime you withdraw money it will take your Sterling Balance, not Euro. At least at the moment that is what the people are saying. At the moment It is good to save, transfer or receive money (not withdrawing or spending) in euros . But start from September there's a 0.4% fee for conversion ransfers. This makes them much more expensive than Revolut, and even more expensive than Transferwise.

By withdrawing it or spending it abroad? Otherwise if you wanted to spend or withdraw GBP why would you go through this whole process?

Card came this morning along with full paperwork - nothing to fill in and send back - just have to phone them to set up security. Very impressed so far. Dave

Had a letter saying my Post Office Bank Account was being closed down. I have no dd's etc in on it and only a small amount of money - so this came at perfect time. I filled in application on Weds - got a text Yesterday to say the account is open and details are on the way ! Very quick - they didn't ask me to send any id etc...……… Dave

I applied on the last day, and it said approved but I heard nothing until this morning when my welcome pack and debit card arrived. Since then I've set up all my security with them by phone, and got online and the app up and running. Nice and easy.

Should be entitled to the £125 still if you went through MSE and did the online sign up process before Monday I believe, the actual switch etc. and other terms to get the bonus you have a couple of months to carry out from what I was reading, will be keeping a close eye on it anyway

I received the same. I still think we’re entitled to the £100 if you transfer another account into it. So still £100, I guess.

Ok my mate just tried a cash machine withdrawal was free and when I tried it said €5.00 very odd.

No, not a joint account totally separate. Don’t understand how one of us gets charged the other it’s free. Unless I’m the one under the old terms and conditions, it’s very strange.

You have a joint account with your mate?

That is odd. I never though to try my Starling card in Portugal, as I assumed if it charged my partners it would charge mine. Wish I'd tried it now! How can it vary from customer to customer though? Ian

This cash machine is free to use for me on my Starling card but my mates card says there is a fee. Very strange, we both have the same card and the standard current account. It’s not a joint account btw. We tried the cards several times, his came up as a £3 processing fee, mine just went through as normal. Checked my account and wasn’t charged.

Actually says "before 12 July 2019: (i) deposit £1,500 into your existing eligible current account; (ii) log into our online or mobile banking service" so it could be too late! I'm looking forward to 9th August payout day, hoping I didn't forget something.

Just to remind anyone subscribed to this thread that today is the deadline for needing to have deposited the £1500 and logged into the internet banking!

No issues for me, the switching process was fairly straightforward, although when I attended the bank to open the account first of all the bank was closed that day due to flooding, and they didn't bother cancelling my appointment. Apart from that, all good, and yes I agree why only put the damn sort code on the card, that's really useful when trying to setup payments from other banks :(

No, I thought the "by the 9/8 date was for those that took the offer up last minute & switched on the 12/7, not those that switched immediately. Usually these types of payouts are completed in 3-4 weeks.

Having the account number hidden also gets on my wick especially when setting up direct debits using a mobile whilst out and about. As for the card reader, not tried it, but my Barclays card reader works for Nationwide.

Update 1
Curve launches Curve Cash - 1% instant cashback!

This new program works in addition to reward programs on your underlying cards. This means you can ‘double dip’ on spend you push through your Curve Card.

The new scheme offers cashback at many top retailers. You get different benefits depending on which card you hold:

Curve Blue (the free version): 1% instant cashback on up to three pre-selected retailers for 90 days.

Curve Black: 1% instant cashback on up to three pre-selected retailers indefinitely

Curve Metal: 1% instant cashback on up to six pre-selected retailers indefinitely

You can select the retailers you earn cashback at. The choice includes top brands such as Amazon, Apple, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco, M&S, Pret, TFL, Uber, Gett, Spotify and Netflix.

I travel a lot and I have never ever had Mastercard go down

It was good. Untill they put up the price. Your rewards will barely cover the fees so becomes pointless and I spend at 2k amonth. There payment protection isn't great. A year later and I'm still waiting for a refund. The best thing and only good thing I like is I can share my credit card with the wife as I use the curve and she uses the CC. Using abroad and slot of times MasterCard goes down so your left in limbo. Stick to the free version.

Yes, if you will compare with Starling you can say its classic not prehistoric! can compare with Barclays app, which for me is laggy and don't know from where to choose when I need to sort out something via their "powerful app"! For me customer services via telephone from FD is one of the best from UK, followed by Nationwide

Pretty easy to hit that criteria essentially free

Literally just finished switching to FD from Monzo today (Starling is my main account). Customer support confirmed that I have met all the criteria as the switch included £2k. I've also now set up the FD Regular Saver. The FD app is prehistoric looking compared to Starling. So I will certainly continue using Starling as my main account. But that 5% saver is v.good, and FD customer service has been very good so far.

I just move £1000 out to a different bank, then move it back in the next day. Never had any problems qualifying.

There are no better options out there in terms of interest on a bank account. 3% on £1500 is still the best bank account rate out there (Tesco dropping to 1%), and £500 paid in a month is perhaps the easiest qualification that any bank account could request.

I have already left for ever! Only switched to them for the deal, which they managed to mess up completely! 3% on a max ballance of £1,500 is only about £45 a year... and you have to pay in £500 a month to qualify. There are some much better options out there, with much less pain!

I know push payments is quite an elaborate scam... But some of the stuff you hear in the papers. Come on people, so obviously a scam some of it. Ringing from the met police I need to transfer your money into a secure account etc - It's a sad thing that this is a selling point for a bank now.

Money laundering for Mexican drug cartels and Saudi terrorists. Yay!

The letter received doesn't mention that making an appointment is required. So when I went in had to schedule one, was only supposed to last 30mins. Went in for my appointment to check documents. Turns out that my application has been deleted due to a "glitch", due to having a student account 15 years ago, so details clashed. So told had to apply again, which was a pain as went in my lunch break but was there for an hour going through application and setting up mobile app. Didnt look at my address or ID document, I read the posts above and took my wageslips just in case, as I was asked how I would meet the minimum monthly payments. The virtual cards are cards you can set up to pay online, but you can only make 5 a month/have 5 at once. They can be used over and over again until you delete them from your account. Disposable cards you can only have one of, but it can be used as much as you like and it generates a new card everytime.

That's different from disposable cards, everyone has access to virtual cards however premium members get disposable cards which destroy themselves once they've been used and automatically generates a new card. You can only generate 5 virtual cards a month, there's no limit to disposable cards.
