It was 29.95 a few weeks ago so I am holding out for that price before I buy another.

If you bought it directly from Amazon, speak to customer service via online chat. Depending on who you speak to, they can refund the difference.

I paid full price 2 weeks ago. I am incredibly impressed with it. Just wish I waited, but I didn't know they would reduce it.

Haha my TV is a £99 Aldi 19" that I bought in 2012. Deezer/youtube on Roku are OK for my purposes since I don't use my (ancient) smartphone much and can't be bothered mirroring from a laptop. I just miss the Spotify app - I'm into some obscure stuff that Deezer doesn't find easily. I've got the TV audio outputting to an 80s Technics amp/speakers sitting next to a turntable and stack of vinyl/casettes many times bigger than the TV. I'm happy being a bit of a luddite.

No probs. Maybe keep the Roku for tv and grab something like a Chromecast/ chromecast audio for your music. If you’ve got a modern tv then chances are it’ll automatically swap HDMI inputs when you go to use one or the other. Or of course look at a decent Bluetooth speaker or Sonos Play etc. (If money isn’t so much an issue.)

Cheers for the info. The Spotify app always was a bit rubbish too. I'll stick to the Roku for now.

Personally I already use an Apple TV 4K for most of my music, streaming Deezer a lot of the time. I might occasionally use it on the Roku when I just want a quick bit of “Radio” a such. I can’t say particularly any of the bult-in music apes have been any good across any of the streaming platforms, that’s including even the likes of Google Play Music on the Shield, Amazon Music on the Fire Tv, or Apple Music on the Apple TV 4K. They are just so underwhelming to use compared to using a mobile os music app. Control is just so much more intuitive doing it that way. The closest I’ve ever got using Spotify without direct Airplay was when using Spotify Connect on PS4/Xbox One. Otherwise I’d stick to Airplay or at least Chromecasting for control. Even Youtube can be a better experience for Music than most of the dedicated Music apps out there.

Ethernet? As in wired netowrking????

3rd Gen was a downgrade from this, what makes you think 4th gen will be better?

New model coming out within a few months that should have inbuilt echo and ethernet

2nd gen box is faster and better than the 3rd gen box (has microSD slot, ethernet, usb port). The 3rd gen box sits in between the 2nd gen fire stick and the 2nd gen TV box. If this was £20 cheaper I would vote hot.

I use my current fire HD purely for a game - got the other stuff so it's not a case of either or. I'm not bragging or anything just housebound so like my gadgets. I talk to Alexa more than anyone so this sounds good ;). Might even have more than a one game console. I know it sounds daft but it was an unused present so I picked it up and cracked on. I must say I don't mind ecosystems and don't feel the need to get all Wolfie Smith if I can't side load snoop-on-me anyway Google. Anyhoo, maybe worth checking your emails as there's an Argos in a Sainsbury's near who apparently miss me! And want to give me another fiver off bless them. I miss them too for a fiver... £114.99 -I'm in.

I bought the HD 8 the other day from Argos and so far I love it! I've previously owned the 7" version and it was naff in comparison... as others have said you add Google Play and within minutes you can install tons more apps and others that you might previously have bought such as Moon Reader in my case which I use to read all my books stored in Calibre on my laptop. Bargain, that extra 500mb of memory and the better processor really make a huge difference over the cheaper tablet you just wouldn't believe the difference

Curious what do you think they loc you out of that you can’t sideload

First thing I did, took me less then 10 minutes, works just like a normal android tablet now

The new Fire HD 10 is quite a decent 10" tablet. But the Amazon software (lack of Google store!) is still putting me off. Supposedly, you can install Google Play using a hack - has anybody tried that?

I couldn't get this on eBay, kept giving an error about payment. Spoke to PayPal and they said their security systems identified it as a "risky item" and said if I wanted to buy it I'd have to ask Argos to send me an invoice. I told them to stuff it, reserved them on the Argos website, took a printout in and after a bit of persuading the manager agreed to honour it by reducing the price for one to £20.

Thanks for the clarification. It does seem somewhat odd that there are not more default commands available in the routines options. I assume there is a reason for it, but still. Grrr.

You can do multiple things from one command but only for other smart devices that you have, things that are listed in the Routines section of the app. As tunein radio is a built in function rather than an external smart device it can't be included. However, if for example you had a Harmony remote, hue lights, TP plug. You could ask it, with one command of your choosing, to play Radio 1 (harmony > amp & speakers), turn on the lights (Hue), boil the kettle (TP plug).

Thanks for the reply, I mean being able to do several things at once via a routine. I may have, and think I have, misinterpreted your reply in that you had a routine which allowed you to adjust the thermostat and bang on 5live in one command/routine? Cheers.

Hmm it should play any radio statiin via TuneIn, at least mine did without adding any Alexa skill for it. When you have bluetooth connected as well as wifi, it plays whatever siurce was fed to it last i.e. say you're playing a YouTube song via Bluetooth, and you want to play a radio station and say 'play Magic FM', bluetooth playback stops immediately and it picks up the wifi radio stream. When you say 'Alexa, stop' it reverts back to the bluetooth stream BUT it has no ability to interrupt the Bluetooth source so your YouTube song would have been playing on your phone in the interim. Yiu can also pair/unpair Bluetooth devices via voice commands.

Well the amazon stick gives you what a smart tv has. However you can have live tv, games and other kinds of apps that you would need if you have a tv that is not near an Ariel cable. However as you already have a PS4 and a smart tv and a fire stick there isn’t much point of getting another one. The echo dot is a different story but it depends if you would use it or not. It can be the centre of your house, you can ask it questions, set timers, turn lightbulbs on and off (if you have a smart bulb) and much more. It really just depends if you would use it or not. Seeing as you already have a fire stick there probably isn’t much point in getting this deal and just wait to see if there is a deal with just the echo dot.

I got this with Prime delivery on Amazon for one pound more but only because I can't be bothered to walk a mile from the entrance to the collection desk at my local Tesco to be met by a queue of people doing the lottery. Plus parking and getting back out again as I don't shop there. I go to M&S don't you know.

I've put 1st gen in kids room and 2nd in living room, but I've had them running on 2 tell us side by side and there's no real difference, although I totally reset it every so often All I have on mine is iptv, terrarium, Netflix, Amazon and YouTube (through firefox), and uninstall / disabled everything I can. It runs a lot smoother and quicker without all their bundled crap, especially that stupid Alexa.

Lol, "almost like they want you to use their own vod service". Though strictly speaking, that may not 100% be the case, lol, in a round about kind of way, you may not be as far off the mark as you may think perhaps?. After all (as a good example), Amazon website refuses to sell the Google Chrome Cast upon it ... (because the Chrome Cast directly mirrors similar features as that of what it's own Fire Stick does). It reminds me of certain stories I read about last year also, that went along the lines of this, Apple was disabling the functionality of the Google Chrome Browser on it's iDevices/iProducts, but interestingly enough, the Mozilla Firefox Browser had absolutely no issues running/functioning upon those same said Apple list of products ... (There are no doubt many other examples out there of similar misgivings perhaps?, but those were my 2 notable ones anyway). So, in the grander scheme of things (so to speak), who knows what some of these Industrial Giant's are truly up to?, lol.

I've never tried LiveNetTV before, what is it like? - in relation to other similar App's like Mobdro etc etc, for example?, it's been a while since I used Mobdro (last year sometime), so I'm not sure if/how it's changed since, for a direct line for like comparison on it, etc?). I've tried Terrarium before too, and that's not half bad either (excellent for TV Shows, but dead in the water for Movies though - even though it blatantly has a 'Movie' section within it, looooool). What other one's are out there? (of the same/similar ilk to Mobdro, LiveNetTV, and Terrarium?), thanx.

PM them to me perhaps?, thanx.
