I’m after black, based on google reviews, this would appear to be the best stuff on market? I’ve a 70m fence (1.8m height) to do so want something that will last few years. Any idea how many litres would be needed? It’s currently a faded black so hopefully one coat

Sorted ✅😄

It depends what colour you're after because not all shades are priced the same. For example, the 9l for £17 is only showing 4 colours available on the website.

9L £17 in B&M is a better deal

HI thanks so much for taking the time to reply and for all of the additional details, really grateful. Thanks again, it looks fantastic, well done you! (highfive)

Well, I had 8 days off work and it took that long to do the lot, but I applied 4 coats to pretty much every visible wooden surface and my garden contains a lot of wood. I also had electrics and other stuff to do, and I wasn't particularly rushing either. The sprayer I used is this one from B&Q. I made a quick decision as I needed it that day and was also picking up the paint from there anyway. It works great, although for the volume of spraying I had to do, I found myself filling it up fairly frequently. Not so much it became annoying though. What I would say about the spraying, and especially on rough wood, is that the first coat will look like you barely sneezed any paint near it. Coats two and three will begin to look much better. For me, coat 4 really finished it off to perfection. You'll need to move the sprayer quickly enough so paint doesn't blob up in one spot, but slowly enough to cover the area you're spraying. If you do hang about in one spot for too long, just make sure there's a brush nearby so you can brush the paint about a bit. 1st coat looked horrible and once dried looked even worse than that. It gets better though, silver copse on rough wood looks amazing.

Hi this looks great, thanks so much for sharing the pictures! I was curious as to what it would look like on older brown panels so this is great to see. You said that you used a sprayer - would you be able to reccomend one please as i now have loads of fences to paint! : o ) Cheers

Anyone got any recommendations for a treatment on planed wood before using this?

Cuprinol 5 years Ducksback all weather shed and fence paint. Reduced from £14 to £10. Online and in store. Delivery £5. No click and collect.

Washes off after a few months in wet weather, despite 2 coats. Best solution - Bedec Barn Paint, but it’s pricey.

It's rubbish. Everyone got suckered in, it is better, but not good enough or even close. The only solution is garden shades or better.

Excellent stuff. Really does last, unlike certain other "one coat" products. Heat.

Good price, good paint

Totally agree - didn't even last a year on our decking (annoyed)

With light use ours has lasted just over a year, worked for us though, i built a raised platform using decking boards for the kids to play on under a tree and didn't want it to be slippery. Can't comment on the price though.

I'll update the thread in a year's time based upon how well it does or doesn't work ;)

Not a great price, and a rubbish product, doesn't even last a year.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply (y)

No the exact opposite, you don't want to have used anything before. You want the fence paint to soak into the wood and form a barrier against the weather. If it's previously been painted with any sort of waterproofing the paint hasn't got anywhere to soak into and dries on it. Then when it rains the new barrier breaks and it flakes and washes off. Some of the paints do say on them if they're for previously treated or untreated. You can still paint them but you'll be painting then a lot more regular to keep the colour. Same with new panels and shed. They usually have some sort of treatment and it's usually advised not to redo them straight away with another paint. It's rare for them to wash off or not stick well and usually user error because of the above if the do or if painted without the wood being dry enough.

I've used the green version of this Ducksback paint on my fences, brilliant stuff and it lasts. Highly recommended.

What do you mean by treated? I'm.about to paint my garden fences with silver corpse. Should I be using something else beforehand?

£11 at B&M and the Range, just painted kids playhouse, worried with all these negatives..

Which sprayer are you using please?

Thanks. Got the last 6 in my local and I'll buy another 3 or 4 when I'm passing another branch.

We used this on our fence. Quite a nice colour.

Done about 19 panels now with kids help :D used around 7 of these 5l ones to cover the old brown colour, 2 coats were required at some points 3 coats from one side with a brush. That is only one side... I have used Karcher to clean the fence before several times and the wood is very porous and probably needs sanding or changing. I have a sprayer (cheeky) , but i love to see my kids putting the effort in to it and it actually lasts longer when not sprayed.
