What is Home From Home?

With Home From Home you can use your phone in our 48 European Home From Home destinations just like you do at home. You can use your minutes, texts and data as normal, and if you run out, you just pay our standard rates as you would at home. All our customers can get Home From Home, on both pay monthly and pay as you go.

Is it any different on pay as you go?

No, it’s just the same as using your phone in the UK. When you’re in Home From Home destinations, your minutes, texts and data will come from your bundles, otherwise they’ll come off your balance (including your free credit from Triple Credit).

Where can I find out more while I'm away?

We’ll send you a welcome text whenever you arrive in a new country. This will include a link to the Home From Home page on our website. It’ll also remind you that you can call 280 free any time while you’re away for info.

Highly recommended rocket packs 50gb for £15 or 100gb for £20 with Clubcard, best payg sims for internet allowance while abroad. It's been faultless in half of Europe travels in constant 5G in many areas. Good news.

I wish Voxi had that - I'm capped at 20gb whilst roaming and have to pay £8 for a pass. Not leaving them because I'm still on unlimited data for £10 since... I think 2020? (edited)

How is this a deal, surely it should be in discussions?

The OP is a mod so the rules are different ... Happens all the time. I'm pretty sure this reply will get deleted too.

Just as a head up for anyone that need roaming anytime soon but their current provider doesn't include it (probably EE):

    If you phone allows eSim:

Search in HUKD any Lyca offers. Get you 1 pound or less Sim. When it arrives, buy a new free e sim through their website. Activate physical sim with cheap plan, then on the Account Management on Lyca you will be able to transfer that Lyca physical sim to your also new and just "bought" esim.

You will have your main number and use Lyca for Roaming.

This option or indeed any eSIM. I tried to mention this earlier today but it got modded because I mentioned the providers, but there are loads, you can set them up in a few minutes for non EU countries ad-hoc, and more importantly you're not deciding a 12/24 month contract because of a 2 week holiday

Asda network don't charge for listed destinations on website.

    Moved off three to asda
    Best decision

Another Br**it benefit. Being charged hundreds to roam by our our big mobile providers to coincide with their 15% in contract price increases.

I remember seeing 2 MEPs going toe to toe over free roaming when they did the deal - one pointed out that the person who could not afford to travel was now going to subsidise travel for those who could afford to travel, including MEPs who travel to Brussels a lot!

Doesn't sound so great when put like that? (Said as someone who has made good use of it, but saw domestic deals, such as Giffgaff, o2 & Three pay & go, useful to the poorest in society, those who can't afford to travel, get much more expensive!)

An acquired consumer’s right in the EU, a concession in the UK

The companies certainly took back control

Freezing cold. Vote with your wallet and join someone who has roaming, and is looking like they might keep it. In this market the only way to show it is important is not to support the profiteering scalpers trying to charge for it.
  8. sowotsdis's avatar
But they will be charging 10% plus 4.5% on existing customers contracts
    RarrKind's avatar
I thought tesco doesn't do an mid price contract increase
  9. andrewworrall1's avatar
Meanwhile with Voxi I've gotta pay £8 next week for roaming 😞
    Grazz0r's avatar
Better to switch to a network that cares...

O2 is the worst when it comes to signal
    jnm21's avatar
It probably is now 3 have changed to the great signal carp data party trick.

I can't think of many reasons for anyone to join Tesco Mobile to be honest. Given there are cheaper MNVO alternatives this temporary reprieve from them introducing roaming charges doesn't look like a gamechanger.

If they really "know how helpful it is to stay connected when abroad" they'd commit to no roaming charges ever

The only reason to be with Tesco Mobile was the facility to redeem double clubcard points (which ended in May last year) . This kind of made it half price if you were generating lots of points. Without that - there really is very little point to Tesco Mobile - much better deals and better customer service available elsewhere.
  12. Grazz0r's avatar
While good news for those on this network, this isn't a deal as such so cold from me.

I think Tesco are, and Asda will sell their mobile business. There is no logical sense for them to be in the telecoms market now. Watch this space.
    jamie15's avatar
Asda Mobile closing wouldn't be a surprise, but Tesco Mobile is one of the largest MVNOs in the UK and 50% owned by VMO2. I don't see the brand ending, perhaps the physical stores could close, or Tesco could sell their stake and allow VMO2 to keep operating the brand.
  14. Professor_Chaos's avatar
Lebara EU roaming is included . Cheap and cheerful and great signal (Voda)
  15. Meltigemini's avatar
Or just move to O2. Same network but no roaming and loads of other bonuses.
  16. deleted531767's avatar
This hints to me that O2 are likely to drop free roaming next year too.

Luckily by then we will have sold our house and moved to the EU and have an EU mobile provider.
    t3r4's avatar
Perhaps but I honestly hope it's the opposite and they've realised roaming isn't the cash cow they thought, and also the cost to them hasn't increased as feared due to the lack of the EU wholesale cap (Apparently Vodafone didn't make nearly as much bringing back roaming fees as they expected to).

We'll see though. Once O2 proper falls I think all the others will ...
  17. niccih789's avatar
    Virgin still do
  18. NewForestMonkeyBrains's avatar
Brilliant news for Tesco mobile customers. I hope, but doubt EE will do the same.
O2 the carrier for them, isn’t too special in my rural area, otherwise I’d be happy to change when my contract runs out. Good post and thanks
    Baddan95's avatar
Didn't realise EE didn't do free Roaming anymore tbf
  19. majorwedgy666's avatar
O2 shocking I my area otherwise be tempted just to give others kick up the @£@
  20. jinkssick's avatar
or use Feel At Home from 3 payg sims. £3 for 1GB or 16GB for £8. 1 month validity.

Turkey is never on it, which is always disappointing
    harrythefish's avatar
How I learned to love eSIMs and stopped worrying about roaming.

Cold - no Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
  23. joe140's avatar
Who would be the best value network to join? Everyone seems to be raising prices astronomically.
    jnm21's avatar
Lebara - don't touch the 12m deals with the Vodafone + Three merger on the cards - the VM + o2 one has seen o2 fall from mediocrity to rivalling 3 as the worst network.
  24. greenlump's avatar
Voted cold, I was a Tesco Mobile customer for many years but the continuing will we/won't we charge for roaming led me to leave.
  25. Atasas's avatar
Interesting, my todays quarrel is to get a PSYG SIM to transfer my number to, so I wouldn't lose my fancy (spare) number to.
Does Tesco PAYG keep on credit for few months, unlike O2, that used up my few pounds for accidental data turning on...?
    Thanks!
