Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Bringing the Viking Invasion of England to Life
Valhalla is the 12th instalment and the twenty-second release in the Assassin's Creed series, following closely on the heels of Assassin's Creed Origins (2017) and Assassin's Creed Odyssey released in 2018. While much of the gameplay remains the same, there are differences. Players range much further afield and the game is more customisable. The main plot involves Eivor, a fearless Viking raider, finding himself (or herself) in the middle of a battle between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order. A little dose of reality meets a healthy dose of make-believe.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla was released on 10th November 2020 and is compatible with Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Stadia. Two days later it was released for the PS5. The game spent two and a half years in development, mainly at Ubisoft Montreal. Although COVID-19 caused some development issues, many Ubisoft staff were able to continue working on it from home and Assassin's Creed Valhalla was ready for its published release date.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - Do the Critics Like it?
Assassin's Creed Valhalla received mainly favourable reviews from the critics. GamesRadar+ praises its realistic storyline, graphics and depth of play. Stuff feels that while the map can be overwhelming and learning how to use the weapons skilfully takes time overall the game is engaging. It says that with a playtime of well over 65 hours this game is good value for money. The pageantry and storyline are praised by IGN but this reviewer felt that there should be more opportunities for customisation and the bugs need to be ironed out. All reviewers felt that for players familiar with the Assassin's Creed franchise, learning the game shouldn't be a problem but for players new to the games, it can take some time to find your way around this Viking world.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Merchandise
The most exciting merchandise news to accompany Assassin's Creed Valhalla is that Ubisoft has teamed up with Reebok. The result is a shoe collection that any Viking warrior would have been proud of. Club Revenge Shoes feature a silhouette of the twin battle axe symbol while the Classic Leather Legacy has an embossed raven symbol on the heel. The raven had deep symbolic meaning for the Vikings. Zig Kinetica shoes feature the Synin symbol. Synin is the raven that helps Eivor on his or her journey. Other Assassin's Creek Valhalla merchandise includes:
Drink a toast to Eivor in a hand-painted resin goblet.
This picture of a moody Eivor comes with a 25mm black wood frame fronted by shatter-proof styrene. Other prints are also available.
This optical illusion LED light features the Assassin's Creed logo which appears to be disappearing off into infinity. It's powered by battery or USB cable, is 25cm in height and can be freestanding or wall-mounted.
Keep hydrated while playing by sipping from a stainless steel 590ml water bottle. Reusable, leakproof, lightweight and finished with an AC Valhalla print.
Keep warm while playing in this unisex hoodie. Gear is hidden among its graphic print while the soft fleece lining ensures it is truly comfortable.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla: FAQs
While previous Assasin's Creed games have been multiplayer, Ubisoft has taken a different route with this one and, apart from one element, it is a single-player game. The only multiplayer section is Jomsviking Recruitment. Once you've built your barracks you can recruit players from other major towns. Your own Jomsviking can also be recruited by them. If this happens, you collect silver as a reward. Having extra mercenaries are handy when you go on raids.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is already available for the PS5. A PS5 version was launched two days after the original release date in November 2020.
Yes. AC Valhalla is compatible with the PS4.
AC Valhalla is big - 50.01 GB but small compared to some recent releases. For example, Final Fantasy VII Remake (April 2020) is 100 GB and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a whopping 175 GB.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a violent game and has a UK 18+ adults-only rating.

Who is Assassin's Creed Valhalla aimed at?
Like other new releases in 2020 such as Cyberpunk 2077 (December), Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a first-person RPG game. If you're familiar with the AC franchise and have played Origins and Odyssey, you'll have no trouble familiarising yourself with this game but if you are a new AC player, it may take you a while to find your way around this complex world. You will certainly need to set aside a couple of hours to do so. AC Valhalla is compatible with most gaming consoles as well as PCs and the affordable cost of the Standard Edition puts it within the price range of most game players. With 65+ hours of playtime, it certainly offers value for money. This is quite a brutal game with realistic fight scenes so it carries a UK adults-only rating of 18+.
