Just an update. I've had a pig of a time unlocking this bad boy. Vodafone responded great and all unlock codes didn't work. I contacted them, again no dramas, told me they would get in touch with Sony. More codes, didn't work. I've re contacted, yet more codes and a phone number to call if it doesn't work. The codes and phone number don't work. Miffed
Agreed, I need a point and shoot camera that just works. I don't have time or inclination to adjust ISO, WB, metering, etc. when snapping. Nor do I see the point in having to edit photos in a 3rd part app like LR to get an acceptable image in 2021, especially after spending £800-£1000 on an Xperia
If you edit your photos in something like lightroom, the xperia's do pull back in all fairness, but the pixel is better out of camera and still beats the edited pictures of the xperias. The actual hardware of the pixel though is awful, the sony's blow it away as it's the same sensor as the pixel 2, but the software photography of the pixel just does cream the xperia's. If you put something like gCam on the xperia phones, they would cream the pixel due to their more modern sensors though, so really it depends on how much work your willing to put in to the camera as the xperia can be very good.
If you say so
Yeah, the pixel 5 steam rolls any xperia......

I got the code wrong once so got my wife to go over it instead, but I have unlocked many Vodafone phones and this seller was very reliable, you still have 4 attempts so try your original code, did you give the original imei correctly check that to
The one in the link above. The instructions on failure are to take a video of the whole process so sounds like will have to do that, though if it doesn't work again I'm down to 3 unlock attempts It's possible I got the code wrong but didn't want to use another attempt if it was wasted due to 30 days
Thats 2 from same seller try them
Try this seller I have used him to unlock 9 phones which were all locked on Vodafone, the codes I got from Vodafone didn't work but this sellers always worked for me. ebay.co.uk/itm/122445519485 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONY-XPERIA-5-XPERIA-1-MARK-2-XPERIA-10-MARK-2-2020-VODAFONE-UK-UNLOCK-CODE-/122531736960?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

This or the pixel 4a? Really hard to decide between... Im leaning towards pixel, only advantage Sony seems to have is SD slot and slightly bigger screen.
Isn't this the regular price? I've had one eye on these for a while and have some lingering doubts over the battery size. Anyway, it's been £319 or £329 in most stores whenever I've checked over the last few months.
I have a pixel 3 and Xperia 1 and got my mum a Xperia 10 Sony is second in terms the android experience compared to pixel almost the same just few sony tweeks
Got one for my mum on sky contact decent solid phone, with nice oled screen and waterproof is unheard of at this price, although the Xperia 10 mark 3 will probably have snapdragon 750 when comes out.

Sadly I am expecting to pick this up for 400 by November (y) , through the o2 refresh deal (embarrassed)
It's top midrange phone, not everything going to be to notch, otherwise you wouldn't have top end flagship,or budget range. This has its strengths in the screen, it's oled 21.9 ratio and IP 67 waterproof body there isn't any other phone at this price point with those outstanding features
I'm not sure why they couldn't just build a near top spec Sony. They make the image sensor for other manufacturers.
Yeah there is a slight shutter lag, but greeting better with a firmware update.
Shutter lag on this device.

I haven't used a custom ROM for around 8 years or so. I may look at it but I'd need to ensure all my secure apps work on a custom ROM. I'll have a look and see what they've achieved so far.
My sincere apologies. I didn't read your original message as if to say you were already with EE. Your use of the word transfer should've been my clue. I thought you were told by EE or the 3rd party that you couldn't come over to EE from some other network without going with EE direct. I understand now. I use a Realme phone and while I'm okay with it, Oppo and their sister brands typically have a good deal of support in the modding community over at XDA, if you are okay with custom ROMs?
There's no way if you're with EE directly that you can port your number via a third party. Even the third party sellers explain this on their sites. So I couldn't use mobiles direct or other such sellers. I did research it and EE told me straight it's not possible and so did the 3rd parties. The only way around is to port the number to another SIM on another network, sign up with the 3rd party and give them the number on the new network and they'll port it back to EE. I really couldn't be bothered and if something went wrong I would be totally screwed without my number as it's linked to so many services. EE don't offer high end Sony phones I don't know why, but they just don't. So I ended up with the best OPPO they do at a decent discount, coming from a Pixel though the OPPO has fantastic hardware and rubbish software, I can't go in to all the details but ColorOS is dreadful. This phone is massively gimped by the OS. Some of the decisions in the design of the OS are mind boggling insanely stupid. It has a ridiculously good screen though, really excellent audio and the camera has better detail and versatility than any Pixel phone. ColorOS though, is there a worse Android version currently? If so I'd hate to see it.
My wife took out a SIMO deal on EE in 2019 with Affordable Mobiles and we PAC'd her number over... Might be a new policy?
I originally wanted the Xperia 1 II, but EE decided they weren't going to offer it, only 3rd parties selling it on EE and you can't transfer your number with a third party on EE :( The Xperia 5 II is right up my street, so I'd ditch the Oppo for an Xperia 5 II, no doubt Sony will have improved the camera firmware by then too.

To be honest older android phones with older OS are still safe, if you download official apps from playstore you be OK, install anti virus I prefer kaspersky paid version, and you won't have any problems. I have old xz1 lying around and still getting security updates, Sony do support there devices for 3 years security updates
Well yeah obviously. That's the way opinions work- pretty much by definition.
I think that’s what might be called, your personal case.
Not something I'd even remotely risk given how much sensitive (personal, banking etc.) info is on my phone.

Yeah, most online retailers are out of stock. Some have been OOS for quite a while.
This keeps selling out, my mate brought this 3 weeks ago and Evan then it was showing 8 in stock
This phone was orderable with a 1-2 month delivery time. Now it’s temporarily out of stock. What’s the difference I wonder...
Yeah it's not always about chipset, this Sony with 665 procceessor will be just as fast on performance then your snapdragon 700 series Chinese phones, Sony are stock android and have better ram management, its also shipping with gorilla glass 6 and waterproof and dustproof body, and also a 21.9 screen with a narrow width. There lot on offer quality not quantity
Sony go very cheap used. Was tempted with a good condition 5 for 189 recently on here.

Got this to replace my Redmi Note 5 and not impressed yet. Battery low at the end of the day - Note would last two. Phone has weird lag to that I've seen mentioned in reviews. Can't see any way it's better than the Note and kind of wishing I'd got a newer Chinese phone instead. Not sure whether to sell phone and unopened headphones or stick. Was already on Virgin sim only so this only costs me another fiver a month.
Thanks. If you ever happen to get one of the film-type protectors (ie not the tempered glass type) I'd be interested to know where you get it from. Seem to be not many around!
I didn't no, just the usual bit of film that came on the screen
Out of interest, did you get a screen protector for this?

@MrSwitch Many thanks!
If you're a general light user, the 665 is perfect for you, it isn't a bad chip at all, just not good enough for me and my needs.
Was just looking at an Xperia 10 II and your comment above is putting me off. How much slower is the 665? I wouldn't use the phone for gaming but if there's a noticeable difference browsing, opening apps, or processing photos then I'd have to look elsewhere.
How’s the fingerprint sensor? Any problems?

Closest i can get is the 19:9 screen ratio on the great value Moto G7 Play for £99 which has the Snapdragon 632 but less RAM. Maybe a consideration next to this deal. Or maybe not :D :( https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sim-free-motorola-g7-play-32gb-mobile-phone-indigo-3419312
Well we are until January technically. Then it all goes to pot!
If there accessible there will be third partys selling them for dirt cheap, check out eBay on phones from 2008-2014
Yeah right, no other phone anywhere this price has a 21:9 ratio screen.
We're not in the EU anymore mate. We'll end up with glued in batteries like the US.
It's been good so far, although this was for my other half. I have an Xperia XZ3 and I'm more than happy with that, but it was (at the time I bought it) their flagship model. As it's another Android device, she has been getting along fine with it. You can never tell how the battery is performing, as she definitiely suffers from FOMO and the screen is constantly lit all evening. I think she's getting nearly 2 days out of a charge, so I would think that it's doing well. One point to note is that it feels like a thin phone and I would recommend actually going to a shop and feeling it in your hand, as it's noticably thinner to hold and probably suits smaller hands, rather than baseball mitts :) That's what we did before buying and it seems to have worked out fine.
Heat added for the explaination. Love to know how you're getting on with it as very tempted .
If you manage to find an Xperia 1 at (effectively) £8.50/month please let me know - I'll probably have 3 ;) A £250(ish) versus £800(ish) handset does tend to be a bit cheaper :) The same company are doing the Xperia 1 at £29.50 (effective) over 24 months and there's also the £42 Quidco that should be available - this is still cheaper than an outright purchase and it comes with loads of bundled use. My Quidco-linked purchase has tracked, so let's see if that goes through.
If it was a Sony Xperia 1 I might be tempted. But not this phone.
