O2 no longer offer these sims. These Sims are the cheapest way to access O2 Prioriy perks including, concert/event ticket presell, free hot drink or bacon butty(Fri/Sat) at Greggs, + more. You need to top up £10, but this doesn't expire, unlike all other PAYG, which expire after a month. The only thing you need to do is send a text, think it's every 6 months, to stop it from expiring. So based on 2p a text will keep you on O2 priority for +250 years! I have mine as second sim on dual sim phone, so useful in emergencys & perhaps as 2nd contact number.

On a previous thread someone advised calling 4444 BEFORE topping-up to verify the 3-2-1 tariff:-

"if your unsure about which rates your sim is using, simply put the sim in a phone call 4444 pick option 3 then option 2. Do this before topping up the sim"

Hubby did this when he got one last year. Hope it helps!

Mine arrived this morning, just tried this and it confirms the tariff is classic 321. Will top up later.

i have a spare number for life the easy way around it with any o2 sim card is topup when you have used the credit use o2 lend us a quid £1 then do not topup again as the sim card owes o2 a quid it will stay active forever no need for making out going calls or sending text you will receive incoming calls and text you can even use the phone on wifi
    innocent's avatar
    innocent Author
That is indeed clever thinking. We can all be indebted to o2 for life Moreover can use the sim card (although you wouldn't need it) wherever there is free WiFi!

So, after reading all the comments on this thread..... registering this, without calling customer services, will it actually allow me to get o2 Priority for many years, or is the SIM card too old, tariff no longer functioning or credit placed on account removed after 30 days?....

Several people saying opposing things and no real clarity.

    Thanks

O2 Classic PAYG tariff is still working for me.
I bought one of these Sims for 99p on eBay in June 2018, it's still going fine with the initial £10 top up, and I've have had several years of O2 Priority perks.
Our whole family now have one, and just need to make a chargeable call/text every six months to keep it going.

If you buy one, and register on the My O2 app or website, it'll tell you what tariff you're on before you decide top add £10 top up.
    accounts.o2.co.uk/signin
You should be able to receive incoming calls without topping up too.
Then, if you're happy, add your £10 top up, and you should be able to register on the O2 Priority rewards app.

I put sim in my mobile phone as instructed i then spoke with o2 calling from the sim card on 4445 i spoke with a customer service guy who said the sim card will simply go off and i will loose any topup i put on he then told me i could get a sim only at £5 per month giving 2000 mins unlimited text 1gig of internet
i could also take advantage of the £10 bigbundle as it gives double data for 3 months as i didnt want to waste my topup i through sim card away i know its only 20pnce but i dont just through money away

Speaking to O2 customer services was the mistake there, as they'll just parrot the "Classic tariff no longer exists" line (which is true to a point of course). You should have just activated it and done the top-up, as it would almost certainly have activated on O2 classic (if you purchased the right SIM card). If not, it would still have been months of freebies from O2 Rewards so still up on the deal!

From previous experience customer services they make stuff up all the time (sometimes innocently, sometimes intentionally). I had one of my Classic SIMs go inactive through my own stupidity at not making a call for 6 months (too busy eating the free vegan sausages rolls, drinking the free coffee and, at the time, watching free films at the Odeon!) They promised to reactivate the SIM (tick) and promised to credit the balance back onto the SIM (fail, so promises they make are often empty ones ).

Does this work with virgin broadband to keep my volted ( doubled ) internet speed? Just I’ve ditched o2 as bad reception here. But virgin is up for renewal soon. But want to keep my volts
    aaqeel's avatar
    aaqeel
No. Pay monthly contracts only. Get a cheaper O2 contract before you apply for VM renewal and cancel it within 14 days cooling off period. VM will still keep your Volt benefits rest of the contract. It may effect you credit rating due to new O2 contract.

I've been with 02 PAYG for over a decade and still on this Classic tariff which , for now
at least , is still available for legacy users.
So it's not true that they no longer support the tariff.
However, they are likely refusing new registrations for it, though you might be lucky. (edited)

What are the best recurring freebies at the mo? I know of the greggs options and the 2 free drinks on a Thursday, any others of note?
    premierfella's avatar
    premierfella
For me the Greggs offer is the only useful one currently.

The Merlin annual pass discount was posted as an offer recently, so must be of value to some. Disney+ for £5.99 a month similar. (The Pure Gym offer is £1 rather than free - still a solid deal for occasional use on the odd Thursday)

Do these Classic PAYG SIMs have an expiry date on when they have to be topped up or used by?

As I currently have access to an O2 Pay Monthly SIM, but if I switch networks in the future I won't anymore, so this Classic SIM could come in handy years down the line.
    Sarah7's avatar
    Sarah7
Yes they do. I purchased some a couple of years ago. They had to be activated within 12 months or so. There's another very similar listing from the same seller as this deal (simcardwarehouse) which promises the O2 Classic PAYG SIM card provided will have at least 6 months before expiry.

If you have a spare handset, perhaps stick it in there for now but remember to keep it active! (edited)

Best £10 I've ever spent on one of these classic 02 PAYG sims well over 2 years ago. Saved hundreds of pounds in that time using it with priority. The beauty of the classic sim is that one top up is all you need to do. Then keep the sim active my using it once every 180 days. You used to get £5 bonus credit on your first top after registering an account online. But that's ended now and i think they offer you a choice of freebie instead? (edited)

If you want to get 2 of these for 20p each then you need to buy 1 at a time and you can use again plus it offers the same 80% code if you buy it for a second time. I did exactly this last night and both have been dispatched and not cancelled at all. For others having issues with cancellations it does state that your Ebay account must be over 6 months old and also have a minimum of 50 feedback to buy plus you can only buy max 2 sim cards, even if you do like I did and order 1, checkout with the code and then do the same thing again.

Helpful and interesting reply. It will take me time to work through ramifications, chiefly what they offered you is good or not and if you don't top up, whether the sim card will allow you to receive incoming calls and texts in perpetuity meaning having a spare number for lifetime!

I have an O2 payg sim like this but it's a 'Simply Pay As You Go' one.

But 30p or 35p for a call or SMS. I have to either send one SMS or make a call at least once every 6 months.

I wonder if I could get one of these, port my old O2 payg number out to another provider, then port it back into one of these.

I also don't know what would happen to the £20 credit I have on my Simply Pay As You Go sim card when I port my number away from it. (edited)
    innocent's avatar
    innocent Author
For what you are thinking, you will certainly lose your £20 when doing a "port dance" which is required if you want to keep your number. Now some people are saying that the Classic 3 - 2-1 tariff may not operate. I should just keep the old sim as it is provided the credit never expires, taking into account doing a chargeable activity according to o2 stipulation.

My dad is a low user, he went from 1p mobile (as he kept getting excess credit!) to this, I bought the sims and got a PAC code and it transferred but he couldn't send texts. He could receive them and make and receive calls just not send texts. Called up o2 multiple times but they didn't fix it. In the end transferred to RWG mobile and luckily he could send texts again so not sure what happened. He had the right SMSC number. Still wouldn't mind going to 02 as calls and texts are 3p and 2p instead of 5p on RWG, but RWG had a double credit promo so he doubled his topup so that credit will last a while. I still use this classic sim as my main phone, I'm a low user too. (edited)

What's the difference with this and ordering a £30 o2 big bundles free Sim direct from o2 and only topping up £10?

Big bundles only remove the credit if you top up the bundle amount. Keep your £30 bid bundle sim under £30 credit and no problems.
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
    blahblahblah1234
Will it allow you to only top up £10?
Even so, I believe those Sim bundles only last a month, then they expect you to top up again.
