Well I did not believe how bad they were until I got a sim last week.
It would not activate, CS were rubbish.
Got told they would send me a text when it would be fixed and it will not be longer than 2 hrs.
I waited 2 days and then got PAC code as I liked the number I have just ported it across to an Asda sim today and it should complete tomorrow.
It nothing like Lebara avoid at all costs.

    Hi All,

Thought I would write information on activating the plan when you want to. I found the process confusing and the literature from Lyca useless. However this is what I did and it worked.

Before doing anything I popped the new SIM into my phone and waited for all the setting to download. Then I went online and registered an account (you need the PUK number on the SIM card holder. I did not top up or do anything with plans at this stage.

If you have a dual SIM make sure you do the below from your Lyca Sim (I disabled my other one to make it easier).

Then you need your Lyca pin number. When I ordered I was sent an email which had activation PIN code in it (starting ORD). It seems you can ignore this and should be sent a separate email (possibly when SIM is delivered) which has a Pin Number in it. Mine was 8 digits lets say 12345678.

Then the only way I could find to activate the plan was to dial *116*Pin# so for example say *116*12345678# . I then pressed the call button and it came up with something (didn't manage to capture sorry) and said I would get a text message to confirm. As of yet (about 30 mins) I have not had a text but the plan is showing online as an active plan and Auto Renewal is on.

So when I go to account manager and then click on Auto renew plan I see the below (I went for the 4GB at £0.05 a month).

    49548243-s4Ub8.jpg
On the letter with my SIM it stated 'you can activate your plan through your phone, online (via My account' ....'. I had a look online and could not find anywhere on the UK site to do this (I could on USA). I didn't want to ring so was left using the text method.

I must say the whole process seems needlessly complicated compared to Lebara/Asda/Three and does not fill me with confidence going forward. I want to port my number in but am going to leave this a few days while I try it out. Hopefully someone will find the above useful.

I fully agree with you, it's not the simplest of Sims to activate.I couldn't understand the Indian support staff whilst trying to get advice. They are obviously going through the script supplied by the line manager's (So I can't blame them for that).I finally got my SIM activated and now it's working fine

Off topic but does anyone know if I can still activate the SIM card that I ordered from the Lebara 1p deal from last year?
    KodaBear's avatar
90 Days to activate a Lebara SIM from ordering. 120 Days for Lyca.
  5. carrieavonlady's avatar
Do i ask Lebara for my Pac code before I activate my Lyca sim? If I change my mind and dont want to keep my no , does the act of asking for the Pac code end my Lebara contract?
    KodaBear's avatar
If you want to keep your number and close your Lebara account text PAC to 65075. If you want to lose your number and close your account text STAC to 65075.

Whichever you choose, your code is valid for one month, and must be given to Lyca in order to close the account at Lebara.

Alternatively just go onto your Lebara account and disable auto renew. It will stop future payments and it will just revert to basic pay as you go.

You should activate BOTH your Lyca SIM and bundle before filling in the number port request form.

Does anyone know if your plan will be activated from the day you signed up for the plan or from the time you insert the sim to your phone? I'm still using lebara mobile atm and want to use the remaining monthly allowance before activating this sim
    KodaBear's avatar
The plan starts on the day you enter your PIN Number in the order confirmation email. That can be delayed up to 120 Days from otder the last time I checked.
  7. Mike_Wood25's avatar
I know this is cheap but please please don’t use. I’ve had no data at all for 4 days and the CS is horrendous. Stay with Lebara. I bet you
  8. Jaenova's avatar
How long do they give you before the sim has to be activated?
    KodaBear's avatar
    120 days from order

Signed up with Lyca 2 months ago (switched from Lebara). I ignored the negative comments here as I thought it can't be that bad. It is as bad as all the negative comments suggest, I'm waiting for my SIM to switch back to Lebara. Don't waste your time.
    CrabLasagne's avatar
What do you mean by bad? As in network coverage?
  12. FatGeordie's avatar
So I signed up, it took the money from my bank account and then popped up saying Transaction Failed??

I've had no email confirmation either...
    KodaBear's avatar
The payment won't actually be taken. It will just be a pre auth that drops off after a week. Try again.

If there's no email confirmation, there's no order.
  13. 19DembaBa19's avatar
All these negative comments is persuading me to stay with Lebara but my sim is ending this month. Do you think Lebara will have another 1p offer or shall I switch to Lyca Mobile and vice versa
  14. addy2013's avatar
Since taking up the offer and transferring my number from Lebara to Lycamobile, I am receiving spam and scam calls on a daily basis. Not many people are aware of this number so I am pretty annoyed with the constant bombardment of scam calls. I never had this issue with Lebara.
    KodaBear's avatar
Register your number with the TPS And make sure you’ve opted out of any marketing from Lyca.

I’ve definitely not had this experience with them.

How much is roaming in Japan?
    KodaBear's avatar
Expensive. Just like pretty much every UK Network. I'd suggest picking up a local SIM or MiFi device.

Avoid Lyca, I was on the lebara 1.99 a month promo for 6 months, it was about to expire and Lyca had a 99p promo for 3 months which I ended up purchasing, the actual SIM came fairly quickly however when I popped it in my phone and tried registering it they said it was a PAYG SIM and not the 30 rolling contract plan that I signed up for. I called up Lyca customer service but they were extremely unhelpful and ultimately did nothing. It was only 99p so I am not to bothered about the cost, more so about the fact that I paid for a service which was not provided and because the SIM did not activate the correct promo I effectively had to go without a phone for about 4 days or so while a got a new SIM only contract sorted (which was Lebara by the way and worked perfectly). Lebara might be a bit more pricy per month but I have never had any issues with them.
    ace.master's avatar
Did you follow the instructions to properly activate the sim and the plan? Lyca’s sims work slightly differently than others where the sims aren’t preloaded with your purchased plan. All their sims are essentially ‘blank’ sims when you get them, and you have to use the activate code that they emailed you when you first ordered the sim in order to ‘load’ the plan onto the sim.

While Lyca’s CS aren’t the best, this certainly doesn’t sound like Lyca’s fault tbh.
  17. lookatmywadd's avatar
What happens after 6 months? Can you switch to the next deal on offer or are you contractually obliged to stay for a further 6 months at £4.75?
    KodaBear's avatar
There is no contract. It’s pay as you go with a monthly bundle. Switch off auto renew for the bundle and walk away after a month, 6 months or whenever you want. No commitment.
  18. andrewmaclennan2's avatar
    Stay away terrible customer service
  19. Rick-E's avatar
    Awful experience.
Have tried this but whilst Lyca has already deducted the funds from my bank account, I've received no email communication to confirm or notify me about my order.

I got the "Transaction Failed!" notice on the Lyca website after hitting the PAY button.

    Money was taken though.

No way to speak to an advisor on the phone.

    Emailed Lyca but no response

    My advice is to AVOID
    dips's avatar
Might be worth getting in touch with your Bank and let them know. If you paid by Credit Card, you can request a charge back to get your money back. You can try calling Lyca on 0207 132 0322

After reading all the horror stories above I expected the worst but my experience was straight forward and smooth. Sim arrived on time and activated with the 8 digits code provided. Then transfered my number over the next day and my bill is correct 1p. So far so good.... (edited)
    DoublePortingDad's avatar
Yeah, it seems possible that a high percentage of the complaints are from people that do not read the manual.
  21. Kam-s's avatar
Has anyone noticed their data allowance getting used up extremely quickly with Lyca with limited use?

My average monthly usage is 3.5-4gb of data, my Lyca data ran out in 5 days...
    hecatae's avatar
Yes saw that happen last year.
  22. Canopus's avatar
Think this is the last day for the 1p deal? can anyone confirm, TIA.

Sorry have another question too, have they phased out the Active PIN code that you get from the email? as I've just purchased one and this time on the email it didn't have it, can anyone confirm this too, TIA. (edited)
    Rayleigh's avatar
Yes today is the last day. However it could be extended we never know.

And yes they have phased out the Pin code. So now its more easier to port over your sim. You'll receive an SMS confirmation once the port is complete.

  25. jstbusiness's avatar
So, let me understand this...6 months for 1p thereafter full price. But it says you can cancel anytime! So what stops me from cancelling after 6 months?
    Dyslexic_Dog's avatar
You'll probably want to cancel long before the six months is up due to all the agrevation and recinding on the 1p offer!
  26. hoggs's avatar
Does anyone know of requesting a PAC code from Lebara and transferring to Lyca will cancel my Lebara plan? E.g. when the number is transferred then I don't have anything with Lebara and will it close?
    ace.master's avatar
Yes once your number is transferred over your old plan will end immediately.
  27. d_q's avatar
This has probably been asked before, but how long do I have to activate the sim? can I wait like 120 days?
    DoublePortingDad's avatar
    120 days Lyca
    90 days Lebara
  28. ec9wrr's avatar
    no wifi calling is frustrating
  29. AFSARS's avatar
Now this is scary, after reading the comments . I wish I never ordered it
    KodaBear's avatar
If you don’t want to use it just don’t activate it and you’ll not be charged any future payments.

In all honesty though, as long as you follow the instructions it should be fine. There’s a lot of complaints you see on here which are purely because they didn’t read the order confirmation email fully for example, then wonder why their SIM card isn’t working or doesn’t have their mins/texts/data applied for example.

I had a problem trying to activate the sim using the pin they send you by email to set you up for the right Lyca plan. Tried 3 times using the 8 digit activation PIN code in the email. So it failed to work as my phone had 2 sims in it, it was defaulting to the Lebara sim everytime so stopped it in settings and did the *116* PIN Number# and it activated the plan finally. Horrible way of doing this, Lebara is so much easier to activate and use. Now I have to create an account and stop auto renew as I am porting my old number to Lyca for a few days then porting out back to a new Lebara 6 month contract - 85p for 5gb plan, all this hassle just to keep my old number.
    MrBestDeal's avatar
Hi, I also have problem with activating the SIM. I couldn't see any pin code in my emails
  31. SummerLovin's avatar
I purchased the 4gb for 5p per month plan for my daughter. I noticed she sometimes uses more than 5gb's PM. She knows she have to use less but is there a way to cap the amount of GB's you can use per month on the Lyca website account.
    fahimmi10's avatar
    Author
She shouldn't be able to use more than 5GB unless she has a balance on her account and has exceeded her bundle allowance. Is her bundle showing as having used the full 5GB?

Don't trust Lycamobile. Ordered a SIM from them 29 November last year. It never arrived. Still hasn't. Their customer services kept saying it's coming it's coming... I asked them to send another. Nothing has ever arrived. Eventually I asked them to refund the first 85p (yeah, I know) payment and cancel the SIM as I couldn't wait any longer. I sent that email on 4 January. They've not answered yet and they haven't refunded that payment either. I'm sure it's fine (perhaps) if everything goes well, but their CS is appalling. I wouldn't touch them again.
  33. Kandy's avatar
For those that have activated the sim have you had any issues? Arrived today and activated the sim and registered. I can get incoming calls but if I try and make one it just says 'you have insufficient credit please top up' so doesn't allow my to make any calls. Any ideas?
    KodaBear's avatar
You activated the SIM. But did you activate the bundle as per the instructions in your order confirmation email?
  34. WillPS's avatar
I'm on the 1p 12gb deal from last summer.

It was a nightmare, I was charged the wrong amount the first 2 months. Their support system is inpenetrable.

The moment the deal is finished, I'm off and I'm never touching them again.

Lebara however I have nothing but compliments for. I do notice the speed difference between them and Vodafone directly, especially when in a more congested area (London in particular) so I'm probably going to return to Vodafone when my deal's finished - that said it's totally useable.
  35. MrJuice's avatar
how easy is it to stop the auto renew with lyca? With lebara it's as simple as toggling a switch on main page of account.
    Gztsby's avatar
It is so easy that you probably won't have to do it as you'll be lucky if the sim arrives, and if it does you'll be lucky to get it activated, and if it does you'll be lucky if it auto renews, and if it does you'll be lucky if it auto renews at the advertised offer price and not full price.
  36. Dan_Lightowler's avatar
Lyca are awful. Do not buy.
  37. G0rdonGekko's avatar
    Ordered a few of these.

My experiences with Lyca, as a first timer with them.

Their customer service has been ok for me. Was a bit concerned with some of the comments.

Pin emails were going to spam folder.

Had a problem with first SIM, as couldn't make voice calls after activation.

Contacted CS, who logged it with tech. Sorted within 24 hours. No problems porting across. (edited)
    SR4's avatar
Would you be able to tell me the subject line of the email with the PIN in it please? Nothing from Lyca in my spam folder (edited)
  38. SummerLovin's avatar
Will the port in to Lycamobile still work if my contract expires on Tuesday 7th Feb with Lebara. As I need to keep my existing number not the new one from Lyca. As its Friday I heard nothing happens over the weekend. I don't want to be without service as I only work weekends and need the service running. Would the expired plan effecting port out of Lebara to Lyca.
    fahimmi10's avatar
    Author
The plan expiry won't affect your port out of Lebara. Your number will still be active, just without any bundles (so you will still be able to receive calls and texts)

Does anyone receive an order confirmation email or something? I have been trying but it always fails at the payment, but I see few transactions on my card processed £0.01, and no emails so far... (edited)
    KodaBear's avatar
If there’s no email, there’s no order.

It will just be a pre-auth transaction that will drop off after a week
