Great bang for you pound. Pretty much flawless AF and VR in Botswana this year and not too heavy or unwieldy.

A constant f5.6 as opposed to the usual f5.6-f6.3 at this range.

Still very good for this focal length. If you're looking at f2.8, or even f4, you'll be looking at spending thousands more.

Was gonna get the Nikon but ended up with Sigma 150-600 lens and can highly recommend it as a cheaper alternative!

I found it even cheaper at 99 delivered at Since they're both grey import stores i went with them :). Ohhh primes, i take it you have sold your family to fund them?. I'm going to see if i can get decent pics with my d3300 before i splash out, it's such a complicated subject!

Nothing wrong with them. The price is whatever it says on their website. (It's some time since I posted this) I'm happy to recommend them. But I warn you that buying lenses is addictive! I'm looking for prime lenses now....

Are these guys legit? Tempted to buy. I imagine delivery costs extra

Here it is for £119 Inc del. I bought my d5300 from them at a very good price. They were nice to deal with. They explained the differences between all the Nikon 55-200's

For some reason I was never notified about your reply. Thanks a lot it's been really helpful, I will have a look at those and try to pick something for him. Thanks a lot:)!

In that case I can suggest a few bodies a D3100, on MPB for £94. This will have good image quality and is probably what the majority of the people in his class are using. But if he decides that he wants to do it further then it is likely that he will swap the body as he will want more features. A D300, £159 on MPB, this will last him a while as the layout is superior to the D3100, is better built and has a great autofocus system. Though if he is new to DSLR,s and doesn't know how about manual modes and how to use them it will confuse and he will not get on with it. The last option is the D90, £159 on MPB, the best all rounder. If it was me and I was choosing for someone who I do not know the ability get the D90, but seriously consider the D300 if he is thinking about perusing further than just a photography class, for example degree level or as career. In terms of lenses at this stage look on eBay for an 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 VR on bid or buy it now for around £40 mark. In regards 50mm let him decide as to whether or not he wants or needs it as only his photography style will be able to dictate that. Hope this helps you out, the world of DSLR's can be very daunting and confusing.

Thanks for all the help so far, I would ideally be looking to spend up to 150 quid on that, but could probably stretch to 200. Don't mind 2nd hand as I am aware I wont get new set at this price point:) Thanks!

Well if you are looking for the absolute cheapest set you will looking at something along the lines of the Nikon D70 or Canon EOS 40D, slightly more expensive then the D70. And with the D70 something like the Nikkor 18-55 F/3.5-5.6, this is the kit that I started out with. Though i would strongly recommend to get a 50mm F/1.8D as well, as this is a lens that will him forever. D70 50mm 18-55mm Obviously the more that you spend the better the kit that you will get, though most beginners will not need anything more than this. If you are looking for new kit you will be spending a lot more but in cases you can loose features, for example the D70 is capable of using much older lenses then the current D3000 series and 5000 series Nikon DSLR. But the image quality is going to be worse. If you tell me your budget I will be able to suggest the best possible kit for your brother!

Hi, I am looking for a dslr for my younger brother for his photography classes at school, i doubt he would need any particularly complex setup, probably a basic dslr for beginners + lens, the cheaper the better.can You recommend some setup to go for please? I have no clue at all about cameras, other than they take photos lol. Thanks for help Mat

It's a Grey Import so not the same deal as posted. Deal posted will come with Nikon UK Warranty and support.

As I can't find a UK registered address fro E-Finity or a VAT number on their website, I presume that it is a grey import. The price above as far as I am aware is for a registered UK supplier. I won't get into discussions on Grey import vs non as it has been gone over many times before all over the web. Yes you can get cheaper via grey import, the question is whether it is appropriate for the individual concerned. For a UK market lens, in my opinion it is a very good price.

Poor show not emailing about cancellation.

Same, checked tracker a couple of days back and it proudly announced the order had been cancelled. Not so much as an email from jessops and my PayPal was still pending. I sent a slightly sarcastic email to them suggesting they ought to consider releasing my PayPal funds and explaining why they cancelled...unsurprisingly I've heard nothing still but pending payment has disappeared from PayPal.

Is it really? Canon has superior build quality to Sony. And all DSLRs are geared up to get the shot; whereas mirrorless cameras just seem to be for those who take a couple of shots at the weekend. You will never see a pro or anyone who is very serious about photography using a Sony. I am not saying that they are bad cameras for the size and portability because I do admire sony; however I don't see the point in sticking a huge L lens on a small body, it just defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Hmm, and there's no "Nikon Europe Service Warranty" document either, only a "Nikon Worldwide Service Warranty". Have I been sold a pup..? Edit: Maybe not, if this answer is correct - just send a copy of the Worldwide warranty instead.

Ah, thanks. :) I wonder if a screenshot will do instead of a scanned print out...

You can go into your order history and print one off. Look at your orders and you'll see an invoice option.

Mine was delivered today, but there's no Amazon invoice/receipt in the box and Nikon require a photocopy of one for the cashback claim. (_;)

I don't think they meant that as a bad thing against this lens, I think they were pointing out that this acts as a 52mm lens on the cheaper DX bodies. So if you want a Nifty fifty for a DX camera, you actually buy the 35mm and not the 50mm, as the 50mm acts as a 75mm. (Something I actually messed up with when I bought my 50mm for my D200 years ago) That's how I read what they put anyway. Of course, I may be wrong. X)

Oh I do like this lens. Convenient, ready-to-wear etc. It's just that I don't know I like it that much. 500 quid for a lens is about my limit, but for a lens with a range I've already got covered...cant bring myself to part with the money!

Must admit I have this lens, a prime lens and a cheaper telephoto lens but to state the obvious it depends on the circumstances in which I'm taking pictures as to what I carry with me/use i.e. if photographing wildlife don't really have time to mess around swopping lenses ;) This particular lens has been very handy at times and haven't regretted buying it...well until today when I could have saved around a £100 as I bought it last year when Nikon had a cashback offer on...can't remember if it was £60 or £70 I got back but would have saved about a £100 if I'd waited...still in saying all that I've had the use of it for a year...
