Nice find @klm232 - thanks for taking time to share :)
Audiophiles won't say yes to beats (lol) Maybe yes to Sony & Bose
Believe me, Beats isn't an audiophile brand. If you're serious about music, start with something like the Philips Fidelio X2HR or Audio Technica M40X, or as someone has already commented, the venerable Sennheiser HD600. Your ears will thank you. If you want that extra 10% and can stretch a lot further, start saving and work your way up to an Audeze.
I dont really get what your saying, beats aside as generally they are seen as poor value are you asking if more expensive items can actually be better quality? the answer is an obvious yes.
The audiophiles will absolutely say NO. The best headphones generally have a flat sound to them that reproduce music the way it was actually mixed. Beats by their nature over emphasise bass and you end up with a muddy lower mid range. I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 600's (admittedly they are open back so not suitable for outside the house) which I got refurbished for a similar price to this deal but they're by far the best sounding headphones I've ever owned. I wouldn't touch Beats with a bargepole and to answer your question, yes you're paying for a name and the marketing that has gone behind it, just like airpods.
