Exactly and when they say estimate i think that's just covering themselves in case something goes wrong which in my case it never has. Amazon know the duty/tax rules for each country and the fees for different products as it can vary by item type. Amazon know what they are shipping, how its going to be delivered, who is going to deliver it and where its being shipped too (they are one of the largest logistics and fulfilment companies in the world) so their tax/duties fee 'estimate' is always bang on in all the cases i have had or been aware of. There are no additional duties to be paid in the price quoted above.

mikeyfive

You don't pay any further taxes. From Amazon US: About Import Fees DepositAmazon Global and Amazon Global Store offer customers customs duties, taxes and fees ("Import Fees") estimation during checkout and customs clearance on your behalf for certain eligible countries. When you buy products sold and shipped from outside your country, you or the recipient are responsible for paying import taxes and duties based on the laws of the country into which the products are being delivered. With your authorisation, Amazon will estimate the Import Fees Deposit from you. The carrier or another agent will then use this to pay the Import Fees on your behalf (or the recipient's behalf) to the appropriate customs and tax authorities of the destination country. The Import Fees Deposit is an estimation of the taxes and duties that may apply and isn't an actual calculation of the taxes and duties. Customs regulations and tax rates applicable to certain goods may change between the order date and the date of entry. In addition, classification of goods in various countries and regions may be different. If the actual Import Fees are less than the deposit amount collected by Amazon on your behalf, you'll automatically be refunded the difference to the payment method you used for the order. You'll receive a notification e-mail to confirm the amount of the refund. The refund process takes up to 60 days from the dispatch date. For items sold by Amazon EU Sarl or Amazon Export Sales, LLC (Amazon US), you won't be charged any additional fees if the actual Import Fees exceed the Import Fees Deposit amount we estimated. For items sold by other Marketplace Sellers, please check the applicable Seller's policies.

yoshi

you have already paid the local (when i say local i mean local to the country the goods are being shipped too not the country of origin) taxes with amazon including UK vat, UK excise duty etc - they collect this from you at the time of purchase and use it to pay all import and local taxes to the country the goods are being shipped too. They know what the item they are shipping is and the know where its going so they know in advance all the VAT/Excise and any other local costs and they are added to the purchase price but they show these as a separate charge at checkout which is not optional (in the case of the watch its around £50 to cover all this). Have you ever actually bought anything from amazon US? i'm guessing not - or perhaps you could elaborate on what the other local taxes might be? as i have never had an issue with Amazon US shipments to the UK having additional taxes, as there are none, and i purchase from the regularly. Amazon are unusual in this respect as most other companies selling from abroad don't include taxes, import duties etc and you need to pay them when the goods are received. You are right that goods are subject to local taxes, duties etc but in this case they are paid at source when the item is purchased.

philjstephenson

not so when buying form outside the UK, not with any seller, once it hits the UK border you are subject to "local" taxes and "charges"....run over the the gov.uk website its in black and white mate

yoshi

incorrect, with amazon you pay the duties at the time of purchase. They are shown at the checkout stage so there is never any additional duties to pay from amazon US. You will not get a letter from TNT or anyone else as amazon logistics handle the shipping and they have already charged you up front all the customs, tax and shipping costs. Youir right others its a gamble like creation watches as they don't include the customs tax in their price so you may see additional charges from other providers but never from amazon, you cannot avoid paying the tax's up front.

My watch is a dupe of the ubiquitous ladies' Michael Kors watches :) and I was referring to the colours of the dial/numbers/hands being the same - rendering it unreadable in low light - not about the style of my Caravelle watch. The same issue will more than likely also affect this Bulova watch. Only on HUKD would you attract a comment that misses the point, and also includes a veiled insult (skeptical)

Baldricky

It sounds like a design fault as I can't imagine anyone wanting to wear that watch in daylight, bright or otherwise.

Blaggamuffin

Tremendous watch, tremendous price.

Zuulan

I have this too and it came from Watches2U. I found it cheaper at Argos a few days later but Watches2U weren't interested in refunding the difference and wanted £6 if I was to return my watch to them for a refund.

Qué? (shock)

fran1o86

It's not a IV it's a IX half cropped by the chronograph. What worries me more is that everything on this watch is silver. I already struggle to read the time on the image, I can't imagine how it's like on a sunny day.

IWantDiscountPlase

Would you rather not have a tag heuer carrera on sale? Or a BREITLING?

IWantDiscountPlase

It's a design point. The type font has to stay the same size. The Chrono dial is in front. It is deliberate and a common design approach... Hence X looks like like a v I don't like this watch. Rose gold marine star is way better (got one) and the lunar watch

IWantDiscountPlase

Lol the X is half cut, so looks like a V..

If you wear 2 can you go to 600m?

mikeyfive

I really like this design and decided to order two from the Argos Outlet. Unfortunately, both the watches were anything but new with tags, they were both marked 'opened and inspected' one had no seal on the back, the other had a seal but was marked exp. 03/17 (presumably for the battery) and was scratched on the back cover. Neither had tags. The chronograph reset button on one of the watches didn't work either. Pretty poor all round, tbh. Returned them both.

dwor

Hi @mann242, I've been quoted about £70 from high street shops, who - if they know what they're doing - will send the watch away to get the re-seal and testing done properly. Please note that I said in my original comment "you might be looking at £70+". Like you, I know a few local boutiques who can handle most of my watch service needs, but others might just pop in somewhere at lunchtime and receive an unpleasant shock! I'm only trying to highlight two things: (1) Bulova high-accuracy quartz movements munch through batteries, unlike your Casio F91-Ws, etc., and (2) getting those dead batteries changed properly costs more than you might expect. Ernest Jones and others will probably quote you £70 or more (most of the cost of a new watch!). Hopefully this is useful information for non-enthusiasts thinking of this watch as a present for themselves or others. Again, I'm not saying don't buy it - just be aware. I returned a Lobster and a Snorkel for exactly the same reason - changing batteries on Bulova's dive watches is an expensive and unwelcome faff (especially since nobody is really going to dive to 300m anyway, so you're creating an unnecessary headache in the first place!). Cheers.

Enet

:{ :)

mann242

£70 to replace a battery and seal not sure where your going but a battery and seal change for my Omega Seamaster with a pressure test is only £35 from a qualified Horologist and you can go cheaper if you choose somewhere like Timpsons. And btw the ebay post says 'Water Resistance Rating:Not Water Resistant' on the item specifics - Ha Ha

And yours would be a really adult watch, I suppose. Now we're getting to it ... you're itching to tell us all...so you can harvest that prestige. I work with a lot of people who are company owners and millionaires. I'm not. And there's one thing I've learned is that there are always people with better stuff. For them, a £20k Rolex is nothing. Patek Phillipe and other boutique Swiss or German brands are their entry point. But without exception, none of those people feel compelled to brag about it. Chatting freely about your collection is fine and framed correctly I'd be genuinely interested in what you have as I have a love of all watches. My favourite watches are not my most expensive, or even best looking.

sean8566

I was of two minds as to whether to buy this. I am not really a watch person. This was only the second watches I have bought in the last two decades. The previous purchase was a vibrating digital watch. I am pleased though that I did. The time-piece is beautiful. The strap is also classy. Unfortunately, the strap and the time-piece do not look right together. I am not sure what I will do about this long-term, this is though not one of life's big problems.

Just sayin' cos lots of HUKDers have said the same about that small blue tool. Obviously it's not a lot of money wasted if you wish to give it a go, but I found it useless. As for the watch adjustment video clip, I have a few bookmarked. I've edited the post and added a more appropriate video - obviously I posted the wrong one - oops (I tried to adjust my Caravelle myself, but with the £1.59 tool - as mentioned).

LionelRichieFan

I have that exact blue watch resizer and it works perfectly fine, I have resized everything from my daily seiko, to family members omega, to my girlfriends rotary. Sure it isn't the best, but it is safe enough to know you won't easily damage the watch. You can do it with a pin and a hammer, but one slip and you have a nasty gash in your bracelet. Also that video is the wrong one for this type of watch, this watch has a push pin design, so this video is how to resize *this* watch, also happens to be using the tool I posted earlier, and that is the only tool you need, no screwdriver or hammer etc.

I would certainly bet that it's the same movement (like for like, or chrono for chrono). Looks like standard market price for this is about £100 and for that price you'd be lucky to get a Swiss quartz movement for example, like a Ronda. Just send the watch back if you're not happy mate. Save your money, add say £20 a month to it, and get a decent watch when you're ready. In the meantime if you really need a watch, just get a cheap but decent Casio or a Seiko. By the way, I have a bulova chrono dress watch and it's actually decent quality even if I don't ever wear it.

mr_hercules

Glycine as well. Taken over by Invicta recently if I remember rightly.

Jabaltariq

I don't know what say guys!? I've gone and bought one of these and on closer inspection it feels exactly like the 2 watches my son bought for around £10. The weight and feel of it is almost identical to the £7 watch with the bracelet. The movement, when you adjust the watch feels the same as both of them. I haven't tried opening the watch but I feel pretty confident in saying this, the movement in this watch is the same as in the £7 and £1.99 watches. If anyone has this watch, the tools, the know-how and the willingness to open it up, Please let us know what you find?
