Exactly and when they say estimate i think that's just covering themselves in case something goes wrong which in my case it never has. Amazon know the duty/tax rules for each country and the fees for different products as it can vary by item type. Amazon know what they are shipping, how its going to be delivered, who is going to deliver it and where its being shipped too (they are one of the largest logistics and fulfilment companies in the world) so their tax/duties fee 'estimate' is always bang on in all the cases i have had or been aware of. There are no additional duties to be paid in the price quoted above.
You don't pay any further taxes. From Amazon US: About Import Fees DepositAmazon Global and Amazon Global Store offer customers customs duties, taxes and fees ("Import Fees") estimation during checkout and customs clearance on your behalf for certain eligible countries. When you buy products sold and shipped from outside your country, you or the recipient are responsible for paying import taxes and duties based on the laws of the country into which the products are being delivered. With your authorisation, Amazon will estimate the Import Fees Deposit from you. The carrier or another agent will then use this to pay the Import Fees on your behalf (or the recipient's behalf) to the appropriate customs and tax authorities of the destination country. The Import Fees Deposit is an estimation of the taxes and duties that may apply and isn't an actual calculation of the taxes and duties. Customs regulations and tax rates applicable to certain goods may change between the order date and the date of entry. In addition, classification of goods in various countries and regions may be different. If the actual Import Fees are less than the deposit amount collected by Amazon on your behalf, you'll automatically be refunded the difference to the payment method you used for the order. You'll receive a notification e-mail to confirm the amount of the refund. The refund process takes up to 60 days from the dispatch date. For items sold by Amazon EU Sarl or Amazon Export Sales, LLC (Amazon US), you won't be charged any additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit amount we estimated. For items sold by other Marketplace Sellers, please check the applicable Seller's policies.
you have already paid the local (when i say local i mean local to the country the goods are being shipped too not the country of origin) taxes with amazon including UK vat, UK excise duty etc - they collect this from you at the time of purchase and use it to pay all import and local taxes to the country the goods are being shipped too. They know what the item they are shipping is and the know where its going so they know in advance all the VAT/Excise and any other local costs and they are added to the purchase price but they show these as a separate charge at checkout which is not optional (in the case of the watch its around £50 to cover all this). Have you ever actually bought anything from amazon US? i'm guessing not - or perhaps you could elaborate on what the other local taxes might be? as i have never had an issue with Amazon US shipments to the UK having additional taxes, as there are none, and i purchase from the regularly. Amazon are unusual in this respect as most other companies selling from abroad don't include taxes, import duties etc and you need to pay them when the goods are received. You are right that goods are subject to local taxes, duties etc but in this case they are paid at source when the item is purchased.
not so when buying form outside the UK, not with any seller, once it hits the UK border you are subject to "local" taxes and "charges"....run over the the gov.uk website its in black and white mate
incorrect, with amazon you pay the duties at the time of purchase. They are shown at the checkout stage so there is never any additional duties to pay from amazon US. You will not get a letter from TNT or anyone else as amazon logistics handle the shipping and they have already charged you up front all the customs, tax and shipping costs. Youir right others its a gamble like creation watches as they don't include the customs tax in their price so you may see additional charges from other providers but never from amazon, you cannot avoid paying the tax's up front.
