If you have ordered this 49p/month sim card for the 3GB MSE plan, it is possible when you get your sim card, there will be no bundle activated and 0 credit. You will not be able to make any calls or SMS but can receive. This is what happened to me.
To resolve it, I had to do the following
1. Check your email and look for a PIN email - its 8 digits long and it is NOT the PUK code. If you dont see it, go to step 2.
2. Go to lycamobile.co.uk/en/…us/ and message them saying you never got your 8 digit PIN to your email.
3. Wait patiently 1 day and keep monitoring your email inbox / junk folder for an email
From: lycamobile@lycamobile.co.uk
Subject: Subject : PIN RETRIGGER 33891234
4. On your lyca mobile device, call the following number based on the above PIN example
*116*33891234#
5. A minute later, it should activate your bundle.

You should now have 3GB data and unlimited mins and sms.

I’m about two weeks in to my Lyca deal. I know they get slated a lot round here and it’s understandable (poor customer service), but once my number was ported over to them it’s been fine as a network for me personally. I get decent 5g where I’m at, 100mbps. Once my 6 months introductory deal finishes, I’ll ditch and switch

From my experience the main problem is that they don't reliably take the renewal payment every month. And a single 'failed' payment kicks you out of the discounted bundle and you are then forced to PAC off to another network or pay full price for a bundle.

Word of warning... They may hold your PAC ransom until you give them the exact personal details you may have given them such as DOB. Useful to bear in mind in case you gave fake details.

I vowed never to ever use them for more than a month, but their switch to the EE network persuaded me to give them one last shot at medium-term use.

I have lyca as a backup sim, never needed to call CS with any sim, had no problems. Works in areas o2 and three didn't.
  3. Jim1_Smith's avatar
Until they get some semblance of a usable customer service department, it's a hard no from me!

Lyca are the absolute worst. I had notification late night a few days ago of a failed payment (no reason why, account was fine). I was cut off four minutes later leaving me travelling late at night with no phone service. I've only been with Lyca a month and I've already put in my PAC request to leave. (edited)

Does anybody know if there's a way to get these offers to come up as direct debits?

I joined Lyca last month, fantastic value and network service for me, but I needed it to work as a direct debit for my bank account perks. Customer service via email is slow, generic and they find it difficult to answer basic questions, which is not surprising considering how cheap they are.

    Thanks!
    premierfella's avatar
I'm pretty sure the answer is no, and frankly I wouldn't trust them with a direct debit given random overcharging in the past. I don't even trust them with a normal debit card now - just a virtual card with a small amount that will basically just fail payment if they try and take more than the deal price every month.

Could you just use this for data as a second SIM in a phone? How easy is it to cancel just before the 6 months is up?
    baggielad's avatar
It's easier, just make sure you register online when you get your SIM - you need the ref number on the plastic surround to register. (edited)

Question to the people that have moved from Lyca to Lyca to new 6 months contracts. I have just called them to port my number to the new contracts. Customer rep told me that it has to be done as a SIM swap (not as PAC transfer) therefore my new (cheap) 6 months contract would be replaced with the plan that is on my original number. I am pretty sure that I have done it in the past... Could someone confirm which one is correct please ?
    mutley1's avatar
you have to port out to another provider and back again if you want to take advantage of the promotional 6 months price again and keep the same number.
  8. jodie98's avatar
Is there a way to put a spending cap on this, to stop it going over the free allowance?
    afn's avatar
Once the allowance is finished you can’t use it until it renews. You would have to top up with credit and be charged at standard rates, buy another bundle or wait for current bundle to renew. (edited)

Just be aware of. Most of the deal like this either from Lyca /Lebara, they are using a CPA (continuous payment authority). It is recurring payment where you give a company permission to regularly take cash from your debit or credit card. They use this payment method instead of DD for a reason. It is a sneaky way to take your money, it will cost your time and effort to cancel it. It is the same with the way online casino taking your money.

Unlike DD the CPA is much more difficult to cancel, you can not cancel it by yourself as you do not see them on your account. The only way you could cancel it is to contact your Bank CS wasting a lot of your time just for a very tiny gain. If you spend 30 minutes on the phone, the calling cost might be zero (you are using this deal) but it could cost you £20+ if you account your time / opportunity cost.

This sort of payment should be made illegal. As you will only realize it if you check your statement regularly. (edited)

Use a virtual card and cancel that card instead of the payment plan. (edited)

So ironic that, of all the networks in the UK, Lyca is the only one that offers eSIM on pay-as-you-go.

I'm having to going on a sudden long journey and my 12GB data has run out. I literally just ordered the 45p deal via eSIM about 15 minutes ago, and I'm already up and running.

If only their customer service and payment reliability was up to the standard of the superb network infrastructure they're piggybacking on!
    afn's avatar
I’ve been on the 1p 3GB deal for the last 6 months using eSIM and it’s been great. Last payment of promo offer was just taken so I have cancelled auto renew and deleted my card details. Will most likely take another 6 month promo offer out as happy to use this as a backup SIM alongside my primary 3 line. Only thing missing is Wi-Fi calling and VOLTE but this is due at some point in the future as stated on their press release when they changed from using O2 to using EE. (edited)

45x worse than their previous 1p SIM... but still reasonable value if you're going to ditch & switch after 6m. (edited)

Lyca is on a roll. Lebara take heed at least with six months duration for initial pricing even if it is higher than Lyca. (edited)

My existing 1p lyca for last 6 month also coming to an end this month (all in a good experience/ service) and looks like this offer still valid and have taken out another sim with them. How easy is it to transfer the existing phone number. I will be creating a new account. Thanks
    mutley1's avatar
did you take out the new sim today on 45p?
  15. Ragdoll_Pigeon's avatar
My only issue with Lyca was a lot of spam calls to begin with. Registered with TPS and they've stopped. Apart from that, since they switched network from O2 to EE the signal where I am definitely improved. My 1p a month deal is about to go up to full price so I've got Lebara to port to on their 49p a month deal that was supposed to be 3gb data but they've given me 5gb...
    Pokora's avatar
is it reliable that service ?
    meaning TPS

I just got the 0.89 deal not sure if it's worth the extra 44p a month for 2gb but I can't be bothered porting in and out lol
    mutley1's avatar
i had this dilema with lebara where i just got the 49p deal and then the 5p deal came up!
  18. mutley1's avatar
i have 3 lyca sims now and they are all fine for me since they switched to EE, so happy days as lebara has become relatively quite expensive.
  19. kriss57's avatar
Rubbish company, had the last 1p a month deal and came off moved to Lebara it was soo bad. WARNING check them out on Trustpilot (edited)
  20. VWMan's avatar
Surly for the few pence they are worth trying to see how it works out for you. I've have used them and found no issues except my phone will not hotspot, but I think that is just my phone.
  21. Kibizi's avatar
Question, does anyone take these deals as a backup sim. I currently have an ESIM so I could easily order this to bump up my monthly data allowance?
    Rufuss's avatar
I do. I'm a driver, so I rely heavily on GPS signals. I can switch between my Lyca and Lebara SIMs easily and will always be able to get a signal.
  22. brocky1223's avatar
Just be aware, don't use this as a main SIM card unless you don't care about security at all. This is only meant to be used as a throwaway or as a roaming card (2nd sim)
    hull1270's avatar
What security issues are you thinking of brocky?
  23. RakeshNaik's avatar
Currently with lyca paying 4.85.can I switch to this deal and retain my existing number?
    Mal786's avatar
You need to port out to other networks and then port back to lyca
  24. unclem0nty's avatar
Word of warning, EU roaming is AWFUL via Lyca. Almost never works. Had a cheapo Lebara SIM before that had no such issues.
    afn's avatar
I went to the Canary Islands and it worked great. Managed to stream a Liverpool pre season game with no problems.

I would rather communicate with people using letters than use them.

Utterly disgusting experience with their website and customer service.

Is it just me, to have better speeds than Lebara around Ilford, London area
    mutley1's avatar
i think since lyca moved to EE, they are better than lebara in the cities
  27. Zneloo's avatar
Please don't get Lyca. They are the worst sim company out there. They just cancelled my bundle for no reason. Custom service was a disaster, now I'm looking for a new sim
    TechnoDonkey's avatar
Usually you lose the bundle because the payment has failed, or you activated too late

I got stung by the penny Lebara deal, so I'm going to swap over to this. Although the reports don't give much confidence, howeevr I will be sure to port out to something else in 5~6 months time!
  30. Andrisakins's avatar
What is the easiest way to cancel it again? Could I just cut off my direct debit and that would be it?
    afn's avatar
It’s not direct debit its recurring card payment. Delete your card from your account, switch off auto renew. Port the number out. Those are a few options. (edited)

My son starts secondary school - this seems perfect for 6 months. Was going to just get a free sim and top up £10 but this one seems better for 6 months.

Not sure what is going on at Lyca. 3rd month payment of the 1.49 10gb deal due to go out and I get this message

"Hello from Lyca Mobile! The first month of your 6 month offer will end in 10 days. Your plan will get renewed at the offer price of £2.50 against the standard rate of £6.50."

Where they got £2.50 from I do not know especially as on 6 mth deal which is only £1.49 and £5.99 thereafter

    :/ :/

    Has anyone ordered this recently?
I used the 3gb mse link and they charged me £0.49 but there is no 3gb bundle applied to my account.

It is like i got a payg sim card with 0 credit. I cant make calls but I can receive them.

Have reached out to their CS to help me. Hopefully they can apply and activate the correct bundle to my account.

Not a good initial impression. (edited)

I’m in the same boat. I just got off the phone to customer service and they have escalated it. I’m not sure why it didn’t come as a sim only plan which was already set up. Such a faff!
  35. 5YLH3T's avatar
Does 5G work with iPhone on Lyca? Read somewhere that it doesn’t work with iPhones but not sure if that has changed with the move to EE?
    OhTheMajesty's avatar
Yes it does. But you have to physically change it to 5G in the settings. I think it sets to 3G by default, so if someone put the sim in their iPhone and has zero clue what to do, they would assume the network coverage is poor because they’d only get 3G
  36. nidgesy's avatar
Stupid question but does this 3gb renew every month or is it a one off bundle? Just want a cheap sim for my son to play pokemon go on
    afn's avatar
It renews every month as long as you have auto renew switched on. If you toggle it off during the promotional period you will lose the promotional offer tho so just watch out for that.
  37. Soni210's avatar
Sadly the network seems to be deteriorating..both calls and internet..the longer lyca has moved to EE, the worse it seems to get
  38. Pokora's avatar
Could you order a second sim with the same email ?
    afn's avatar
Someone on here said you have to use another email address.
  39. Supa's avatar
Is this for new customers only? Is it possible with a new email to make a new account, I'd assume they would recognise the debit card/bank details etc?
    afn's avatar
I need to do the same too as my 1p for 3GB deal is running out. Someone on here said to use a new email address. (edited)
  40. be2st's avatar
Like other said. My renewal payment was failed due to an expiry credit card, but it wasn't expiry. So they removed the promo bundle. Be warned ! (edited)
