I've seenm teenagers wearing that same Guns and Roses cross and skulls shirt I had when I was a teenager, but I knwo they don't actually listen to them and bought it at Top Shop or H & M or something. If they listened to the music it would be great but they don't.
I don't see how that stops them being credible. Kurt always lamented how they had become so mainstream. Doubt he would have been pleased about this, but that doesn't make Nirvana not credible.
That's the end of Nirvana as a credible band then. Like when Top Shop and similar sold those Ramones/ Metallica/ AC/DC shirts to people who have never heard them.
