hows the camera? i've just ordered this and plan on returning the mi 9t pro! whats your honest review of the phone?

iainhb

Cracking price, paid £580 for the 256/8gb version and I've been impressed. Screen is good, accurate and bright. Came from a Mi 9T (wasn't too impressed with the SD730 e.g lag/freeze sharing photos in whatsapp) and havn't missed the AMOLED from that. I've had a couple of updates, currently on 1st Sept security patch, no word on official android 10 though. Plenty of custom Roms if that's your thing though.

yoyo59

only thing that worries me is support? how good is asus with support and how decent is this display? hhmm

MrSwitch

Cheapest the phone has ever been, and a bargain at this price for a snappy 855, from the uk, with that super freaky camera.

MrSwitch

Yeah, saw it, it's fine I'll leave it how it is, cheers anyway (y)

Asus also did the same with their tablets a few years ago. They innovated with Padfone a few years back, they should have kept that concept going as now I believe that phone tablet combo with a keyboard and current Snapdragon 8x5 processor would be a killer combo.

MrSwitch

Yeah, it was on people's lips for all of 4 mins, until something shinier and newer was announced, either marketing, or came out at just the wrong time, plus the fact Asus UK have had zero stock up until recently

Shirrou

Heat added switchy. Sad to see how fast the hype for this phone died. But I guess Asus chose to cannibalise itself with the ROG II.

dlo247

Been using one for a couple of months. Didn't pay quite this much but so far so good!

MrSwitch

Aye, it's not massively available everywhere, hence the pricing I guess.

I would say it's great but obviously I'm not that impartial. The Pixel is still the camera king along with it's Gcam app. Plenty of comparisons of the Z6 on YouTube vs 1+ and others, have a look. If you are purely looking for a camera phone then there probably are better performers but this is a better all round package. The camera has been getting better with the frequent software updates and that isn't to say it is bad!

JoshuaMarsay

What's the camera like? I'm currently using a pixel 3 XL but tempted by this phone!

w4x4s

Totally with you about the screen, that was absolute nonsense in terms of the claims how bad it was. I have come from an AMOLED and have had it up against several Samsungs and a Nokia 8 sirocco not a very noticeable difference, it's a really good screen! The funny thing is 600 nits (max brightness on Z6) is a lot brighter then most TVs without full HDR. Being able to run my personal and work numbers is a huge plus with the dual sim, as I was carrying two phones. Also got a memory card running too, not many phones can do that now! I've got the same case too, didn't fancy the clear one in the box. I wonder if there are going to be slimmer cases in the future, as it does add a little bit of a bulk to the phone. Not a big deal at the moment though.

kman0013

Yeah I'm real impressed also, though I haven't used it heavily yet due to being busy but battery is holding up well. Don't see any issues with the screen some reviewers made it sound like it was terrible but its actually pretty good. I've ordered that screen protector now, also just received this case today which is pretty good, much better then the free one included. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AICEK-Compatible-Zenfone-ZS630KL-Silicone/dp/B07T2X62X1/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=zenfone+6+case&qid=1567355031&s=gateway&sprefix=zenfone+6+cas&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExUTZYQUhOU0NNTlUmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3NDgyNTEzVUxXVExNTlNNS0EwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0MjgzNzQySkJEQlNaR0tDSjhMJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= 2 for the price of 1, cant complain.

w4x4s

Very impressed, I was coming from a 3 year old Android running Lollipop (embarrassed) . Will have better idea after a week though but I'm glad I got this instead of a 1+7 Pro or K20 Pro. I went with this screen protector which should have arrived today but is delayed.... Typical (lol) Looking on the forums and reviews, a lot of screen protectors are more of a miss then a hit. They seem to not stick well, block some screen pixels or are oversized due to the curvature on the edge of the screen.

Still sketchy coverage at the moment including London but yes it's the way forward.

sam_of_london

It is more about USA than UK. USA is very big and uses mmwave frequency for 5G as USA ran out of other low band frequencies for 5G . Even 4G is much faster on 5G phone due to Mimo etc . And I have 5G signal both at home and work so cannot think of going back to 4G. And I did not pay top dollar 1600 for 5G phone like in the video , only £550. So basically if you live in 5G area, then it is the way to go. Otherwise buy a 5G phone on contract , and sell it on ebay as 5G phones are selling for a premium on ebay etc. People are not foolish paying premium for 5G phones.

w4x4s

Haha I'm not sour. I don't think you understand how 5G wavelengths work. Yes, London may have some spots of coverage but what about the rest of London and the UK. I don't even detest your comment about phones losing value but I am correct in saying it is in its infancy at the moment. this is about the US but works on the same principal. Out of curiosity how much are you paying for your 5G coverage or are you with 3?

Mr.Nutts

lol I know you didn't say it's not their money, but you said "Don't waste your money on 4G" and my point was that it's their decision. :)

sam_of_london

I never said it is not their money. I just said read the writing on the wall and use your common sense. This is not a cheap phone, nearly £500.

How long do you reckon for that price on amazon?

Barry_Wilkinson

That's why I would never deal with a company like this. It may be only a small number of people who have problems but when dealing with a company in China that has totally different sales rules, also the distance involved make negotiation nearly impossible if something goes wrong and I'm the unlucky person this stuff happens to.

MA3STRO

Sweet https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/asus-zenfone-6-midnight-black-6128gb-amazonde-559-496-3243928 8) :D

MA3STRO

I may still get it. It's about £300 from Gearbest; which is fantastic as the Mi 8 was about £450+ or so from China this time last year. The front camera of the zenphone is significantly better though (since it's the main camera).

Barry_Wilkinson

Like I said in the comments above you can still get a mi 9 from Amazon Spain for £390 and it's got UK warranty as it in Europe. The phone flies. I have had constant updates since I owned it and quite frankly for what you get for the cash no other company comes near. I ordered mine 3 days later I had it in my hand and I've never regretted it for a second. My mates have Samsung s10s and they are slow and laggy in comparison.

I can confirm the MI 9 does have band 20, I got it from Amazon Spain after waiting too long for this. If it does eventually go on sale I may still pick it up.

Rob_K

If you can, I'd hold on a bit longer, Clifbel. There are multiple rumours that the Redmi K20 Pro is going to be launched in Western markets as the Mi 9T Pro (or maybe the Pocofone F2). The Mi 9T (without the 'Pro') uses a mid-range chipset and a lower-quality camera sensor compared with the Pro. One other bit of info about the K20: it doesn't have band 20, which we use in the UK for 4G reception. You'll still be able to use 4G but without band 20 your reception won't be as good. If Western versions of the K20 Pro are released they're highly likely to feature band 20.

gazm1990

I love how there's plenty of units to go around the reviewers and even JerryRigEverything got hold of one to just destroy but they can't provide them to actual paying customers!

End of July is now posted on the web-page, ended up buying the Mi 9t from Amazon Italy.

For the price this is nearly faultless. My last 2 phones have had IR blasters so I would've liked it to have one but it has pretty much everything else, big battery, dual sim with dedicated micro SD, NFC, headphone jack, and stereo speakers. Better than the OnePlus 7 imo

Doogee F5 from china has 3gb ram and costs less than £100. Many hukd members have reported getting it for around £82 to £85 after cashback. It‘s worth a look. About to order it myself.

Wotdog

Had the phone a year. Bought it knowing I wasnt going to pay silly early adapter costs for 4G and wanted something cheap - £200 at the time. Resolution and colours when watchin video is excellent and still gets commented on when someone new sees it. Remember when apple and samsung tell you theres a quillion dots per inch, you're not feckin owls and most is wasted on the human eye . It is the quickest, least buggy phone I have owned (seriously cannot remember the last forced reboot) but I did own a crappy samsung 3 before this which put me off samsung for life. A year on and the only reason I would buy higher spec is for the cheap 4G available.... But I won't cos I don't stream a lot of video on my phone . I don't actually know anyone who does.

ssjinzo

Need a dual sim with a sd slot as well. The moto g 2nd gen 3g is probably the phone iam after. Iam not too concern with performance and a camera. The snapdragon 400 performance is fine. The price less 150

nicotine

I have been looking for a dual sim phone myself also for a while and for me there wasn't too much options. First your need to decide whether this dual sim phone is the going to be your main phone or not? For me it is so my requirements are slightly higher if I were to buy a second phone with dual sim just for travel. 1) I have both Vodafone and O2 LTE sim so my first requirement is LTE FDD band 20 support in which many of the dual sim phones do not support. 2) A lot of dual sims phones these days shares the second sim with SDcard . It means unless the phone has large internal memory, if you want to use dual sims you are only limited to 16GB e.g. Honor 7. Basically my shortlist end up with two models. The Oneplus2 64Gb or the Lenovo Vibre Shot. The Oneplus2 is higher in spec but no SDcard slot but 64GB internal memory. The Lenovo Vibre Shot has 32GB internal memory, has dual sim slots and a separate SDcard slot. Both can support LTE on either sim. It was hard to pick but I choose the Oneplus2 at the end as the Lenovo Vibre Shot I can only buy from Ebay.
