My Vango has the screen and avoids the " Dad I can't go sleep there are bugs in the tent" nightly routine of camping joy. As long as the kids remember to zip it back up! Agree that this is essential feature.

Anyone who knows anything about camping under canvas knows all about the Montana 6 - it's been sold for well over a decade and if you take a look at tent review websites you'll see that more people have reviewed this tent than any other. I can't quite believe that you're asking me to "verify" my statement about such a popular tent (actually I can, seeing as you also think fibreglass poles are "less likely to be damaged than a rigid poled tent"!), but here you go:

Would go 4a air tent & not a steel or fibre glass pole tent..

And your validation for this statement can be verified where?

Hi, just checked the Blacks website and with this being the 2018 model it indicates that all doors are now meshed.

Heat added, looks like a good alternative to the Osprey Farpoint 40 (I posted the recent deal). I have a not sisimilar bag from Eastpak that was my go to bag, before the Osprey, which provided excellent service during nearly 2 weeks in Japan. The Eastpak opened like a clamshell/laptop which the Osprey doesn't which was a plus - not sure if this does? I would say the big plus of the Osprey over bags such as this Vango (and others from Lowe Alpine, Easpak etc) is the shoulder straps are a notch above together with the Osprey warranty.

Well said. Common sense isn't that common these days....... (y)

A £50 sleeping bags is not always better than a cheaper one. it is like saying a £50 Adidas t-shirt is better quality than a £10 unbranded one. If you are is pathetic tent, you may be cold. If you are in a well insulated and erected tent then it is different. It is not just about the sleeping bag. There are other factors, including what you wear when you sleep in the bag. The OP did not state he was going up a mountain and did not have a decent tent. The mention is for DoE. I repeat a £50 sleeping bag is not required for a basic DoE trip. Not one single child at my son's grammar school had such an expensive bag. We were told at the meeting it was not necessary. Ask the school!

I couldn't have put it better myself - though I suspect that he/she is actually just intending to wind people up with their comments. Surely nobody is that clueless... "A £10 bag was fine for my son and his mates on a DofE trip, so nobody should ever need to spend more than £50 on one"! I mean..what??!

You're talking about one specific incident- 3rd-hand experience gained from kids on their first camping trip under the supervision of professionals in a semi-controlled environment- and applying that tiny bit of knowledge to an entire world of locations and situations of which you haven't the faintest idea of what you're talking about because from your own admission you've never done it- which to be honest makes you a total moron. If you carry on dishing out advice like that, at some point someone will get hurt or worse. You remind me of these people who are constantly draining the resources of Mountain Rescue because they got stuck up the side of a mountain without the foggiest idea of what they were doing. I don't think I've ever seen anyone openly admitting to having no knowledge or experience on a subject while simultaneously proclaiming to be an expert on the matter. That really is a new one on me!

It depends how good the tent is as well. It was -5 when mine went and they were not cold in the £10 bag. They also had a mat and wore warm bed clothes. Not one child spent £50 on a sleeping bag. Ask the school what they should buy. We can all afford a £100 bag, but it is not required.

Thanks OP Mine arrived today - got the 300 version - for £16 absolute bargain. The 200 model is currently £18.24 and the 300 £22.62 - so still a bargain.

Lucky it's waterproof. A tent that isn't might prove problematic

Terrible for a festival imo unless your in a small group. 4 or more and you can generally pick up a decent very large 2nd hand tent for £60 between you. With the added benefit of being able to stand up inside, have space for everyone and their gear. Plus if it doesn't survive the weekend who cares, we usually pack it and leave it for the tent charities anyway

i'd send that one back - it's upside down.

I would have agreed until last time I camped - slugs were everywhere in the morning.

Why do you all want a groundsheet in the porch? Not practical at all

Thank you ever so much for that! Really appreciated 😊(highfive)

If it's got a built in groundsheet then a footprint is a great addition, we bought one for our tent - I'm pretty OCD ish when putting the tent away as want it to last, so always used to sponge the underside of the tent to get rid of worm casts etc, before bagging it to store which means waiting a while for it to dry, a footprint allows me to put the tent straight away without having to sponge the underside as we then pack the footprint and wash at home at our leisure ... A cheaper alternative is to purchase a tarpaulin, from Poundland or similar, ensuring it's bigger than the area of your tent and cut to size ... A lot cheaper!!

These are great. Good for camping and festivals.

Nope... I bought it on Ebay a couple of years back. But there's loads of different micro stoves on there for around a fiver. All from China sellers.

Got a link? :D

Yep..... if people dont mind the few weeks wait. Far better off buying the ones on Ebay from China. I bought what i thought would be a £5 generic stove from China on Ebay and when it turned up it was a Gelert Intensity, had a the Gelert case as well. Totally the same as the £20 one in my local outdoors shop. All these stoves are made in China and UK sellers make a big mark up on em.

Wow! I choose the generic stove.Does exactly the same job for half the price.🙈🙉🙊 (embarrassed)

Vango Odyssey Air Beam 8 Person Inflatable Tunnel Tent £389.02 @ Amazon

8 man Vango airbeam tent. Great price for such a large Airbeam tent. Buy now for use next year.

Like you said the loose ground sheet could just as likely refer to the 5 and 6 man tents. My Vango 800 has the central living space sewn in. I've never seen any different in this design where the 2 bedroom spaces are either end? I also own an airgo nimbus 8 which again is the same. Which models of this design are you referring too?

Found this in the questions section on Amazon, although realise that the questions and reviews seem to be the same whether you select the 5, 6 or 8, man version. Q: Does this tent have a 100% sewn in ground sheet? I.e no gaps or flaps. So fig can't escape or wind can blow in. Pictures would be great to see. see less Answer this question A: The inner tent has a sewn in ground sheet but the lounge part does not but it sits on flaps of the tent so that pretty well sealed see less Amazon Customer | 3 weeks ago

I haven't looked but why more likely if the same range? My experience from this style of tent, from other brands, is that the central "living" space has had a "bath tub" separate groundsheet, whilst the bedrooms have them sewn in.

Groundsheet not sewn in are for the 5 and 6 berth tents only. The 8 more than likely does

Doesn't seem to be anything inflatable about the tent in the link apart from the title. Searches on Amazon some times show non-inflatable tents too...check the reviews. I've not seen an Air Beam this large anywhere cheaper. I snapped one up a couple of weeks ago for just over £300 as I didn't think they'd go any cheaper.

The inflatable one uses poles rather than Airbeam, where your tent inflates. The Odyssey 500 with poles, but without the sun canopy (more of a rain canopy?) is £146.67: . The Odyssey 600 is £161.28:

Is it not this one?: £50 cheaper?

Was looking for a decent weekend tent for next year & this seems to fit the bill. Cheers op.

I have the non airbeam version of this tent, the groundsheet isn't sewn in but it works well and the bedrooms do have sewn in groundsheets. If I was after another tent I would buy this

ok, got to test out the 6-man one at the weekend, i loved it! the bedroom was big enough for my massive triple height kingsize airbed, albeit having to position is sideways rather than normal. only issue with this was the person sleeping nearest the back of the tent is really close to touching the side (potentially letting water in) - i was camped alone this time though, so didnt have any issues. putting the tent up was *ridiculously* easy. on my own, i put it up in 7 minutes. most of that was trying to get the pegs into ground full of stones a few inches below the surface. taking it down, even moreso. just press the valve, then attach the pump in deflate mode and suck the last bit of air out. it went from fully standing to bundled up in the boot of my car (it was wet, so didnt pack it in its bag until i got it home to dry it out) in a fraction under 5 minutes! porch-wise, we got 7 adults in camping chairs with a fairly large folding table in the porch comfortably while it was raining i absolutely love this tent, and kinda wish i'd bought one a few years ago instead of going through the hassle of putting up my increasingly saggy pole tent. might even have to try and get in a cheeky camping weekend away before the end of the summer :)

been looking for something to replace my old £30 woolworths closing special 6 man, ordered this to try it camping at indietracks in ripley this weekend :)

its the summer of discount tent

Do theses tents withstand strong winds well? I went on a trip a wile back where the wind was actually pushing the tent onto us.. and ripped the pole off the hooks.. I figure this tent would be better as there would be no chance of poles breaking or ripping off the hooks as the inflatable parts are actually in a sleeve right? Trying to make my mind up whether to get this or get a poled alternative..
