Was very disappointed that this does not have mirroring/casting like the fire stick, Amazon live chat confirmed this :/

That is correct, like virtually all Prime Day deals.

So you have to sign up for prime to get this offer

Only 99p cheaper than Amazon at the moment - would be happy to pay Amazon the 99p extra for them adding Babylon 5 to their streaming content from next month!

Can you stream content to this like a chromecast?

Yeah, the last one I bought was available to c&c, but it didn't give me the option this time. I bought this a couple of days ago when Very sent me a £25 off £50 min spend. They are so much better than the sticks.

Looks like Amazon are price matching Sainsburys and Argos and rightly too since it is an Amazon product! Now selling at £59.99 instead of £69.99

I note this device has 4k hdr whereas the old 4k fire box didn't. Is this a reason to go for the new device over the old one if you want the best 4k content?

Haha guess that 1p makes all the difference (excited) XD (lol)

Ethernet? As in wired netowrking????

3rd Gen was a downgrade from this, what makes you think 4th gen will be better?

New model coming out within a few months that should have inbuilt echo and ethernet

2nd gen box is faster and better than the 3rd gen box (has microSD slot, ethernet, usb port). The 3rd gen box sits in between the 2nd gen fire stick and the 2nd gen TV box. If this was £20 cheaper I would vote hot.

Hahaha 1st April or what

Amazon fire tv 4K at Sainsbury’s for £60
Found 18th MarFound 18th Mar
Last post was deleted. Hope this helps someone

The main drawback for me with this over an android box is that it has the same problem as I have with my earlier Amazon 4K TV box in that there is no SPDIF out, so I can not use it with my projector. Watching content on the TV is fine as I can use the audio out of the TV through my surround sound system but I had to buy an android box with SPDIF out to use when watching on my projector

Stable software that updates without malware. Remote works , interface works and never needs rebooting . I have had gen 1 since launch an it still runs iptv , kodi and terrarium without issues... The only issue you have is that the remote doesnt have enough buttons for IPTV shortcuts

Is this too much an improvement on say £20-30 Android boxes? Can anyone post some indicative comparisons of the pros and cons between the two? Thanks

I thought so too. Never mind! :)

Good price thanks.

Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote + Echo Dot Black / White £58.95 Free C&C @ Tesco Direct Echo Dot Black Link Echo Dot White Link

Well the amazon stick gives you what a smart tv has. However you can have live tv, games and other kinds of apps that you would need if you have a tv that is not near an Ariel cable. However as you already have a PS4 and a smart tv and a fire stick there isn’t much point of getting another one. The echo dot is a different story but it depends if you would use it or not. It can be the centre of your house, you can ask it questions, set timers, turn lightbulbs on and off (if you have a smart bulb) and much more. It really just depends if you would use it or not. Seeing as you already have a fire stick there probably isn’t much point in getting this deal and just wait to see if there is a deal with just the echo dot.

I got this with Prime delivery on Amazon for one pound more but only because I can't be bothered to walk a mile from the entrance to the collection desk at my local Tesco to be met by a queue of people doing the lottery. Plus parking and getting back out again as I don't shop there. I go to M&S don't you know.

I've put 1st gen in kids room and 2nd in living room, but I've had them running on 2 tell us side by side and there's no real difference, although I totally reset it every so often All I have on mine is iptv, terrarium, Netflix, Amazon and YouTube (through firefox), and uninstall / disabled everything I can. It runs a lot smoother and quicker without all their bundled crap, especially that stupid Alexa.

Lol, "almost like they want you to use their own vod service". Though strictly speaking, that may not 100% be the case, lol, in a round about kind of way, you may not be as far off the mark as you may think perhaps?. After all (as a good example), Amazon website refuses to sell the Google Chrome Cast upon it ... (because the Chrome Cast directly mirrors similar features as that of what it's own Fire Stick does). It reminds me of certain stories I read about last year also, that went along the lines of this, Apple was disabling the functionality of the Google Chrome Browser on it's iDevices/iProducts, but interestingly enough, the Mozilla Firefox Browser had absolutely no issues running/functioning upon those same said Apple list of products ... (There are no doubt many other examples out there of similar misgivings perhaps?, but those were my 2 notable ones anyway). So, in the grander scheme of things (so to speak), who knows what some of these Industrial Giant's are truly up to?, lol.

I've never tried LiveNetTV before, what is it like? - in relation to other similar App's like Mobdro etc etc, for example?, it's been a while since I used Mobdro (last year sometime), so I'm not sure if/how it's changed since, for a direct line for like comparison on it, etc?). I've tried Terrarium before too, and that's not half bad either (excellent for TV Shows, but dead in the water for Movies though - even though it blatantly has a 'Movie' section within it, looooool). What other one's are out there? (of the same/similar ilk to Mobdro, LiveNetTV, and Terrarium?), thanx.

PM them to me perhaps?, thanx.

Stuff the amount of ram, its 90KG, my TV cabinet wont support that let alone my HDMI port!

How will people live without the Firestick at all? Or a TV? Come on dude, this is clearly a luxury item so any features missing is a poorer product.

You are making some serious errors. You are quoting the number of REVIEWS for those streaming services on Google Play and not the number of downloads. You are also confusing number of active users with number downloads, they are two very different things. So much for destroying my argument. I have said from the start the decision is an Amazon decision to not include video app casting. You have agreed there are no technical barriers, that means Amazon could add support tomorrow if they really wanted. Your very first words in this thread were "Google are the ones who prevent chromecast support". You know that is patently untrue.

Yeah that’s right. But what I like about iTunes is anything you have already in HD they upgrade to 4K if it’s available apparently.

I don’t have a problem with google. I own a chromecast, my phone is Android, I use their search, my business email is all hosted with them, I have two google homes. I'm as platform agnostic as you can get. I have a problem with the way they are dealing with their 'rivals' though by being anti competitive and hiding behind the ‘don’t be evil' mantra to make people ignore the facts and just assume Google is doing the right thing. Oh and for the record Amazon Music has had 737,298 downloads on google play. Deezer has 1,357,534, Spotify 10,043,618, google play music 3,182,415 (although it’s been installed by default for a while now so that’s lower than it would be). Even Apple Music isn’t that far behind at 201,276 and how many android users would use Apple Music. So that destroys your argument. As does the fact Prime doesn’t even have 100mill users. And I’ve never said they couldn’t technically add it to the android app, that doesn’t mean it’s not google fault though. They took the intentional action to make it impossible for a company going down the route of providing a simple entry into this world for people who get scared off by the greater complexity of the other brands and not having the same trust as they aren’t techie people to be able to add casting without making themselves Google’s bitches and ultimately forcing them to drop FireOS and going to a skinned android core OS with all the extra payments to google that come from that and all the technical issues that also come with it (they would be unable to even at cost be able to produce the hardware at the prices as they would need significantly faster components and memory to account for all the bloat forced on them and anyone who remembers android before the more recent trend for most phones to ship with pretty much core android rather than the customised skins that would cause all sorts of issues) . It was An attempted shakedown by Google and it’s a good thing for us as consumers that Amazon aren’t just rolling over

Evidence of number of downloads is on the Google Play store, go and look if you can bear to use a Google product. Of course, you'll probably say the stats are fake. That obviously does not include any downloads from the Amazon store so the number is actually higher still. So what are the technical reasons casting is not on the Android video app? Not they haven't done it because they don't like this or don't want to do that, just the technical reasons of why they can't do it.

Just been to collect mine on click and collect from Sainsbury's, told no stock therefore we don't have it. i ask what does that mean, I was told, no stock so we don't have any! so if you are making a journey to collect check first, there was no email or phone call, they seem to enjoy wasting people's time
