About this deal

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

So I posted this Megathread in December last year, and the last update on that deal was in May, so I thought it would be a good time for a reminder, all of the below are the best offers currently available, there are others, but really not worth a mention at this time

Note that some of the more limited providers like Hyperoptic / community fibre / zzoomm / 4th utility etc. may actually offer better options that these social deals, I have listed some at the footer of the thread, thanks to some of the ops for some of those

Note also, that you can also get sim only (SIMO) deals which may be more suitable, example Smarty offer unlimited for £12pm with no cap (Social tariff), as do iD Mobile, and Voxi offer a £10pm social SIMO tariff, of course you will need to have or buy a 4G / 5G router, which will obviously add a bit to your budget

Hopefully helps someone, for reference HERE is the previous thread with lots and lots of comments and advice, thanks for looking ❤️

Was hoping this would cover my Mum on attendance allowance and DLA.
    KodaBear's avatar
Vodafone will with theirs. But not the others. They accept DLA.

    £12 for 40Mb, £20 for 80Mb

Am I right in saying only BT include free calls?
    Nav_A20's avatar
Both BT tariffs below have free calls.

    £15- 700 mins a month to landline & mobile.

£20-unlimited mins to landline & mobiles.

We’re with Vodafone currently. My mum lives with me and gets pension credit. I was able to change the bill into her name and get the social tariff for £12 monthly for 1 year.
    littlesor's avatar
What happens the year after? Have to renew at normal price or can still get social tariff?
  6. paul.martinOUp's avatar
Eventually everything will be free and society will collapse

I’m on the £20 virgin 50mb/s 1 month rolling contract. Claimed using PIP

That's not much less than I am paying with VM on regular. Social tariffs should be lower cost imo. (edited)

Smarty also do an unlimited data/mins/texts 5G SIM under the social tariff for £12 a month on a rolling plan

With the BT one, get free unlimted calls and they sent a lil 4G hub out too which can be taken anywhere and use anywhere for data. Only issues - took a good 10+ days to connect but was refunded and compensated... A few drop offs recently but lots of roadworks going on, so I assume it's that... Literally can't fault for the price

Some of these are relatively expensive and poor value for social tarriffs. You can get better deals with normal prices...

Can you go on these deals if you’re already in the middle of a contract with one of these companies? Like let’s say you’re already with 3 and paying £25 a month for broadband can you call them up and change into cheaper deal if you qualify?
    robo989's avatar
    No

700 minutes with BT £15. Digital Voice is a pain if electric goes out and it took BT a month to sort my line out. Promise of compo went very quiet after it was connected.
    KodaBear's avatar
Digital voice is the way forward. All the ISPs are transitioning since Openreach is shutting down the copper phone network shortly. Virgin Media are almost complete now too. And many countries around the world have already transitioned some time ago.

If you rely on your landline as your sole method of communication your ISP can provide assistance whether this is a battery backup or an emergency GSM phone.
  14. Kallisti's avatar
Great work putting it together but I really think you should exclude and that don't meet a threshold of being cheaper than the best non-limited deals.

Otherwise you're promoting vultures preying on people who can't afford it.
  15. TinBlack's avatar
Currently pay £21odd for Vodafone Superfast 2 with unlimited usage. Is there a cheaper near equivalent or better social tariff deal?
    KodaBear's avatar
Vodafone social tariff is £12 for 40Mb or £20 for 80Mb and is exempt from the annual price increases. If you contact them they should be able to switch you over to this.

If you want inclusive calls then BT may be a better fit at £15 for 40Mb+700 Mins, and the same £20 for 80Mb but also with unlimited calls.
  16. beaversrus's avatar
Is it possible to unsubscribe from this thread
    KodaBear's avatar
Yes. Click the little yellow bell at the top of the comments section.
  17. Hotlipz's avatar
Does anyone know which of these include anytime calls? Is it just the BT £20 one? Thanks
    KodaBear's avatar
Yes. BT is 700 Mins on the 40Mb package or unlimited calls on the 80Mb package. Both can be used at anytime of the day.

All the other packages either have no phone service or pay as you go calls.

I can't believe some of the poor speeds some of these providers are offering people the prices don't seem that cheap to me.

I don't qualify for a social tariff but think companies shouldn't offer such reduced speeds to those in need (edited)
    Dominatez's avatar
    Why not? Why shouldn't they?

Great if you qualify. Not so great for everyone else who gets perpetually ripped off.

Fingers crossed we have a change in around 18 months. The red party were much more generous with benefits.
    markedman's avatar
Generous with benefits? Surely you mean other people's money!

I'm not eligible for any of these offers but I can pass this information on to some of my neighbours.

The BT one is by far the best. Got my Gran on the older version years ago (which was cheaper per month but had a cap on call costs). When openreach rolled out fibre in her street I upgraded her to this.

She turned 97 and had FTTP before me, and for £20 with completely unlimited calls.

    robo989's avatar
FTTP from BT for £20, don't think so.
  25. JC7's avatar
£10 per month for unlimited data/calls is gold standard nowadays all connected to tv, laptop, ipad. Fast 5G speeds. People still pay for broadband and a landline? (edited)
    LFC7's avatar
Which provider ? How do I get this ? thanks (edited)
  26. Kerienn's avatar
Contacted Vodafone through a web form. They called me whilst I was at work telling me it will take about 20 minutes, credit check, etc.. Told them to give me a call after work around 4pm they said thats fine no problem. Needless to say they didnt call me back but the next day during working hours again. Same scenario. Then again 3rd day same scenario. Then I gave up with these clowns so stopped answering their call but they kept trying. Then I had to block their number and they kept trying for a week when they gave up.

Our Sky deal end in August, we never get to watch tv so only wanted broadband.

Went to Vodafone yesterday for the £20 a month above, instead of Sky's future £39.50.

Remember to give your 30day notice before your contract ends. Also if you have a sky q box they will now ask for it to be returned.

I think Virgin Media were doing a scheme where they give SIM only contracts completely for free for those in need. Not sure if this is it, but look it up if you need it. I heard it on the radio and they said they don't do any checks either...
  33. ureds's avatar
Thanks for sharing. Agree with the comments about speed/value. Our household would qualify for some of these but see no reason to change from our current £22pcm deal with Now for 73Mb.
    Sophiasky's avatar
Do you get calls with that as well? I'm only asking as I've been with Now for about 3 years now and I am currently paying £25.50 a month for 39Mb plus unlimited calls (Super Fibre package). The price has only gone up 50p a month over the past 3 years. Thank you. (edited)

I work for a charity that supports low income so this is a great help @MrSwitch

3 is best in our county so the £12 Smarty is our goto.

Also worth mentioning that BT also gives BTWifi access when you're out and about saving mobile data for a lot of our customers and upto 4 concurrent connections
    Hotlipz's avatar
Hi, What's the WiFi access when you're out and about? How does that work? I'm currently on pay n go for mobile with a landline at home.

    Thanks!

I'm still on the old legacy benefits - working tax credits and child tax credits, but don't seem to be eligible for any of these.
