Thanks for the tip, any links to the side porch? (I can google but there may be inside knowledge 😁) thanks Ash

£104.16 - on the way up already !

We have this style of tent and I'm looking to replace it. My main issue is the door on the side. I'd recommend getting a side porch as the inside gets wet around the entrance very easily without one.

Was looking for a family tent, just ordered, thanks OP

It was only cheap for an hour or so so grab this while you can. 500 is a great tent, no reason why 600 wouldnt be. Showing as £101.93 at the moment. Inc del.

The price fluctuates on this frequently.

It's £83.76 now so cheaper than the original post. How low can it go!

walke_mr Has gone lower, the 600 is around the same price as well which would give you even more room

According to this the lowest was £170. Wondering whether to order now or go for the cheaper Odyssey. Although that is now over the £100 mark!

At £85 this one was better value as it was half the price, if they were a similar price I’d go for the Farnham, that has dropped down to the £100 mark and lower in the past so if you’re not in any hurry I’d wait for a deal on that one

Price now £357. Glad I ordered it when I did. Thanks OP.

Thanks OP. After much consideration I just bought the 6 person version of this tent. (I was originally thinking about buying a Berghaus 4XL but even with seasonal discounts this is likely to be around £300 cheaper) There are cheaper ways of getting a footprint (Use tarp) or Carpet (Use Picnic Blanket(s)) but if anyone is interested in getting a Vango footprint and/or carpet for this (6 Person) then the cheapest that I could find are: The Farnham is exclusive to Amazon but appears to be identical in size to the Anteus sold by GoOutdoors ( It also appears that the 6 person Farnham is identical in size to the Avington 600XL, Hayward 600XL and Langley 600XL. Neither the Farnham or Anteus appear on the Matrix of Vango tents here: (BTW. The footprint above also has a groundsheet for the porch area which isn't covered in the Farnham. (I presume the footprint and groudsheet are all in one) I don't expect this to be a problem but on rainy camping outings I expect I might have to fold/roll back the groundsheet or it will lead to rain between the test groundsheet and footprint.)

Stop looking at it then ;) The 5 man tent price is slipping lower though

Price jumped to £203 whilst I was looking at it. Now showing as £209.

Fantastic tent, I know because I own it already. Had one hell of a bad night in France last year with gale force winds and hours of heavy rain and not a drop got into the tent.

may as well just keep waiting until it comes to the price you want to pay, however long that takes, sometimes you just take a punt.

Wow. Gutted I paid £435 for this in the summer. It’s a very good tent. Hot

If your buying for next year, which most people would be, then your better off waiting through the winter and keep an eye out, maybe set up a camelcamel alert, don't need a time machine, normal time will do,ha...That's what Im gonna do anyway

Great price. I paid £10 more for the 5 version early summer - which is a great tent for the money. Definite heat for this.

Great video

Will try this method next time, thanks

alternatively, use the pump you get with it to suck out all the air from the poles. i had issues packing it away at first, but then i figured it out after watching this video (from 1m20) - basically, fold it in strips rather than in half, then half again. ive had the tent just over a year now and love it. its been to a couple of festivals and a couple of camping trips so far and so far it's withstood pretty harsh weather conditions (bad wind and total downpour at shell island a few weeks ago) - if anything, i think its a little noisier in the rain than my old pole tent, but that may just be psychological.

Think I have the same 5 man with the canopy. I fold til have it the width of the bag. Then start to roll only adding pole bag etc towards the end. Then use the blue ties originally included x 2 to hold in place. Then put the bag over the TOP of the rolled tent then roll over bag and tent together and use hands to fill every inch of the bag. Don't zip initially as will risk breaking the zip. Use the bag compression clips x 2 to reduce the size of the tent further and only then zip. We love our tent and has everything (other than built in groundsheet in living area i.e porch, canopy over side door etc and was only about £160.

jonesinamillion: I've got this (well, the 600) and it's a very good tent, bright and airy. Used many times including a violent storm in Cornwall, it didn't budge or leak, rest of the field was strewn with broken tents. Hot. I think this person would tell you not

Omg I almost did exactly that, then I decided paying in 6 months with the argos cc would work better for me, then found out its not in stock anywhere near me either!

My concern is that the open awning is attached to tent so wind might get under it ?

Would the wind get under the awning and blow it away ?

Looks a great price for the quality. Extend it with a side awning too for around £130

Ideal, that’s the kind of info I was after. Thanks a lot for that (y) 🏼

I have a pop top on mine too. I sikaflexed c channel on to the body just outboard of the gutter but it’s hidden when the top is down. Only took about an hour to do and much cheaper than a reimo or equivalent rail.

Thanks, but I have a pop up roof. Looks like kador strip only option but not sure I can be bothered with the faff.

You can often just use long straps that go from the top of the awning all the way over the van to the other side and then peg down that side if you don’t have a rail.

Which? reviewed ten (2017 models) family tents accomodating between 4 and 8 people in April this year. They're all in a £199-350 price bracket. Three were rated Best Buys. The two top Best Buys, Outwell Rockwell 5 and Coleman Rocky Mountain 5 are marked down as being cramped with limited space when accomodating 5 people. The third ranked Best Buy Eurohike Rydal 600 is cramped for 6 people but fine for 5. It's also cheap, easy to put up with 2 people (under 30 mins) and take down again, remained watertight in heavy rain, and stood up effectively in windy conditions, and one of the lightest on test at 16.5kg. Exclusive to Blacks/Millets at £199 (£250 in April). Not quite a Best Buy and £100 more is the Vango Iris 600. Cramped for 6 but good for 5 it took 7 mins more than the Eurohike to set up and the poles were difficult to bend and locate, however it was fast to take down. It let in a tiny amount of water in heavy rain and wasn't quite as good in windy conditions.

Eurohike over a Vango? I think not!

My Vango has the screen and avoids the " Dad I can't go sleep there are bugs in the tent" nightly routine of camping joy. As long as the kids remember to zip it back up! Agree that this is essential feature.

Anyone who knows anything about camping under canvas knows all about the Montana 6 - it's been sold for well over a decade and if you take a look at tent review websites you'll see that more people have reviewed this tent than any other. I can't quite believe that you're asking me to "verify" my statement about such a popular tent (actually I can, seeing as you also think fibreglass poles are "less likely to be damaged than a rigid poled tent"!), but here you go:

Would go 4a air tent & not a steel or fibre glass pole tent..

And your validation for this statement can be verified where?

Hi, just checked the Blacks website and with this being the 2018 model it indicates that all doors are now meshed.

Heat added, looks like a good alternative to the Osprey Farpoint 40 (I posted the recent deal). I have a not sisimilar bag from Eastpak that was my go to bag, before the Osprey, which provided excellent service during nearly 2 weeks in Japan. The Eastpak opened like a clamshell/laptop which the Osprey doesn't which was a plus - not sure if this does? I would say the big plus of the Osprey over bags such as this Vango (and others from Lowe Alpine, Easpak etc) is the shoulder straps are a notch above together with the Osprey warranty.

Great for festivals, no waiting for buses or taxis and you get to store all your beer as well as crash within walking distance at the end of the day. Good for kids too as they love the adventure!

Horses for courses.... we love it (especially the kids). When we're on a campsite, we generally kick back with a few beers and get a barbecue on the go whilst the kids make friends and play outdoor games, etc... None of that is really possible in a hotel room. Hotels bore me to tears

Well said. Common sense isn't that common these days....... (y)

A £50 sleeping bags is not always better than a cheaper one. it is like saying a £50 Adidas t-shirt is better quality than a £10 unbranded one. If you are is pathetic tent, you may be cold. If you are in a well insulated and erected tent then it is different. It is not just about the sleeping bag. There are other factors, including what you wear when you sleep in the bag. The OP did not state he was going up a mountain and did not have a decent tent. The mention is for DoE. I repeat a £50 sleeping bag is not required for a basic DoE trip. Not one single child at my son's grammar school had such an expensive bag. We were told at the meeting it was not necessary. Ask the school!

I couldn't have put it better myself - though I suspect that he/she is actually just intending to wind people up with their comments. Surely nobody is that clueless... "A £10 bag was fine for my son and his mates on a DofE trip, so nobody should ever need to spend more than £50 on one"! I mean..what??!

You're talking about one specific incident- 3rd-hand experience gained from kids on their first camping trip under the supervision of professionals in a semi-controlled environment- and applying that tiny bit of knowledge to an entire world of locations and situations of which you haven't the faintest idea of what you're talking about because from your own admission you've never done it- which to be honest makes you a total moron. If you carry on dishing out advice like that, at some point someone will get hurt or worse. You remind me of these people who are constantly draining the resources of Mountain Rescue because they got stuck up the side of a mountain without the foggiest idea of what they were doing. I don't think I've ever seen anyone openly admitting to having no knowledge or experience on a subject while simultaneously proclaiming to be an expert on the matter. That really is a new one on me!

It depends how good the tent is as well. It was -5 when mine went and they were not cold in the £10 bag. They also had a mat and wore warm bed clothes. Not one child spent £50 on a sleeping bag. Ask the school what they should buy. We can all afford a £100 bag, but it is not required.

Terrible for a festival imo unless your in a small group. 4 or more and you can generally pick up a decent very large 2nd hand tent for £60 between you. With the added benefit of being able to stand up inside, have space for everyone and their gear. Why do you all want a groundsheet in the porch? Not practical at all

Thank you ever so much for that! Really appreciated 😊(highfive)

If it's got a built in groundsheet then a footprint is a great addition, we bought one for our tent - I'm pretty OCD ish when putting the tent away as want it to last, so always used to sponge the underside of the tent to get rid of worm casts etc, before bagging it to store which means waiting a while for it to dry, a footprint allows me to put the tent straight away without having to sponge the underside as we then pack the footprint and wash at home at our leisure ... A cheaper alternative is to purchase a tarpaulin, from Poundland or similar, ensuring it's bigger than the area of your tent and cut to size ... A lot cheaper!!
