Owned one of these close to 3 years, been an excellent mower. The multi mulch is a good accessory for this too, I only rarely bother collecting the cut grass now. Good price, hot from me OP (highfive)

I’ve read the reviews - one that is damaged (return it for replacement) and the others talk about spares not being sold by Amazon. Did I miss something?

mine burnt up this week after 4 years.

GrahamFairham

Agree, look I have the British made version, had it for over 5 years, and used it to cut really tall grass. The scoop on side that pulls grass in is a good touch, plus its height adjustable.

No I meant the Mcgregor 1900w, which is 40cm. Previous comment said it was £70 so wondered if it's a regularly discounted product worth waiting for

mudassiraslam

where are you looking at the 40cm one - amazon?

aforumac

Just looking at the 1900w model, the 40cm one. It's currently £130. Does it tend to drop hence you got it for £70?

aforumac

Thanks, will look into it. Was looking at a Rotak 37 on gumtree for £70 just yesterday!

Litherx

Got the 1900W Mcgregor from Argos for £70, boy it is powerful.

Think they're all made in China now. Bought my ex-display 34 model UK made (34R signified Chinese made) a few years ago from Homebase for under £50. Brilliant mower. Mum has this mower and it's OK, not as good as mine (1400w versus 1300w)

Flymows are probably lighter/easier to use. You just don't get such a good finish - like stripes etc. Unless you've got a big lawn then imagine you'd be better off getting one of the smaller mowers like the 34R. If you're set on a bigger one then this looks like a good deal https://www.keengardener.co.uk/bosch-rotak-43-ergoflex-electric-lawnmower.html?utm_source=TradeTracker&utm_medium=316064

Much appreciated.very informative

AMO

Yes, they are good in that they mow the lawn really well and get to the edges very nicely. As a wheeled lawn mower (most Flymos originally didn't have wheels) they made things effortless. However, I have gone through several of them - on my third one - the problem I have is I find that they are really really good to use but I find that they break down more easily - the plastic switches can die - the screws come out (you need to check periodically) - the power/strength of the device doesn't seem as strong so when cutting through longer grass and sometimes a bit more wet it seems to struggle. Overall though, I've been happy enough with them that I've bought them again. My current one is on its last legs though - this time round I might look around more.

I had a Bosch. Purchased as the washing machine from them had been really reliable over the years. Lawnmower stopped working just over a couple of years. Junk.

The wheel retainer bolt came off mine after 5 cuts so I’m not impressed with the quality

Besford

No idea - never had a wheeled Flymo but I can say the hover ones got worse and worse and I gave up on them eventually. A GOOD Bosch is hard to beat - but first you have to identify it. It'll be more than £60 though!

kudos1uk

Wow, you don't say... really, you don't need to pug in a cordless mower when it's in use, you really are a wealth of useful information lol

Zecayne

@kudos1uk "Don't worry you might get it..... eventually." Well this just sums you up entirely. You fail to understand the meaning of cordless and what @Arold is telling you. Let me clarify and maybe then, just maybe, you'll get it. You can mow the lawn, without, a wire. Yes you still plug it in to charge, obviously, but not when USING it. You're just embarrassing yourself now.

kudos1uk

Don't worry you might get it..... eventually. Did you know you have to plug in a mains mower to use it..... shocking but true! Did you know you have to plug in a battery powered mower to recharge the battery.... also shockingly true.

Arold

Plug in to use? Garbage. What have you been smoking? Yes, the batteries will fail, ultimately, but vs. petrol you'll be better off because of the cost of fuel, oil and servicing. Versus a corded mower, sure it will cost more, but most people expect to pay for convenience and, especially in the case of mowers, it's well worth it. I assume you use corded drills and other power tools?

I have this model albeit a year or two old now and I can't fault it in any way

MrBrightside1987

I recently bought a Chinese one from Screwfix, after borrowing a British made one. I was aware of the comments about the different quality, but for me the price was enough to sway me as this is our first year with a lawn so wanted to make sure I'd get regular use out of it before buying a quality cordless one for more money next year. And the £55 I paid was still much cheaper than what we would have paid to a gardener. Now some of the differences below may be because of the difference in model, the UK one I used was a 32R and the Chinese one from Screwfix was a 32ER but I've listed them all below anyway for completeness to give you an idea... - the most noticable are the differences are in the design... - the UK versions have a black part down the top of the mower, whereas the Chinese is all green except the clippings bin which is black - the lever to adjust the cutting height on the UK version ranged from 2-3cm up to 7cm that you could adjust in 1cm increments using a handy red lever on the side of the mower. The Chinese version has the same range but only 3 options (short, medium and long) which you can only adjust by flipping the mower over, pulling out a spring-loaded bar and then moving it into one of the notches - the UK version has a black bar going across about halfway up the handle to give it stronger support, the Chinese version has no such support - maybe some other minor aesthetics - cutting the grass, the UK one I used is a few years old, the Chinese on brand new. Even so, the UK one managed to cut longer grass in a couple of passes quite evenly. The Chinese on the other hand was very uneven in comparison and seemed to miss some bits completely. - the UK one seemed to collect almost all the cut grass with only a few random clumps of grass leftover. The Chinese one was almost the opposite, managed to collect hardly any grass at all and I ended up having to rake the clippings off the lawn. - on the UK one I had to empty the clippings 3 times because of the longer grass, on the Chinese one I emptied it once on similar length grass but that's because it left most of the clippings on the lawn. I know the UK/Chinese debate comes up on all these threads but I now see and understand that they're valid comments. Maybe other brand "Made in China" mowers are better, but in this case the UK Bosch is far superior and worth paying the extra for if you manage to get ahold of and want something that's better quality. However, if you're after just a cheap mower then this is still worth considering as it's probably on par with the others in the price range. Argos, B&M, Toolstation and Wickes all have similar alternatives and I'd just categorise them all as "budget mowers" that give similar performance. If you're expecting this to be better than the others because of the Bosch name then you'll likely be disappointed. We'll be using this for the rest of the year, and then if we keep on top it then we'll get a cordless next year as my biggest gripe with this (no fault of this particular mower) is having to deal with the cable. If that wasn't an issue, then we'd probably keep using this mower until it dies despite it's problems.

Qbazdz

Lots of comments on chinese vs uk/eur ones, but no info to back claims up. Anyone would care to explain? I have a Lidl one that seems to cope but could do with something a bit more robust/easier to use..

Besford

Looks like one of the very poor Chinese made ones. UK/European ones are more expensive for a reason (or several).
