I've put 1st gen in kids room and 2nd in living room, but I've had them running on 2 tell us side by side and there's no real difference, although I totally reset it every so often

All I have on mine is iptv, terrarium, Netflix, Amazon and YouTube (through firefox), and uninstall / disabled everything I can.

It runs a lot smoother and quicker without all their bundled crap, especially that stupid Alexa.

Lol, "almost like they want you to use their own vod service".

Though strictly speaking, that may not 100% be the case, lol, in a round about kind of way, you may not be as far off the mark as you may think perhaps?.

After all (as a good example), Amazon website refuses to sell the Google Chrome Cast upon it ... (because the Chrome Cast directly mirrors similar features as that of what it's own Fire Stick does).

It reminds me of certain stories I read about last year also, that went along the lines of this, Apple was disabling the functionality of the Google Chrome Browser on it's iDevices/iProducts, but interestingly enough, the Mozilla Firefox Browser had absolutely no issues running/functioning upon those same said Apple list of products ...

(There are no doubt many other examples out there of similar misgivings perhaps?, but those were my 2 notable ones anyway).

So, in the grander scheme of things (so to speak), who knows what some of these Industrial Giant's are truly up to?, lol.

I've never tried LiveNetTV before, what is it like? - in relation to other similar App's like Mobdro etc etc, for example?, it's been a while since I used Mobdro (last year sometime), so I'm not sure if/how it's changed since, for a direct line for like comparison on it, etc?).

I've tried Terrarium before too, and that's not half bad either (excellent for TV Shows, but dead in the water for Movies though - even though it blatantly has a 'Movie' section within it, looooool).

What other one's are out there? (of the same/similar ilk to Mobdro, LiveNetTV, and Terrarium?), thanx.

I've had one of these Fire TV boxes for about six months, just recently …I've had one of these Fire TV boxes for about six months, just recently the remote control has started playing up, sometimes it will work, then other days nothing at all, it will just not do anything. I've replaced the batteries with new ones, watched numerous Youtube videos looking for a fix but without finding a positive result which will fix this intermittent problem, which seems to be quite common. It's very tempremental and you never know it it's going to work or not, I've had to use my Logitech wireless keyboard to overcome the problem when the remote refuses to kick into life. Does anyone have a similar experience with the behaviour of the remote control on the FireTV and does anyone have a fix for this persistant fault? My old Firestick remote control was flawless in performance and is still very reliable.

I had same issue. I wrote to amazon via the contact us explained the disconnect issues and asked if it was a known issue. They wrote back said to order a new one and they'd refund the cost.
Anyone got this and hdhomerun working in DRM channels like bbc1hd? On the mi box it wont play and says audio codecs failed. Shield works fine but i dont want to drop £140+ on another. Thanks

I own a chromecast, my phone is Android, I use their search, my business email is all hosted with them, I have two google homes. I'm as platform agnostic as you can get. I have a problem with the way they are dealing with their 'rivals' though by being anti competitive and hiding behind the ‘don’t be evil' mantra to make people ignore the facts and just assume Google is doing the right thing.Oh and for the record Amazon Music has had 737,298 downloads on google play. Deezer has 1,357,534, Spotify 10,043,618, google play music 3,182,415 (although it’s been installed by default for a while now so that’s lower than it would be). Even Apple Music isn’t that far behind at 201,276 and how many android users would use Apple Music. So that destroys your argument. As does the fact Prime doesn’t even have 100mill users. And I’ve never said they couldn’t technically add it to the android app, that doesn’t mean it’s not google fault though. They took the intentional action to make it impossible for a company going down the route of providing a simple entry into this world for people who get scared off by the greater complexity of the other brands and not having the same trust as they aren’t techie people to be able to add casting without making themselves Google’s bitches and ultimately forcing them to drop FireOS and going to a skinned android core OS with all the extra payments to google that come from that and all the technical issues that also come with it (they would be unable to even at cost be able to produce the hardware at the prices as they would need significantly faster components and memory to account for all the bloat forced on them and anyone who remembers android before the more recent trend for most phones to ship with pretty much core android rather than the customised skins that would cause all sorts of issues) . It was An attempted shakedown by Google and it’s a good thing for us as consumers that Amazon aren’t just rolling over

You are making some serious errors. You are quoting the number of REVIEWS for those streaming services on Google Play and not the number of downloads. You are also confusing number of active users with number downloads, they are two very different things. So much for destroying my argument.

I have said from the start the decision is an Amazon decision to not include video app casting. You have agreed there are no technical barriers, that means Amazon could add support tomorrow if they really wanted. Your very first words in this thread were "Google are the ones who prevent chromecast support". You know that is patently untrue.

Evidence of number of downloads is on the Google Play store, go and look …Evidence of number of downloads is on the Google Play store, go and look if you can bear to use a Google product. Of course, you'll probably say the stats are fake. That obviously does not include any downloads from the Amazon store so the number is actually higher still. So what are the technical reasons casting is not on the Android video app? Not they haven't done it because they don't like this or don't want to do that, just the technical reasons of why they can't do it.

And where is your evidence that there has been 100mill downloads and only …And where is your evidence that there has been 100mill downloads and only 10mill video downloads. Prime only has 80mill subscribers in total in the US and in other countries with Prime adoption has been much lower than the US so the idea 100mill have downloaded the music app seems a little far fetched. There are stats out there for music service usage that show in the UK they are behind the other 3 services from Apple, google and Spotify and that all of them are well behind YouTube for music consumption. And you do realise Amazon's hardware is pretty much sold at cost right? When they discount them it’s a loss leader in the hope to get more people into their eco system. They are a service company and want people to be using their service, they don’t care how. They didn’t even have a FireTV device during the initial stages of not including casting and it’s because they couldn’t add it universally to their apps because of google being complete dicks, dicks that consistently make the streaming world worse for consumers. Again this also includes blocking Apple from 4K YouTube because they won’t use the google developed 4K codec. They have been happy providing others with 4K YT via different codecs but when it comes to Apple or Amazon they go out of their way to be problematic on a number of fronts

Things got pretty ugly and unnecessarily petty. If you asked an Echo device to order a Chromecast, Amazon would automatically put a Fire Stick in your cart instead. In retaliation to Amazon’s moves, Google recently pulled YouTube from the Echo Show and announced plans to remove the app from Fire TV streaming devices as of January 1st. Amazon claims this amounts to “selectively blocking customer access to an open website.”
Been thinking about this more. Google need to make having the Google play store installed and prominent a requirement for Android licensing, that would solve everything. Amazon would then be forced to allow not just Google apps but anybodies apps from the play store, alongside their own store.

Amazon will then be forced to develop their own operating system, which they can do as they please with, rather than trying to monetise the work Google do. They could come to some licence fee arrangement with Google for YouTube access I'm sure.

Just to prove my point, here's an email from them after having to chase it up myself:

I’m so sorry that you have not receive your order. I have had a look into this for you and it does look like the item you have ordered has went out of stock. I’m so sorry you’ve not been updated and have had to chase this up.

Bunch of ***holes.
Ordered mine at 00:05 on the 22nd.. still not arrived

It can do as much or as little as you want.

If planning to buy Amazon devices this would be handy similar price at all major retailers then why not buy from Amazon and get £5 or £10 vouchers Echo £69.99 Echo Dot … Read more
I raised an issue and sent them my receipt for an echo which I purchased why the offer was valid but couldnt upload the receipt after the offer ended. I've just had the £10 gift card which is great.
Just got my code from VoucherCodes and applied it to my amazon account with no problems.

I did buy 3 Echo's so was well above the required spend level but I also used the £50 off code from amazon so got them for just over £53 each and I also got a TP-Link HS100 Wi-Fi Smart Plug for £9.99 in the same order and it worked as I had hoped.

So it looks like as long as you meet the minimum spend you can/could use any combination of promo codes and discounts.

I registered on the 15th and uploaded the invoice from amazon (prior to them shipping anything) on the same day and got the voucher code today (the 22nd).

Likewise I spent £74.95 on Amazon Echo & Plug ...I uploaded Invoice for proof of purchase & received an email yesterday saying that I did not qualify for the £ 10 voucher.

Vouchercodes is def a con...I will also be sending mine back to amazon.

Also raised an issue, this isn't an offer if you can't claim it.
Took the opportunity to ask about the invoices too.

Hello
RE Amazon £5 Voucher When Spending £34.99+ on an Amazon device 15/11/2017

I ordered a device yesterday and was waiting for Amazon to dispatch so I could upload the receipt. Amazon do not issue a receipt until dispatch. They have dispatched today at 15:17.
I am now receiving the message "Sorry, the reward has expired. The window closes in 6 hours after the reward expire".
I am not sure how it would have been possible to achieve this deadline given Amazon's dispatch schedule - and I am on Prime next day delivery.

Can you please do something to rectify this?

Additionally I took part in the Amazon offer and purchased an Echo dot for £34.99 with the addition of a smart plug for £9.99. Unfortunately their invoices pro-rata the Smart plug discount across both devices even though the offer clearly states the discount is for the smart plug. I assume that would be okay if you can sort out the deadline issue above.

Regards

You simply just start the stream and based on how fast your internet is. It will play in 720p or 1080p or 4K. What I normally do is start the stream and then pause it for 2 or 3 minutes and then play it so it plays in 4K from start to finish without buffering.

I mean where available as in on Netflix some content is available in 4k and other stuff isnt , do you have to pay for aditional 4k content , as on netflix it just comes as standard on the premium package

I wanted something that can do 4K and supports HDR and this has not failed me so far. Yes I bought the £13 ethernet adapter making it £3 more than last gen fire tv box. But that £3 extra for HDR was worth it.

Yep got 2 X 1st gen and they are painfully slow after an update to a newer version of Android.
The 2nd gen is hardly snappy, I definitely wouldn't go for a 1st
