Ronseal Decking Stain £8.99 *in store* Home Bargains Darlington
Posted 16 h, 18 m agoPosted 16 h, 18 m agoLocalLocal
Great price for this as it's usually around £20, Sold out online but still plenty of stock in store in Darlington, hade a few shades available

Even the Ronseal Ultimate lasts less than a season, I can't imagine how rubbish this stuff must be.

I agree, barely lasts one season. My experience is with the grey colour.

Terribe product. If you're lucky, lasts one season. Used it several times, regretted it every time. I've learned my lesson with Ronseal products - steer clear!!

always this price and has been posted loads of times but its always good remind people

Always at this price but you would not find this price anywhere else. Been using them for years Can confirm they last multi season Thanks OP good reminder to all. 🙏

Thanks for the info. I would have felt so foolish if I didn't do that. You saved my bacon. Ooh bacon, nice. Anyone know where I can get some cheap bacon?

I use this and I’ve got a tub that is 18 months old and it’s still good. Wipe around the lid seal before resealing and it’ll be good

I use Red Devil One Time Filler, I have never had a tub dry out. My last tub was 2 years old and I finished it off yesterday. It is always the same consistency regardless of age. Give it ago, you might be surprised. It's not like any other filler I have used so as long as the lid is put on correctly it won't dry out. I agree that most ready mixed fillers dry out but not this one, it is sold in litres not kg's as it is that light. And...I never seem to have an old ice-cream or Marg tub when I want to fill a few holes that's why I always end up using a tupaware bowl etc. And I have never seen a warning on a box of filler saying 'only for use by a competent filler person'

More like:- Ready mixed - open the lid, find out that it's all dried out and useless (or on it's way to drying out and too stiff), chuck it in the bin. Your cons, whilst mostly true (half of them are competence related), are hardly significant IMO. If it's really that much inconvenience or hassle, just use an old ice cream or marg tub, mix it outside and then chuck it away afterwards. Will take approximately 1 minute. I guess it comes down to (slight! lol) convenience vs cost. Powder is a lot cheaper and lasts for years if kept dry and you can mix it to suit the job.

I completely disagree!! First you have to find something to mix it in which is usually one of my wife's tupaware bowls, so she isn't usually too impressed. Then you have to find something to mix it with. Tipping the filler usually results in a cloud of dust which has to be cleaned up later. Add water - usually too much so you have to add a bit more filler and then another cloud of dust. Mix it up, usually ends up too stiff, lumpy or sloppy. After filling in a couple of holes you then throw 90% of it away and then you have a bowl that needs to be cleaned.... Ready mixed - open the lid, use what you require and then put the lid back on. I know which one I would prefer to use!

RONSEAL 5 Litre Fence Paint - £3.99 at Poundstrecher
Posted 9th JunPosted 9th Jun
Different colours, all at 3.99

I've found it needs more than one coat to get a decent finish. Cheap deal thoough

Bargain price, always get it from Poundstretcher as places like B&Q are rip-off for same size, I think best I ever saw it in B&Q was £4.99, more usually £8.99. P/Stretcher have plenty of 'Harvest Gold' now which is what I've always use on our fences - hate dark browns and greens. 'H Gold' always seems to make fence look 'newer'. Heat added.

It doesn't really sink in to smooth wood so will wash away quicker

Voted hot

Is this just for fresh saw wood or smooth wood too?

£5.99 for 9l at home bargains / quality save.

Bought some medium oak. Went on fence ok but drys very orange, not oak colour at all. Hoping the sun will dull it. If not I'll have to do it again. :(

i used this on featheredge fencing panels and found no probs using it and fence panels still look good after 12 months,so i assume all the neg reviews are from people using it on sanded wood as you say, must say tho that is defo not one coat just buy a sprayer and apply 2 coats then brush out all the runs and you will get to get a good finish and it works ok for me

Also worth getting the fence sprayer for £20 from Screwfix if you wanna stain your fences in this. Saved me a fair few hours

I find the ready mixed much harder / better than the powdered stuff that turns back into powder when sanding

Bought a tub of this a while back, would not recommend it unless your going to use the whole tub, it cant be stored to use at a later date goes rock solid in the tub and becomes unusable. Have used powdered polyfilla since which can be stored and mixed ready for use whenever needed and cheaper to buy than this cr@p

Oh that double entendre ;)

I agree it's not a long lasting product as you need to re-coat every year to keep the fence looking in reasonable condition. I bought and used this paint a year ago on my rented house fence and have had to re-do it again this year as the fence looked a mess again. I recommend you pay more for a better quality product and maybe you would then get away with only repainting every 3 or 4 years or so ie:- PAYING MORE FOR A BETTER QUALITY PAINT IS MORE COST EFFECTIVE IN THE LONG RUN when you take account of your labour time in having to re-paint every year.

Just curious, but do you have a contract to paint all the fences in your street?

I bought a 9l tub dark oak from home bargain for £5.99 this morning (y)

My experience of it is that you need several coats to last or to give an even coloured coating. I use on a shed and it lasts a couple of years before it starts to flake off a bit. As it dries quickly I suggest applying several coats and wear gloves as it stains skin despite being easy to wash off brushes with just water and soap.

Just bought two tons of this for £3.99 each in Poundstretcher. Reviews are mixed but it's cheap

Ronseal 5L One Coat at Toolstation for £4.88

Looking at Painting the fence this weekend, not a bad buy by the looks of it with 30% off. Loads of offers with the good weather coming!

For what it's worth, 5 litres of Cuprinol Ducksback is £8 in Wilko or 3 for £24 in Homebase over Easter. Possibly 10% cheaper still in B&Q with their Price Match if Wilko stock it within 10 miles

Bought this, three tubs for delivery. Came packed as one and a two. The two pack was leaking and a write off.

no paint peeling of the ones i painted and that was a year ago thats all i can say

I had 17 new fence panels installed and was using Ronseal One Coat to start. I noticed it was watery, but kept brushing it on the first 10 panels. Rain came about a week later and I noticed it didn't repel the water, but allowed it to be drawn into the wood. I decided then to coat the remaining 7 panels with Ducksback. The first rain on these panels, the water was repelled. That remains the case 2 years later, as good as when I first painted them, yet 6 months after the Ronseal was applied, the paint was pealing off.

thanx for the heads up

Ducksback is on offer at Wilkinsons (Wilko) over the Easter bank holiday - £8 for 5 litres. Lowest price I've seen for a few years

I daubed a load of trellis and wooden handrails with Ducksback and was surprised how water repellent it was. Rain just runs off the wood. The biggest issue with using it (for me) was that you must apply multiple coats within a day or so or else the new coat doesn't stick. How repellent is that?? Two years so far and no sign of needing a re-do.

That's my worry. From what I've seen painting them makes them look tattier sooner than if they'd been left. How much better is ducks back? I'm looking for something that'll last years to justify the effort of painting 26 panels :o

This is just a standard price for it. At our builders merchants (Beers Timber and Building Supplies in Liverpool) we charge £2.41 for it.

You would probably end up repainting the panels every year. This stuff just does not last. It looks good after you finish but it peels off. Use Cuprinol Ducksback.

Back on have unexpired your deal

Don't bother unless you want a specific colour. All fences are pre treated and they don't last must longer with regular painting from my experience. Just save your money for replacing the panels eventually. Its a con.

Anyone have a photo the grey colour Cant seem to find any online

That’s why you buy creocote!

Buy a Wagner sprayer best thing I've ever purchased. . Forget the cuprinol version that went in the bin

Can vouch for this but you really need to scrub it in and use a jetwash to clear. Rejuvenated my decking but it took hours and was hard work!

Cheers OP... Good spot
