Thanks insight is a wonderful thing..

BTW, as a starting point you might want to have a look at, or even get a subscription to rarewhisky101 - I think you would find their insight into what is achievable in terms of appreciation interesting.

LOL. In that case I will wish you the best of luck.

Good whisky but I prefer Project XX

I really enjoyed this and paid £40 back in October

Yeah my favourite is the 12yr old and usually buy a bottle when it’s on offer £25 which it is just now in tesco. I wonder what the project XX is like :/ might ask for one at xmas lol

I thought it was fine. It's definitely different to their standard offering but I'm not sure it's worth the mark up over their 12yo. I wouldn't pay £45 for its for sure.

I'm actually quite fond of this whisky, though I got no hoppy notes.

Very good motto I must say (y)

I've never tried Highland Park or Strathisla. Currently got an Aberlour on the go and it's decent. Old Pultney is one of my favourites. My motto is, if you can't decide which whisky to buy, get them both.

I remember when I was 11 and I drank Glendfissich for breakfast with mommy.

I do love a bottle of Glenfiddich. It still takes me back to being 13 and drinking it in the Greenwood pub in Horwich. Good old days. I find it a very pleasant whisky and very easy to drink.

Thanks for this

My favourite glenfiddich is rich oak, infact it’s in my top 3, absolutely adore that one. I just didn’t like the 12, tbh can’t even remember why, the 15 is more enjoyable but I’m going of on a tangent here.

Again i have both.... Don't judge lol I still prefer the Glenfiddich, it has more to it than the arbelour

Personally don’t like the 12, id go aberlour myself

I have both and actually prefer the 12yr old so I'd definitely start with that :)

Spotted this in my local ASDA. Seems the deal is online too.

It was online and in-store. Must have expired.

Must just have been an in-store deal as online price is £38

The use of caramel colourant is a pervasive practice in the scotch whisky industry. It is usually (and proudly) noted on the bottle that the whisky does not contain artificial colouring, with those that do not mentioning it at all. The whisky in its natural state will have a colour as this comes from maturation in oak casks, even from an inacitve or heavily reused cask, as well as what was previously in the cask beforehand. Colour is added for consistency and to make it have an appearance that will reassure the average punter. How much is in this particular whisky is perhaps a little hard to discern, as one would assume that 15 years of exposure to oak would leave a relatively vivid colour, but if it did not contain e150a, they would certainly say

Duty is about £8 a bottle at 40% alcohol. Plus there's 20% VAT

One of the best, I think it’s better than their 18 personally. What’s the saying? Healthandsafety gone mad. Maybe you should....

they doing deals on all their whisky just now ? seen black bottle earlier

What's that got to to with this thread? Start a new one! BTW currently enjoying a drop or 4 of the Bunnahabain 12yo

This is the best deal going in Sainsbury's right now, Bunnahabhain 12 for £28.50!

You're buying the wrong whisky (lol) Avoid the cheap mixers like bells, grants, grouse etc. Aberlour 10 year old would be a good single malt to start on, sip it though - don't drink it like it's a pint, let it dwell in the mouth for a few seconds, appreciate it.

Also the " in every supermarket and behind every bar" 12 year old is usually £25 somewhere , so how this has a RRP that high heaven knows. The 12 is a solid enough buy, I'd personally stick with that over this.

That's a very expensive tin/box!

What is the size of this bottle

totally agree, you're just paying for the packaging with this one and being conned into thinking you're getting a bargain due to overly inflated RRP

Bit of a gimmick from Glenfiddich. Young, chill-filtered, coloured and 40%. Massively over-priced at RRP, even at £35 you'd be better opting for the 15 year old (£32 at Sainsburys and Waitrose atm).

It's an NAS, likely to be 8ish.

There's no age noted on the bottle or presentation tin. Says on the rear that it's a recreation by the master distiller of the first ever straight malt whisky. The whisky that created the single malt category!

Can't find this anywhere in north Tyneside.

Hasn't got great reviews, the £89 price looks way OTT, whilst this is a huge discount it might be about right Glenfiddich The Original (40%, OB 2015)Nose: light, with lots of biscuity notes and nuts. Green apple and green banana up front, as well as pear and roasted malt. Floral grassy touches. Lemon and vanilla. After a while also light toffee. Mouth: smooth, showing a big sugary sweetness with vanilla and cereal cookies. Lots of malty notes. Gentle citrus, almonds and soft pepper. Finish: not too long, with sweet grassy notes and slightly drier oak. A fairly harmless Glenfiddich, very smooth and gentle but don’t expect major complexity or something more exciting than the standard Glenfiddich 12 Year Old. I don’t doubt that it’s true to the profile of the 1963 whisky, but why all this effort to recreate a whisky that’s only ‘okay’ by today’s standards (which are much higher than back then)? Around € 100.

This has an RRP of £85 on their website, Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange both asking for around that price. Now whether its actually worth £37 I couldn't tell you, I haven't drank it myself

anybody know if this is available in Fort William?

Yeah Glenfiddich 12 regularly drops to £25 pretty much everywhere, but it's also one of the best whiskies you can sort of regularly get for £25. Just a great, fruity (apples and pears being a strong tasting note for me) Speyside malt!

Yes. True that. Its a good price if you are looking to buy a good whisky for the holidays.

deleted1351975 Nose: Light and grassy, with barley water, meringue, lemon and vanilla. Dominant cereal notes balanced with unripe banana and pear. Palate: A peppery spice initially, then coconut, custard creams, lime and malt biscuits. Finish: Quite short, with some tropical fruit, cask char and toasted malt. Overall: A little underwhelming, to be honest. It’s an easy drinking whisky but it doesn’t have the depth or complexity I was expecting from a nigh on £85 bottle. I appreciate the youngish liquid in the 1963 Straight Malt may well have tasted similar to that in The Original, but I can’t help feeling a trick was missed here somewhere along the way.
