I used to keep Bonsai trees. Don't buy this junk even at a fiver. Best thing is to buy a Chinese Elm from a dealer and keep it outside. It prolongs their lifespan. Most die eventually it's just their karma.

DJSyko

That's all they are, they make for good starter bonsai trees as they are relatively easy to keep alive. There is no specific tree for bonsai, pretty much any tree can be used as one.

I just buy a normal size plant and stand it far away .. Less hassle same effect

I wanted to grow a Bonsai Tree and bought this kit, not one thing grew, as other have said buy an established plant.

Torchwood

These will take years to grow into something that resembles a bonsai tree. Better off buying a more mature tree such as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Bonsai-Plants/Chinese-Bonsai-10years-Oriental-Bonsai2u/B01N8YLLUF/ Remember, they need to be watered every day, sometimes more in the summer, so probably not good for kids unless they're very dedicated or an adult can take over when interest wanes.

money_saving_mamma

Great find

Roger_Irrelevant

Just buy a book and some tree seeds on eBay. Note There's no such thing as a "Bonsai Tree" so don't go thinking you just plant it then in a few years you have a small woody tree 🌲 🌲. (y)

That is shocking. Amazon has been becoming the new EBay. Don't know what sh*t will turn up. I am hoping to revive the plant by taking care. Anyone have any instructions on how to take care of these poor plants?

catwoodley83

Ordered two, only one arrived! The one that did arrive was filthy, very neglected and looked like it was a previous customers that been returned. Have contacted amazon for a refund (mad)

jaykaygeetoo

Exactly the same experience londonlad19. I wasn't hoping for miracles, but I was very disappointed for what we paid. Fiver at the most is what it is worth. 1. Not more than 7 cm tall/wide 2. Soil is completely dry and all over the box 3. Most of the leaves are yellow. Anyone had a different delivery to londonlad19 and me?

londonlad19

Wouldn't bother, the one I ordered for a gift came today and it looks terrible. It's been trimmed within an inch of its life and soil is dry, leaves are turning yellow!

Dekard97

Not quite officer, a serial killer must have at least 3 victims - or are you suggesting I've murdered another innocent miniature tree? :/

Bonzman

We have five Acres and found them easy to grow except the one called butterfly but with a little TLC and not to much sun it's now thriving!

mute777

They are actually 20-30cm and look really healthy. Some of them are slow growing.

cannotthinkofone

Not sure I'd say they're a nightmare, but I'd certainly recommend buying a larger specimen. I love my Japanese Maples, but like many others I'm no expert. Larger specimens I've bought certainly have a better shape to those I've grown from small myself.

gdale1

Noticed that on their website they are advertised at £2.97 so checked in store and although priced up at £3.47 they honoured the online price, hope this helps someone.

Sadly when seen in the flesh they don't look much like bonsai, just overgrown little trees. Maybe people have had second thoughts.

thriftybugger

Shocking that people are raving so much about this deal online and when I went to lidl this morning the stock has hardly shifted.

Kulaak

Just noticed my mistake lol! However that would be a quick way to remove a load of unwanted foliage :D

Had a couple of boxes in Chelmsford. About 3 or 4 different types. All overgrown but healthy. Need quite some attention to achieve a Bonsai looking tree. Will be taking my snipers to mine later.

That is one aspect of it, there are various varieties (not the ones in this deal) that are bred to produce midget trees and to survive in hardy environments with very little 'resources' (i.e. grow with short roots and small leaves), thus stunting its own growth to survive. Although, they are more expensive, but well worth pursuing if you are serious about collecting bonsai.

Meathotukdeals

That is about true bonsai practice. These may not be what I would call true bonsai with all that medium.

Meathotukdeals

Well they are grown in a deficient environment to keep their growth in check. This means they have little around their roots and they can dry out easily.

Daves_mate

mussa hava shtrong root!!!

Got me a bonsai tree yesterday. Im happy with it. :-)

trixabel

Bonsai trees need a LOT of tlc. Don't even bother considering getting one unless you or person you are buying for is willing to take the task on. Research is key.

xstrio

some people keep trees inside, trees prefer it outside, also if the leaves all fall off don`t give up they may grow back

engladesh

Don't buy. Mine lasted few weeks before it died, started losing colour in the leaves then slowly started falling off even though i used water then bonsai feed. But it did look nice when it was healthy

shanebowler

Bought one of these and they die really quickly even if you look after them

These are still available, always a good stock too. I've bought two, both are Carmonas (Fuiken Tea). Advice is to check the soil isn't too dry and there are no white spots on the soil either - this would require treatment of the soil or repotting.

Craig101

Picked one up in tunbridge wells, the water they were all soaking in smelled a little off when I picked it up but the plants looked healthy enough. Thanks OP :)
