You could always still use this with a couple of powerline adapters? This is how I made them work in other rooms usually with better broadband performance than I would get over WiFi too!

Other than the Now TV Smart box which isn't really anywhere near as good you don't get any other options that would do the job other than subscription based offerings like a Sky Q Mini box, or a Virgin Tivo V6 Box

UI for Now TV isn't as good. And they really try to push you into using their services. Last time I looked at the smart box it didn't even have a proper TV Guide for Freeview!

I have the FVP-5000T. It's quite good but the software is quite buggy, for example:- Sometimes when I press pause and then unpause it subtitles are then displayed even though they are set to off and the only way to get rid of them them is to turn the subtitles on and then off again. It's quite an annoying 'feature'.

I bought this on release day from Humax for considerably more than this about £200 from memory and its pants, Humax dropped features from it with updates, originally it upscaled to 4k but that disappeared, the wifi in its is pretty much useless if placed in a cabinet and drops out constantly have to use tplink plugs just to get it to work, everything else works fine in my house and I'm on bts highest broadband package, its very slow to remote presses, very slow especially if using any of the aps / catch up services when you click on the guide takes a while to boot up the app, just not a fun user experience especially if used to sky or fire tv / nowtv etc

Humax have been constantly launching updates in the hope of fixing this box, if you had one for a while they even emailed all customers promising a fantastic update to the user interface which didn't really fix it

Really couldn't recommend it

I have two of these. They're OK. I have got used to them and I have saved a fortune since not having Sky. The worst thing is the amount of time they take to come on. I feel that Humax are still investing in them as there have been a few updates in the year I have had them.

change the eco setting or standby mode...on my box slightly different model it then starts up much quicker..
I have an HDR 1000S, but stopped using it when a common problem of the internal HDD not being recognised surfaced. I immediately went out and bought a Zgemma H2S (and added Wooshbuild with a Sky Q-lookalike skin) which I much prefer, though it is a bit technical to set up (Wooshbuild makes it a lot easier). Love that the Zgemma has an excellent Web interface and that you can indeed copy recorded HD programmes off it (a terrible, terrible restriction of all Freeview/Freesat recorders). Also relieved that it has no internal hard drive - just slap a decent capacity external USB stick/drive on it and away you go - if that goes wrong, just swap in a fresh stick/drive.

You can get the BT branded version of the Humax DTR-T2100 for amazing prices on eBay, news ones usually sell for under £100 and pre-owned ones for around £50-60.

The common misconception is, even though it is branded BT, you don't need to be a BT Internet user. You just won't be able to access the BT TV services, but the recording function and on-demand players all work a dream.

Here for example is a new on eBay for £75...

Great price for both items, this allows the Main box live and recordings can be viewed in multiply locations.
Unfortunately, and unusually for Humax, the FVP4000T has been problematic since its first release:

https://myhumax.org/forum/forum/fvp-4000t-1

There have been goodness knows how many firmware releases to try to sort the problems out, but every time one issue is fixed, another one pops up - random reboots at present.

Check out the Amazon reviews. This model should never have been released on the market. Theoretically, it's brilliant - but only when it chooses to work.
